Chapter 3 – Chap 3

Oh look Rylan’s posting on a weekday instead of the weekend.

Well I was going to post past two weekends but then I got distracted because I had exams. Anyways welcome to part 3 of my life gone to hell. If you haven’t, I suggest you read parts 1 and 2. Things will make much more sense if you do that.

This week was a little less eventful than what was in part 2.

–

“I’m gonna tell her. I’m gonna tell her.” I repeated to myself staring in the mirror in the bathroom on my floor.

Usually this would probably be my mantra to ask a cute girl out. It kinda is asking a cute girl out if you think about it. Just asking her to help me endure the hell that my life has become.

That’s what good friends and roommates do yeah? I fucking hope she’ll believe me.

I cannot do this alone. It has only been about three weeks almost four. I need someone to talk to about this face to face. Besides…. I think Parker’s getting suspicious.

I’ve been trying the best I can to soldier through. I’m at my limit though.

I practiced it. I made cards. I rehearsed it in my head again and again and when I was alone too. Here goes nothing. I approached her in our dorm. It was a rainy day so we were both stuck inside.

“Parker.” I placed a hand on her shoulder.

“Yeah hun?” She looked me in my eyes.

“I have something to tell you. You might want to sit down.”

“Okay. You alright Ry? Someone do something to you?”

“I’ll be better after this.”

“This is going to sound wild…”

“You aren’t helping my anxiety, just tell me what it is.”

“….. Ever since waking up after the party I have had no memory of my life. I didn’t know my name, you, where I was…. anything….” my breath became short and raggedy and I paced around faster and ran my hands through my hair. “I didn’t know who the fuck I was and I still don’t know—I’m so lost as to why I have apparently no family in my contacts in my phone—“

Parker let me ramble this for about 30 seconds longer before standing up and grabbing my arm.

“Rylan…. I’ve suspected something… I didn’t know what but something…. you’ve been acting… strange ever since you woke up that morning. It was like you were a different person. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to go all Invasion Of The Body Snatchers on you.” Parker pulled me into a hug.

I didn’t know how to react so I just hugged her back.

“Thank you.” I said, feeling the anxiety decrease.

“Of course.” She said.

“It feels so good to get that off my chest.” I sighed. “Now, do you know anything that might help me understand what’s going on?”

Parker shook her head slowly and sadly.

“I mean you were acting a little weird.” She shrugged. “Like I don’t know. You seemed to be nervous about something. Of course I assumed it was the first wave of exams coming up. But like you would look over your shoulder so much. I think you woke up screaming a few times but like you waved it off as nightmares.”

“Well.” I said. “I don’t know what I was thinking—duh—but it wasn’t just a nightmare. There’s apparently been a creature that’s stalking me…”

As I filled her in on everything that has happened to my knowledge she listened intently, sometimes adding bits and pieces of what she knew of me before.

“You mentioned a sleep paralysis demon once but never described it to me.” She said. “So I don’t know how helpful that would be.” She pursed her lips and tapped her foot. “Do you think the creature has something to do with your scar?”

“I mean I assume so I didn’t get a look at it’s claws or whatever so I don’t even know if it was it but it had to be right?” I said.

“Unless you fell on a really small shovel cartoon style or something I guess so.” Parker said with a laugh.

“Ha ha.” I rolled my eyes.

–

I had a long week. It was also short. I hate weeks like these. I told Parker on Monday. It is Thursday as I type this. Monday feels like it was an hour ago but also forever ago.

Unfortunately this creature has been popping up in my periphery. Crouching behind a bush, around the corner of the hallway, just behind a person in a crowd.

I’m starting to think this is It Follows rules and I’m the only one who can see it.

It doesn’t move. It just stares at me, sometimes it’s tongue lolls out of it’s mouth. It’s forked like a snake’s. It’s pulled the freezing me in place trick multiple times. It’s like when you’re in a nightmare and know it. I hear it laughing in my head, but it sounds like the hollow wind.

I’ve started to avoid going out at night, which I guess is good, but if I have to I cling onto Parker as though she’s my guardian. It may have impacted my social life. Or what was my social life before all this.

People would text me wanting to party but I’d decline.

The anxiety and fear I have is definitely taking a toll on me.

Just the other day one of my friends from the GSA, Kennedy, ran up to me and said “hey Rylan!”

And in that instant as I heard footsteps rushing towards me my body froze in fear. I screamed when they touched my shoulder.

That was awkward to explain.

I managed to come up with a half convincing lie about not sleeping well. I think they bought it.

–

It was a nice day out. The leaves were turning their fall colors and scattered across the ground. We were walking to the garden. I had my camera with me just because. Something caught my eye. It was movement. It was red. The same light red that was the creature. It dragged it’s feet as it walked.

“Parker! I see it!” I pointed.

“What? Where?” She was staring a little to the left of it.

“Right there!” I pointed.

“There’s nothing there!” It was It Follows rules, I mentally cursed myself.

I fumbled for my camera and pulled it out without looking and with shaky hands.

It spoke into my mind with the same laughter as before.

”Your friend can’t see me”

“Yeah. Well what about this?” I snapped a photo without breaking my line of sight. “Fuck you.” I said. “I’ll have proof of you.”

It laughed again.

”Sure you will.” And it vanished again.

I looked at my camera and looked at the most recent photo. My heart sunk as I saw the photo was heavily distorted.

–

It was outside again. The courtyard. Staring up at me. Why did it stare. Why did it not simply go inside my closet? And peer out like a fucking cartoon monster? Why stand menacingly outside?!!!? I’m tired of this. I need to find a way to get rid of it. And so dear readers, is where I address you. If you have any experience in the paranormal please let me know. I want to get rid of this thing. I don’t know if killing it would even be feasible. If anyone knows how to deal with demons or monsters please leave a comment. Hopefully I’ll be back with another update sooner than I was with this.
