Chapter 26

Sarah gets a message on her dating app. It’s from a boy named Trey. She instantly recognizes the boy’s photo. He invited her to go camping this weekend.

“I’d love to,” she writes back. She’s never gone camping before, but she knows she can’t let this opportunity go to waste.

Trey chose the spot and picked her up in his car.

Once they get to the campsite, he brings out two tents. Telling him that she’s “too scared to sleep in one by herself,” they work together to set up a single tent instead.

After they finish setting up, Trey offers to teach her how to fish. “Dinner tastes way better when you catch it yourself,” he tells her.

After catching a few fish, he then shows her how to clean them and cook them on the campfire. He does all the work himself, but she expected as much. He then puts some on a plate for himself and some for her. She doesn’t like the taste of the fish, but pretends it’s delicious.

As the moon rises, the howling of wolves fills the night air. Sarah gets scared, saying that she wants to head to bed. Trey stays up for a bit, cooking marshmallows on the fire.

Sarah sneaks into the woods behind the tent, throwing up. She then wipes her mouth and quietly climbs in the tent.

As the fire begins to die down, Trey hears movement in the bushes. Holding his marshmallow stick as a weapon, he goes to look. He peaks his head around the tree, seeing a little squirrel chewing on an acorn. He laughs to himself, “It’s just a dumb squirrel.” He then turns around, startled by Sarah standing right in front of him. “Oh, you scared me-“

She stabs him in the gut.

“It’s such a peaceful night, isn’t it, Trey?” She stares at him, eyes like daggers. “You know, I’ve heard all about you. How you like to bring your date out into the woods so you can be all alone. How you drug their food, wait for them to pass out, and rape their defenceless body over and over. And it wasn’t just one time either. You’ve done this to girl after girl, victim after victim.”

Trey falls over, his hands clutching the stab wound, trying to slow the bleeding.

“Wanna know how I know? Because my best friend was one of the girls you defiled.” She kicks him on the ground. “Anne. You remember her, don’t you? Or have you raped too many girls to keep count?” She then bends down, running the knife’s blade along his face. “She told me about you, right before she took her own life.”

Speechless and terrified, he looks at her, almost as if waiting for something.

Sarah spits on him, “Don’t bother. I puked up all the fish you fed me. I started feeling numb, so I knew I had to get it out of my system. If I hadn’t, you’d probably be having your way with me right now. Isn’t this a nicer turn of events? I sure think so.”

She stabs him again, “This is for Anne.”

And again.

And again.

“I don’t know how many girls you’ve brought here, but I can promise you, I’ll be the last.” Sarah walks over to her bag, trading her knife for a shovel. Right next to Trey, she starts digging.

He just watches, unable to move. “What are you..”

“Digging the hole your body’s gonna rot in.”

Trey’s eyes close as the blood continues to leak from his stomach.

Once done, Sarah kicks Trey’s body into the hole. Smiling for the first time since Anne died. “Rest in peace, shitbag.”
