I Just Woke Up And I Don't Know Who I Am - Chap 4
Hello. You all don’t know me, but I know you. It’s Parker. Rylan is incapacitated for now (it’s a long story that will be detailed later in the post). She shared the Reddit account information with me and I will admit I am shit at operating this website. Like needing a space between paragraphs to actually register as a space? Boy did I fuck that up when I first tried to post here.
She had been writing this for a while. So, here’s her documentation of what’s been happening.
I am sorry it’s been a while. I know last post I said I would try and not have a long gap between posts. But the gods have said “fuck you Rylan” and here I am three weeks later.
Anyways, I have several updates.
1- I have a discord server up now for helping me or you know just chatting
2- I have been contacted by someone who knows more about my situation than I do and am expecting a call later this week
3- Parker and I have been researching our asses off and discussing ways to kill the creature.
(That’s gone about as well as one could imagine. Because neither of us know what the fuck we are doing)
Also hello if you are just now finding this here are the links to the previous parts:
Tuesday October 13th
So in an attempt to get more answers I went to the Paranormal Research Club.
I waited till after the meeting.
They really had to wait till fucking 10pm to have their meeting and end their meeting at 11pm. So I had Parker with me.
The club president was an androgynous person named Chris.
They looked up at me as I entered. And I was self aware of how I was clutching Parker’s arm like she was my girlfriend I was nervously introducing to my parents.
“Hey my name is Rylan Sharpe and this is my friend Parker. I was wondering what you all know about demons.” I said.
Chris looked at me and chuckled. They tapped their chin.
“Well I think I’ve had a demon visit me in my sleep and it’s been rough.” I had practiced this because I don’t think this club knows about the creature I’m dealing with. “And also do you know of any spirit or something that could, say, cause memory loss?”
“Ah. That’s…” Chris said, trailing off. “I’m not the person for that. Sasha!” They said. A tall blond guy walked over. He had a beard and wore a beanie.
“These lovely ladies want to know about demons and how to deal with them. Also want to know if they can cause memory loss.”
“Ah. Well. A good start is always holy water, salt, and crucifixes.” He said. “Sage also works. As for memory loss, it only happens when you’ve been possessed, think Voldemort possessing Ginny Weasley.”
I was wondering where I would get this stuff before Parker said,
“My grandma’s religious we can get crosses from her.”
“Okay.” I said. “Is there a way to permanently get rid of one?”
“Hmm.” Sasha stroked his beard. “I mean yeah but like nothing you can do unless you’re a professional. Most you can do on your own is make sure it can’t touch you.”
Frustrated but at least a little more knowledgeable, I smiled at him.
“Thank you for your time.”
“Yeah! No problem! If you ladies want we always are willing to have new members who have experiences with the paranormal!” Chris waved.
I walked out with Parker.
“I doubt most of that would work against this fuck.” I said bitterly as the building door slammed shut.
“Yep. But it was worth a try right?” She said, squeezing my hand softly.
“Yeah.” I squeezed her hand in return.
Friday October 16th
I had a lot of work the past few days. Then I went to Lowe’s looking for sage in the flower section. I also bought a lighter cause that’s what people in movies do.
Walked in front of a church that was directly across from campus, thinking about asking for holy water. Eventually decided against it. Anxiety took over.
As I was walking around, I realized I was relying on pop culture to save me.
I didn’t know what the fuck I was doing. I rubbed my temples.
Monday October 19th
I was contacted over the weekend by a woman who had information on what I was dealing with. She was apparently much more useful to me than a college library on the occult and knowledge of the occult and demons and ghosts and whatever paranormal shit I’m dealing with. And also a practicing witch.
And so today I had a phone call with her.
For anonymity’s sake. I’ll call her Dr. Fenn
Below is the transcript of our conversation.
(A woman with a light Southern drawl to her voice speaks)
This is Dr. Fenn. I am calling you with regards to the situation with the creature you find yourself in.
Yes. What do you know?
More than you.
Yeah no shit.
(Sigh) I can tell you it’s name for one. And—
Won’t that like make it stronger?
(Short pause, annoyed) Not necessarily. It’s not that type of demon or being.
It probably has a more ancient name or a name that aptly describes it. But we call it Der Albtraum. The Nightmare. Because it is often associated with sleep paraly–
Germany always gets to name these things the fuck is up with that?
I will simply pretend I didn’t hear that.
Sorry… humor is a coping mechanism.
(Heavy exhale through nose, she is clearly annoyed with me)
I am a professional Miss Sharpe.
I know. I’m sorry. Uh. Continue.
(Takes a deep breath, faint noise of what I assume are glasses pushed up on her nose)
Okay. Well. Der Albtraum through all the information I have gathered is a creature that stalks it’s prey for anywhere between 2-4 weeks, depending on the prey’s lifestyle and how it lives we can—
Kinda insensitive to call people who suffer from this creature prey and refer to them as it
Miss Sharpe I am reading my notes. Let me explain to you what you need to know to minimize your struggles or we can end the call here.
(In normal speaking tone)
Now it is very dependent on the prey’s lifestyle. If a person is surrounded by people every day it will take longer to strike, however the more isolated the prey the more likely it will be attacked sooner. The attack results in a memory wipe and a scar on the back of the neck.
[I reached to the base of my neck and lightly traced the scar back there]
At that point the creature will attack its prey after it is sure it is in a state where it would be easy to make it disappear. This is a time that can vary from prey to prey.
It’s been almost a month since I’ve woken up.
It might take years sometimes
So Der Albtraum… Can I kill it?
Oh no. I don’t think a human can do anything more than maybe moderately injure it.
So no asshole with a gun tried to blow it’s head off?
Maybe they did. But you know it’s powers well.
Yeah. Well what the fuck can I do about it?
I can send you a protection charm and cast a protection spell. Might help some.
Yes. Isn’t that better than doing something that won’t help at all?
Okay you need my address?
That would be very helpful
END OF TRANSCRIPT
Y’all ain’t getting my address. Even if it’s just my college dorm.
I don’t know how long the mail will take to deliver whatever charms Dr. Fenn sent me.
Thursday October 22nd
Got a notification a package has arrived for me.
I went to the commons and picked up the package. It was smaller than I thought. It was one of those envelope ones. I opened it as I walked and it was a star in a circle on a chain. And a letter.
“Isn’t this what cults in movies use to like curse people?” I muttered.
I read the letter which was in neat loopy cursive.
I know you are likely to think of pop culture this is a pentacle which is used as protection. It is imbued with a protection spell.
It should keep you safe if you have it with you at all times.
PhD in Demonology and the Occult
I put it on, annoyed that she called me out like that.
“This better fucking do something.” I returned to my dorm.
Friday October 23rd
I’ve been wearing the necklace. Not much has happened. Maybe the spell and the protection on the necklace have been working. And also we have crosses now. Two for each of us.
Parker made up some excuse about being a part of a Christian club here and us needing them for a club activity.
I’ve had one on me at all times, and a backup in my dorm in case I somehow fucking broke it.
And maybe all this stuff was working.
Sunday October 25th
It was late and I was regrettably out of my dorm room. I did have Parker with me. We had just walked a drunk friend to their dorm from a party, it was around 1am.
As we were headed back to our dorm, I heard clicking of something behind us as it was getting closer and closer.
Maybe I had forgotten about Der Albtraum briefly but I briefly considered it was a girl in high heels walking back from a party.
Then I felt the freeze. My first thought was FUCK! and the proceeding thought was THIS NECKLACE DOESNT WORK!
“Rylan what the fuck?!” Parker yelled, she evidently had the ability to move still as she moved towards me. I guess it could only control one person’s movement at a time.
“It’s the creature!” I said. “Remember? I told you it could do this!”
”You didn’t miss me?” Der Albtraum crooned.
“No I didn’t. Haven’t really had a chance.” I wished I could move out of the position I was locked in. I might not have done the best job describing it before. You know when your leg falls asleep or is numb and like you try to move it but you can’t feel anything? It’s like that with the entire body. Not like The Force Awakens when Kylo Ren freezes Poe and Rey in place and they’re still somewhat twitching.
”Unfortunate.” It moved right past me. ”Now sit back while I kill your friend.” My blood ran cold, I wish I had any movement in this state but I of course didn’t.
“Parker! It’s coming for you! Run!” I yelled.
She started to sprint away but I should have known it would probably use it’s power on her too.
But as it did and Parker was frozen mid run, I realized the only thing keeping me in place now was fear.
And so I did something incredibly stupid.
I ran and jumped on Der Albtraum’s back. It twisted in confusion, which hurt because the spines or whatever the correct terminology for whatever is on it’s back were as I was laying on top of them. Apparently this hadn’t happened before. Or it hadn’t counted on me being this big of a dumbass.
I grabbed onto its horns in an attempt to control its movement. Like Ratatouille. It thrashed trying to shake me off and made a snarling noise.
Parker started sprinting away as I guess I had broken it’s focus on her. However with its focus now on me it used it’s superhuman strength to throw me off and I hit the pavement.
To anyone who might have been watching that must have been weird. Probably for Parker too. A girl floating in the air seemingly grabbing something.
Then again, it was dark. So no one might have noticed that much detail. And also 1am, the people who would notice would probably be drunk.
Der Albtraum dug it’s claws into my skin as it grabbed me.
I screamed and kicked my legs in hopes of striking it. It only dug it’s claws deeper.
”You are ruining my fun!” It hissed.
“That’s a damn shame. Would love to do it more.” I choked out, tears in my eyes from the pain. Snark is not a good way to respond to an entity of this type apparently. Maybe Father Thomas who told Rylan and Shane in Buzzfeed Unsolved was right about baiting the spirits and demons.
It threw me again and I hit a light post. I felt something snap and I screamed. I think it was in my ribs. I also felt short of breath suddenly. It was on my left side.
I saw something, in the distance. The blue light system my college has. If I press that button a police officer will find me in 60 seconds. I just needed to buy myself time. And so I struggled to my feet and moved as quickly as I could towards the blue light.
The creature got down on all fours and bounded after me. It was much faster than I was but it was still toying with me. It wanted to give me hope and snatch it away.
I spun on my heels and stuck my room key between my knuckles and ran towards it.
Der Albtraum seemed confused, in those moments I punched it in the throat with my key in hand and it made a noise like hissing gas and swiped me across the chest with it’s claws. I stumbled backwards and gritted my teeth before returning to my sprint. It was shocked and that gave me the time I needed.
I reached the blue light and slammed the button.
I turned around and leaned against the pole.
Both of us were more damaged than we thought we’d be going into this.
It stared at me, one clawed hand at it’s throat, a dark substance trickling down. It was seething with rage, its chest rising and falling quickly.
I could see the blue and red lights approaching from down the street. I hadn’t been counting the seconds but I guess enough time had passed.
“Ha!” I wheezed, sliding down the pole. Probably the only time to feel relieved about seeing cops.
”You will not be so lucky next time.” It snarled. And it vanished.
I laughed to myself as I tried to stem the blood flow of the wounds.
The police car stopped and a police woman stepped out and rushed over to me.
“Ma’am! Ma’am! Are you alright?”
“Can you explain what happened?”
“May—“ I felt myself slip and everything went dark.
Thursday October 29th
Well! I’m not dead! I am obviously recovering. I have not yet died to the creature. It’s been a rough few days. I had to have my wounds bandaged and a tube stuck on my left side of my chest because not only did a rib break but it punctured my lung! It fortunately didn’t collapse but holy shit! Apparently it was real fucking bad and adrenaline kept me going the moments immediately after.
It fucking sucked a lot, though I did get out of classes for a good while.
In the scuffle I realized I probably hadn’t used whatever defenses I was given against teh creature to their best capacity.
I did have to give a story about a drunk attacker and had to make up how I got the wounds I did. I said it was a glove with knives, yes like Freddy Krueger. I also told them I couldn’t describe him really well as it was dark but he was big wearing a hoodie. That seemed to convince them somewhat.
It was rough, the first two days in the hospital. Lots of fading in and out and pain. Not to mention the medical bill I would have. Hopefully University Insurance will cover it. I mean I got injured on their campus and they probably don’t want to be in the news for this, so maybe medical bills wouldn’t suck.
It’s Parker again. Rylan told me all what happened to her after I ran away in the hospital. I typed it up.
And it does seem the university is willing to shunt most of her bill as a trans woman being attacked on campus and being sent to the hospital is not great for a university who totes an accepting climate.
She got released from the hospital yesterday in the late afternoon but is mostly just resting in bed. A nice break from everything. Though I think she’s enjoying having me write everything she needs down and doing things for her. It’s kind of cute.
Hopefully she’ll be back to typing again soon. For now this is Parker signing off for Rylan.
