Anika watched out the window, the bars had been removed almost two months ago now. He figured she wouldn’t try to escape, she was two weeks away from having the baby. She felt kicking, holding her hands over her stomach both hands were kicked. She grinned. “Good, you have to be strong. Stronger then your mommy..” She said softly. She knew she made a mistake. If she would have been stronger she could have left, she could have saved her children.
Carter was already almost one now, a few months away. He was crawling, to everyone surprise, he had already seen more then enough murders. He had cried for the first few, but as he continued to watch and be present for them the fear in his eyes began to be replaced with emotionlessness just like the other babies. Max and Lia celebrated their 17th birthdays and as an early present were allowed to fill out a paper saying what they were looking for in their future spouses. She was worried that meant they were going to be allowed them sooner.
She had been there for over a year now, the idea of escaping was a fleeting chance. She felt more kicking and then hands around her waist, she turned with a jump. “Jace yo-“
She stepped back quickly almost stumbling against the wall, it wasn’t Jace. “Who..who are you?” She asked, she had never seen this person before. Carter was cooing from the crib.
“Im here to help you.” He whispered. “The women you alerted at the store, she wont stop speaking about you, said there was a terrified little pregnant blonde in our store. I followed the people who came to town, they traded cars half way here, which is when i knew something was seriously wrong.”
Her eyes were wide, she needed to be helped, but what if this was a trick? What if this boy was sent here to scare her into submission, her head was spinning. She was insane now, she was going crazy here. The idea of freedom had died long ago.
“Let me help you.” He said, he leaned closer to her trying to grab her wrist. “Please.”
“Are you real?” She asked, running her small hands over his shoulder. “If you really are here to help me how do I know?”
“I…I have no way to prove to you other then the fact I will take you from this place.”
“Does anyone know you came here?”
“No, nobody.” He replied. She rolled her eyes, he was a goner, and she wasn’t going to be saved. She felt her stomach lurch, her baby kicking again hard. “How many are you having?”
“Wha- oh..I don’t know. One I think, but maybe….two..oh god if there are two in there….” he smirked.
“I want to help you.” He said, she grabbed Carter quickly and followed him slowly. She still was unsure if she was to trust him. They made their way down the stairs when she heard Jace’s father, she dragged him into a closet that was hidden behind a tapestry. There were bloody knives and weapons scattered in boxes, their crimes in a box. “Whos that?”
“My hus- the man who got me pregnant father.” She replied, her eyes still filed with fear. “Now shh.” She said as she bounced Carter in her arms. They heard him walk pat them, his footsteps loud and booming.
“Anika!” He called, she cursed. This was going to go horribly for her, being saved by him was the lowest chance in the history of chances.
“Stay here.” She whispered as she slowly left the closet. She raced up to meet him.
“Oh hello, why are you out of your room?” He asked, his yes filled with confusion. “Where were you anyway?”
“I was in the kids room, just checking to see if I should clean anything. Carter was fussy.” She lied. He cocked his head.
“Dont lie to me.” He replied grabbing her arm. “Where were you?”
“Im not lying.” She hissed.
“Jace come here!” He yelled. Jace raced up towards them.
“Father whats wrong?” He asked, seeing him holding her by the arm. “Father let her go please.”
“Your girl is lyin to me.” He replied. “She said she was in the kids room, to see if they needed to be cleaned, and that Carter was fussy. I ain’t heard the kid cry all day, and the kids are in their rooms. So either get her to tell me the truth, or snap Carters neck.” He replied. Her eyes grew wide, she suddenly began to cry hard.
“You touch my baby, and I will never speak to you again.” She replied terrified, she held the baby close to her body. “You kill him, and I kill you.” Jace growled at his father. “Why would I lie? What good would it do me?”
“Father, please let me handle this.” He replied. “I am her husband, let me do this.”
“If she doesn’t tell you the truth, snap it. You already have another child coming soon anyway.” He replied letting go of her, his finger prints already bruised into her arm.
“Anika tell me the truth please, you know I would never hurt our baby, please just tell me the truth.”
“The closet.” She replied. “I was in the closet.”
“You were in the closet?” He asked, his voice growing high as if he was confused. “Right..” He shook his head, “okay why were you in the closet?”
“There…oh god you’re going to hate me… There is a man in the closet… he was going to take me away from here. But I wasn’t sure if I should trust him. He grabbed me, and I thought it was you and he scared me and I was unsure if I should follow. I wanted to believe him, but at the same time I wanted to take him to you.” She said. She was spilling everything to him, she almost couldn’t stop.”
“Wait wait. There is a man, who touched you, and tried to take you away from me, in the closet. The one behind the tapestry?” He asked. “I dont hate you, good girl, you told me the truth.” He kissed her quickly. “Calm down, I won’t hate you darlin.”
“Are you going to kill him?” She asked.
“Not yet.” He replied. “Go back in there. Tell him to follow you, take him to the barn alright baby?”
“A..alright..” She replied. “Why the barn?”
“I have an idea.” He replied. “Don’t let anyone see you.”
She nodded and headed back to the closet. “Are you ready to go?” She asked pulling him along. He followed her and they raced through the courtyard, no one was outside at the time. She pulled him into the barn when she heard Jace. She was safe, he wasn’t going to punish her, she was safe.
“Why are we in here?”
“I heard someone.” She said, she looked to the middle of the barn, the dirt no longer bloody. She had flashbacks of her parents, watching Jace murder them in cold blood. Their heads separating from their bodies, him ‘raping’ her on the bench Carter now babbled on.
Thats when she saw Max, his dark hair hiding his eyes, and Jace smiling like a maniac. The man sat back, realizing they were trapped. “Anika, you didn’t tell me he was from the village.” Jace said, flipping off the lights. The only light now came from the sunlight shining through cracks in the wood.
“Sorry..I didn’t know if that mattered.” She replied, the mans eyes growing wide as she carefully picked up Carter, Lia appearing from behind her brother, she took the baby sweetly. “He needs a nap, been a long day.” She replied, Lia nodded taking Carter towards their home, Anika smirked.
“It’s more difficult to cover up, but no worries, we can always keep him.” Max replied, licking his lips, the blood on his knife dripping from a fresh kill. He had been carving up deer when Jace informed him of the new toy.
“You can always play with him before we kill him.” Jace said. The two men were walking closer to them. Anika was walking the opposite direction away from the man when he grabbed her wrist. The fear in his eyes real.
“Let me go.” She whined, Max and Jace both heard this cry from her and growls escaped their lips.
“You shouldn’t touch another mans wife, especially when she’s carrying his baby.” Max hissed as they came inches from them. He let her go and she fell into Jace’s arms, Anika was shaking, his death was going to be on her hands, but the safety of her and her babies was more important to her.
“Max go ahead play,” Jace said as he sent Anika back to the house. She met with Lia and they listened out the window as they heard the screaming.
–
“Please I just wanted to help her!” He screamed as Max stabbed his thigh. His clothes scattered across the barn. Max was enjoying himself, sexually and psychotically. The blood and sweat covered the barns dirt, cows horses, and pigs making noises hearing the discomfort.
“Shut up.” Max yelled pulling his hair as he hit the back of his head with the palm of his hand. He didn’t pass out, merely cried out in more pain.
“I am her husband, only I should be the one to help her.” Jace growled. “Now open your mouth.” The boy whimpered, biting his lip to keep his mouth closed. Max pried his mouth open, the boy was worried he would be double penetrated when Jace grabbed his tongue, he screamed in pain as he pulled and then with a quick movement cut.
Max laughed. “Finally he will shut up.” He said as he continued to force himself upon the boy. Max and Jace spent the next four hours slowly torturing the boy, by the end of their ‘fun’ the boy had nothing left to him. Each limb had been sliced away, after the tongue each finger and toe was removed, then while Max enjoyed himself they removed hands and feet. Finally the head, Max stayed behind for an hour longer, just to enjoy their kill on his own.
Jace walked back inside, blood splattered. He had never had so much fun before.
He was going to protect her forever, her and their children.
