Chapter 2

A cute little boy sat on a chair, pouting angrily with sadness in his eyes. His nose and face were red, a clear sign that he had been crying. “Kookie baby, it’s just a few months, and we’ll come here back hmm?. Don’t be sad, okay? Look at me,” a middle-aged woman spoke softly, caressing the boy’s hair.

“Your Jinnie hyung and TaeTae will call you every day. We’ll do video calls. Just for a few months, and then my Kookie will be with his hyungies again, right?”

Little Jungkook stared at her, almost glaring, but he still looked so cute. “I’ll only eat if you say hyungies can come with me,” he pouted even more, “if not, then I won’t eat. Hmph!”

The woman sighed for what felt like the hundredth time. “Do you want me to scold you, huh? Here, eat.” She raised her voice slightly, and Jungkook’s eyes welled up with tears.

“Y-you…you’re a b-baddie! K-Kookie w-won’t t-talk to y-you!” Jungkook sobbed, becoming a crying mess. He cried so loudly that two older boys rushed over with worried expressions.

“Kookie, why are you crying, baby?” One of the tall boys asked, lifting him up gently. Jungkook buried his face in the boy’s broad shoulder.

“J-Jinnie…Yoona is sc-scolding m-me,” he cried, addressing his mother by her name-a habit of his.

“Baby, Yoona is sorry, okay? See, I’m sorry, Kookie,” Yoona said, trying to pick him up, but Jungkook wiggled away.

“Kookie, baby, stop crying. You’ve cried so much today, it’s not good for your health, bunny,” Jin said, placing him on the table and wiping away his tears with his thumb. Jungkook sobbed, still pouting.

“I’m sorry, baby,” Yoona said, holding her ears in apology. Jungkook just glared at her while Jin and Yoona chuckled softly. Yoona finally picked him up, but he refused to hug her, folding his arms stubbornly.

“Why did you scold him, Eomma?” Tae asked, sitting beside her.

“He wasn’t eating dinner,” Yoona explained, and Tae looked at Jungkook, who still wore the same pout.

“Why weren’t you eating, Kook?” Tae asked.

“I-I won’t eat until y-you both agree to come with me to Italy,” Jungkook replied, his pout growing bigger. The trio sighed sadly.

“Baby, they both have studies here, Kookie. Just for a few months, and then we can all be together again,” Yoona tried to reason with him, but Jungkook shook his head stubbornly.

“Study there,” he insisted.

“Baby, we can’t. Tae and I have exams coming up, and once you get better, you’ll come back to us. It’s for your health, Kookie, please understand. TaeTae and I will call you every day,” Jin said, trying to convince him.

“I d-don’t wanna leave y-you. K-Kookie will be a-alone there,” he sobbed, tears streaming down his face again.

Yoona gently wiped his tears and asked softly, “Do you want to get healthy or not?”

“Get healthy,” Jungkook mumbled.

“After you get healthy, you’ll come back here and be with your hyungies forever. But you need to get treated first, right?” Yoona said, gently coaxing him. Jungkook pouted and nodded slowly.

“B-but I want my hyungies there,” he said again.

“But your hyungies have exams and studies, Kookie. We shouldn’t disturb their studies, right?” Yoona reasoned, and Jungkook nodded, still pouting.

“B-but…” Jungkook began, but Tae interrupted, “Kookie, don’t throw tantrums. After you get better, you’ll come back here, your Jin hyung and your tae tae will always be with you. I promise.”

Tae said who was only twelve, jin and yoona smiled, holding out his pinky. Jungkook smiled faintly and linked his little pinky with Tae’s, making a promise.

“Now will you go to Italy?” Jin asked, hoping for a yes. Jungkook pouted but nodded, resting his head on Yoona’s chest.

“But you have to call me 5 times…no, 10 times…no, 20…no, 30 times!” Jungkook started to increase the number, but Jin cut him off, laughing softly.

“We’ll call you plenty of times, Kookie. Promise. Now will you smile for hyungie?” Jin asked gently. Jungkook slowly smiled, and the trio smiled with him.

A week later, Jungkook left for Italy, crying for hours over leaving his hyungies. His cousins cried too, especially Tae. After reaching Italy with his parents, Jungkook underwent surgery to treat his weak heart. Jin, Tae, and their cousins called him often, never missing a day. After four months, Jungkook finally recovered from the surgery. Everything seemed perfect-until that day.

Jin received a call from his father. “Nae, Appa?” Jin answered happily.

“J-Jin…” His father’s voice cracked with emotion.

“Appa, is everything okay?” Jin asked, panic rising as he heard his father’s broken voice.

“J-Jin, Y-Yoona…” His father was crying now.

“Appa, what happened to Eomma? Why are you crying?” Jin asked, panicking even more.

“Yoona and Kookie…they had an accident…” his father choked out.

“W-what? A-Appa, what did you say? I think I misheard you…” Jin stammered, not believing what he had just heard.

“Yoona…d-died at the scene, and K-Kookie is in a coma,” his father said. Jin’s world shattered. He had lost his mother, and now his little brother was in a coma. Just hours ago, they had spoken happily. Now, everything had changed.

Jin and Tae, along with their uncle, rushed to Italy. They arrived at the hospital to hear the devastating news: Jungkook had been in a coma for three days. Their father heartbroken, met them at the hospital. The next blow came soon after.

“Jungkook has lost all his memories,” the doctor said, and Tae and Jin’s world collapsed once again.

“If he tries to remember anything from his past, there are chances in loosing him It’s best for him not to remember,” the doctor warned.

When Jungkook woke up and saw his father and brothers, he was terrified. Seeing their baby brother so scared of them, their hearts broke.

“I’m staying here with Jungkook,” their father told Jin and Tae. They agreed, knowing Jungkook needed proper medical treatment. Their uncle, Hyunwoo was stayed with Mr. kim.  That was the last day they saw their little brother, who now looked at them like they were strangers. The only people he trusted were his father and his eomma.

After Jin and Tae returned to Korea, they tried to call and visit, but their father wouldn’t allow it, overprotective of Jungkook’s health. Eventually, they accepted it and stopped trying. Years passed, and Jungkook grew up, unaware that he had two brothers who missed him every day.

But little did they know, the boy they believed to be happy and healthy was suffering. His life was far from the happiness they imagined. And the lies told to both Jungkook and his hyungs were deeper than anyone knew.
