Chapter 24
Jungkook slowly opened his eyes. As soon as he did, he regretted it—a sharp pain shot through his head. He groaned and held his head tightly.
“K-Kookie, a-are you fine?” Tae’s shaky voice reached his ears.
Jungkook blinked slowly and looked at Tae, but another wave of pain hit him, making him whimper. As he glanced around, he realized that this wasn’t his room. Suddenly, a nauseous feeling crept up inside him. He quickly covered his mouth and got up, rushing to the restroom.
The moment he reached the toilet, he started gagging. Liquid spilled out, burning his throat like hell. He gagged again, but nothing came out this time. A few tears escaped his eyes from the strain.
“Let it out, Kookie. Don’t hold it in. I’m here. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine,” Jin said softly, rubbing his back in a soothing motion.
Jungkook heaved one last time, but his stomach was completely empty now. The only thing left was the unbearable pain.
“Are you okay now?” Jin asked, concern dripping from his voice.
Jungkook nodded weakly, panting.
“Come on, let’s get you up. I’m here,” Jin said as he helped Jungkook stand. Jin flushed the toilet, then guided Jungkook to the sink. Jin helped Jungkook to wash his face, jungkook barely had the energy to do so and also didn’t have any energy to speak.
Once they were done jin brought Jungkook to the bed
“Hyungie, here,” Tae said, handing a glass of warm water.
Jin took it and gently placed it near Jungkook’s lips.
“Drink it slowly. Your throat must be hurting, so sip it little by little,” Jin instructed.
Jungkook nodded slightly and took small sips. He was holding the glass, but it was Jin who provided most of the support.
“Lie down, hmm? The doctor is coming,” Jin said, caressing Jungkook’s hair.
Jungkook didn’t say anything—he just stared into Jin’s eyes.
“Kookie, does your head still hurt?” Jin asked, worried.
Jungkook didn’t respond this time either.
“Kookie, say something. You’re scaring us,” Tae said, his voice trembling, on the verge of tears.
Jungkook looked at Tae and saw his tear-filled eyes.
“Why are they this worried about me? Do they really care about me? But why? Do I deserve this? No… right? Then why?”
Jungkook questioned himself silently.
(So you guys tell me… Do jungkook really deserve care? Why is he thinking he don’t deserve anything?? Any guesses???)
He was pulled from his thoughts when he heard the door opening. He turned his gaze towards it—it was Hyunwoo.
“Jungkookie,” Hyunwoo called out and immediately walked to him. He placed his hand on Jungkook’s forehead and asked, “Since when have you had a fever?”
“F-F-From m-morning, I think,” Jungkook stammered, his voice weak. He looked at Hyunwoo, but his mind felt hazy.
Another door opened, but Jungkook didn’t turn to see who it was.
“Kookie, the doctor is here, hmm? He will treat you. First, tell me, is your head still hurting?” Hyunwoo asked gently.
Jungkook nodded slightly.
“Doctor, please treat him,” Hyunwoo said.
The doctor nodded and began unpacking medical supplies.
“First, check his temperature,” a woman’s voice instructed.
Jungkook’s breath hitched—he immediately recognized that voice. His heart pounded.
“N-No… n-noona?” Jungkook whispered, his breathing becoming erratic.
He turned his head toward the direction of the voice, his eyes wide with shock.
There she was—his noona, his Haein Noona
His noona whom he had missed unconditionally. His noona whose hugs and warmth he had craved for so long.
Even though she was standing right in front of him, he couldn’t run into her arms and cry his heart out.
Haein looked at him, her eyes teary, but she quickly turned away.
Jungkook kept staring at her, his body trembling. His breathing grew unsteady. Everyone in the room noticed it.
Jin’s worry spiked.
“Kookie, look at me, baby. Take deep breaths. Nothing will happen. Just breathe, okay?” Jin’s soft voice calmed him slightly.
“What are you looking at? Go and treat him,” Haein said sternly to the doctor.
“Y-Yes, ma’am, b-but only one person can stay. The rest should leave,” the doctor said hesitantly.
“I will stay. You all go out,” Hyunwoo said firmly.
Tae nodded and walked out without protest. Haein also left.
Jin hesitated. He turned to Hyunwoo.
“Uncle… he will be fine, right?” Jin asked, his voice full of concern.
Hyunwoo patted Jin’s shoulder reassuringly.
“He will be. Go take care of Tae. Make him sleep—he’s really scared,” Hyunwoo said.
Jin nodded but looked at Jungkook one last time. Jungkook was breathing heavily and staring blankly at the wall.
Jin sighed before walking out.
Once everyone had left, Hyunwoo sighed and looked at Jungkook.
“K-Kookie, I—”
He was cut off when Jungkook suddenly yelled, his voice laced with anger and pain.
“Why the hell is she here??”
Jungkook’s breathing turned ragged. His hands clenched into fists.
His eyes burned with a mix of confusion, anger, and something deeper—something broken.
“Kook, calm down first,” Hyunwoo said, rubbing Jungkook’s chest.
“Ahh! Wae?? Why the fuck is she here? Did you bring her to make me more miserable?” Jungkook asked, his voice filled with hurt.
Hyunwoo shook his head, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
“Then why?? Did he ask you to make me suffer by seeing her?” Jungkook demanded.
Hyunwoo shook his head again and held Jungkook’s hand.
“Kook, you’re not in your senses right now. Please, calm down. You’ll only make your headache and fever worse. Please,” Hyunwoo pleaded.
“I asked why she is here?” Jungkook insisted stubbornly.
“I brought her. Nothing else. Now, let the doctor treat you,” Hyunwoo said firmly.
Jungkook looked at him with a betrayed expression. He yanked his hand away from Hyunwoo’s grasp.
“Why don’t you just kill me?” Jungkook said bitterly.
And the next moment—slap!
Hyunwoo had slapped him.
“Don’t speak nonsense, Kook. Just shut your mouth and listen. You are not in your right senses. Let the doctor treat you first. Please cooperate, Kook,” Hyunwoo said, his voice now pleading.
Jungkook didn’t react. He just lay there silently.
Meanwhile, the doctor watched everything with confused eyes. He didn’t understand a single word they had spoken, as they were conversing in Italian.
“Treat him,” Hyunwoo finally said to the doctor.
The doctor nodded and began checking Jungkook.
Hyunwoo stayed beside him, watching with tear-filled eyes.
Before Jin called Hyunwoo.
Hyunwoo was waiting outside the Queen’s building. Soon, he saw Haein approaching. He smiled and got out of the car, opening his arms. Haein hugged him tightly.
“Missed you a lot, Uncle,” Haein said.
“Missed you too, Haein-ah,” Hyunwoo replied, patting her head affectionately.
“Shall we go?” Hyunwoo asked.
Haein smiled and nodded. They got into the car, and Hyunwoo started driving.
“How are things going, Haein-ah?” Hyunwoo asked.
“As usual, Uncle. Everything is under his control, but I’m glad that I’m here now,” Haein said with a slight smile.
Hyunwoo hummed in agreement. “I’m happy you’re here. Eunwoo won’t be alone anymore.”
“Yes, I’m glad he’s happy,” Haein said with a smile.
“When I called him, he said he was so happy, practically on cloud nine,” Hyunwoo said, chuckling.
Haein chuckled along. “Nae.”
“He missed you a lot,” Hyunwoo added.
Haein hummed softly. “How is Kookie?” she asked.
Hyunwoo sighed deeply. “I don’t know what to do with him. He never listens to me, always locks himself in his room. He isn’t even speaking to anyone. To be honest, I haven’t seen his real smile since the incident.”
Haein gritted her teeth in anger. “I’ll never forgive you for doing this to my Kookie, Kim,” she thought to herself.
“I’m just glad he’s finally with his hyungs,” Hyunwoo continued.
“Huh, hyungs? His biological hyung?” Haein asked curiously.
“Nae. They take good care of him. Kook is their world. Jin will always protect him, but I’m scared for him,” Hyunwoo admitted.
“Why?” Haein asked.
“You don’t know Jin. If he ever finds out what Kim did to Kookie, he’ll literally kill Kim with his own hands. He’ll go to any lengths if he hears the word brothers again,” Hyunwoo explained.
Haein scoffed. “Then why the fuck did he let Kookie stay with that monster, huh?”
Hyunwoo sighed deeply. “You don’t even know what Jin did that day… Forget it,” he said, focusing on driving.
“I will never forgive anyone for doing that to my kook,” Haein thought fiercely.
Just then, Hyunwoo got a call from Jin. He connected it to Bluetooth, and Haein listened to the conversation. She became very worried as she heard the panic in Jin’s voice.
“Do you want to see Kookie?” Hyunwoo asked after the call ended.
Haein nodded with hesitation.
