Chapter 4
He holds on for dear life. One hand on the cliff’s edge, the other carrying the weight of the love of his life. His throat burns, unable to scream any longer. The skin on his fingers start to tear as they slip closer and closer to the edge. He looks down at her, expecting to see a face full of fear. Instead, all he sees are eyes filled with warmth, and lips softly curved in the shape of a smile.
“Let me go.”
Struggling to make a sound, his head shakes. No. I won’t.
His hand slips once more, ripping the nails from his fingers. The blood starts dripping down his arm. He can’t feel his hands anymore, both have gone numb. All he knows is that he can’t let go. I won’t.
Mustering all the strength he has left, he tries once more to lift her up.
It’s no use, he’s already torn the muscles in his arm. He doesn’t give up hope. It’s okay, I’m gonna get us out of this!
He turns his head back down, only to find his clutched hand empty as the love of his life makes a splash in the waters below.
His mind goes blank; his hand slips.
