Chapter 6 – Chap 6
“How did you escape?”
“Who are you?”
“I asked you a question, answer me!”
But Cloe didn’t answer, she didn’t know who he was, but she could tell my father wasn’t someone she could trust.
“Why do you talk to me like that…you’re mean!”
“No…I’d be mean if I was talking to an actual person, you barely qualify as one.”
My father grabbed Cloe by her shirt, Cloe began to feel scared, letting out a few tears in the process.
“Jessica!” Cloe shouted with the hope I would come to save her, but I was at school, oblivious to the whole thing.
“That name, how do you know that name? Do you think it’s still your own? You know you lost the right to that name a long time ago!”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
“So you don’t remember a thing…to be fair, that was to be expected, what was not , however is you still being alive, especially with that…thing roaming around. Are the others alive as well? By the way, you look…suprisingly clean, those cothes… Have you stolen them from upstairs? You little piece of trash!”
“I’m not talking to you!”
“Look, you have two options, be good and I’ll only send you back inside the bunker, be bad and die, It’s up to you.”
Cloe then kicked my father on the chest, she managed to break free and then ran upstairs. She saw a woman in the living room, at first she thought it was me, but that was imposible, the woman looked too old to be me. Regardless, Cloe had no one else, by that point she was full on crying, but she managed to hold back the tears for a few seconds and begded my mother for help.
“Please…I need help, soemone evil’s coming,please!”
My mother then started crying, even harder than Cloe.
“What’s…wrong?”
“You…You’re what’s wrong! WE ARE A HAPPY FAMILY! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? WE DON’T NEED YOU…yet here you are, reminding me of the accident, reminding me of our failures! “
“What?”
“GET OUT OF MY SIGHT, YOU FREAK!”
“I don’t understand!”
Cloe felt someone behind her,my father was at the other end of the room.
“I’ll explain it in a way even an inhuman shit like you could understand. Seeing you makes my wife sad, that makes ME sad, sad and angry. It’s your fault and you’re gonna pay, the end!”
She felt footsteps aproaching her, she turned back to see my mother with a machete in hand and instinctively ran as fast as she could to my room.
“Ok, here’s what I know…” said Mrs.Joan
“Apparently your sister was playing at the local park with some friends, she was climbing up the slide’s ladder, since it had rained the day prior, the ladder was a bit wet…she slipped, faling back to the ground and hitting the nape of her neck.”
“Wait…that’s it?”
“What do you mean, what were you expecting?”
A lot more actually, like, what did that have to do with…ANYTHING I had found out the day prior. This sounded like a pretty normal, albeit tragic death, but still, I was expecting something much more…dramatic and mysterious, the final irrefutable piece of evidence that proved Cloe was my sister or something like that, but I didn’t get that .What did the bunker, Cloe or Primal had to do with…a slide?
“Do you know anything else?”
“Well, I can tell you after her death, your parents pretty much isolated themselves until you were born, at least that’s the first time I saw them after the accident, I think they got depression, and I don’t blame them, it must’ve been heartbreaking!”
That was more like t! Maybe the bunker was built out of their grief and/or depression…but for what purpose? Maybe it was some sort of memorial? I didn’t know what to think at this point.
” Hey, take what I said with a grain of salt, it’s all just gossip and rumors! Only your parents know the truth, maybe you should try to ask them!”
“Belive me, I’ve tried! Anyway…thanks Mrs. Joan!”
I rushed back home, hoping to get there before my parents, and hoping Cloe was fine and hadn’t made a mess out of my house.
“Honey, don’t hide from me! I’m your mommy!”
But Cloe ignored my mother’s words and stayed inside the closet, curled up into a ball and stayed hidden behind all my clothes. She could feel my mother getting closer and closer to the closet, she had to do something…
The closet doors opened, my mother was expecting to find a defensless and scared Cloe, but what she found instead was a Cloe that jumped off the closet hitting my mother in the head with a pillow. That gave her enough time to run away from my room.
” COME BACK HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT!”
Cloe kept running, she didn’t even bother to listen to what my father had said and kept runing, turning around a corner, into the living room again.
She knew my parents were coming, she started to look for hiding spots, there were two, the first one was under the table, not that good of an option, she had to settle for the second one, a small chamber, so small she could barely fit in, the inside was filled with small black rocks Cloe had never seen before.
Upon seeing Cloe inside her hiding spot, my father began to laugh as if he had been told a joke so bad it’s good.
“Look,Robert, look! She’s so innocent I almost think she’s kinda cute!”
“The fireplace, really? I take it back, you are good at something, good at giving me original ideas and methods to kill you that is!”
My mother then walked into the kitchen and came back with a box full of matches and gave it to my father. He then grabed a match and lit it up.
“JESSICA, HELP!”
Cloe shouted as a last ditch effort to get some help, as she knew there was nothing else she could do.
“WHAT DID YOU SAY?”
“OH GOD… NO, PLEASE NO! OH,GOD, NO!”
My mother began crying again, as if a parent had just found out their child is dead or something like that.
“YOU…My daughter! She’ the reason you escaped, she’s the reason you’re so clean! Ugh…SHIT! I TOLD YOU WE SHOULDN’T HAVE LET HER STAY HOME ALONE, VANESSA!”
“SHE’S A TEENAGER, ROBERT! HER FRIENDS STAY HOME ALONE ALL THE TIME!”
My father then turned off the match.
“ALRIGHT,ENOUGH! You’re lucky ,scum.Your life has just been extended for a few minutes, we’ll wait for Jessica to arrive, we need to get to the bottom of this. Tell me, do you like suprises?”
“Not if they’re as bad as you!”
“Another insult like that and you can forget what I’ve said about sparing you!”
After a seconds of tension, the sound of a doorbell broke through the silence.
“Looks like the time has come! Alright you little pest, your…sister has arrived.”
My father then grabbed Cloe by the hair.
“Ow, that hurts!”
“Oh so you can feel pain, good to know. Anyway, it’s time for a little…family reunion.”
