Chapter 28

“Come on, lie down,” Tae said as he helped Jungkook lay down on the bed properly.

“Call yourself lucky, Kook,” Tae said, smiling widely.

“Wae?” Jungkook asked, confused.

“You don’t know about Jin hyung. He can really punish hard if it’s about health. And if it’s about skipping meals or lying about it, he’ll surely punish you hard. But you escaped this time. I was scared for you, but luckily, hyung said he wouldn’t do anything,” Tae explained truthfully.

Jungkook stared at Tae. “He will punish?” he asked innocently.

“Yes, when he’s angry, he’s the scariest person in the world, I swear. That day, I won’t ever forget,” Tae said with a sigh.

“Which day?” Jungkook asked, curiosity evident.

“Should I tell you?” Tae asked teasingly.

Jungkook nodded without hesitation.

For the first time, he genuinely wanted to listen to Tae.

Tae began narrating.

Flashback: 4 Years Ago (Tae’s Fresher Year)

It was Tae’s first year at university, and it turned out to be the most difficult year for him. He was swamped with projects and assignments, and his focus was solely on his academics. He started neglecting his health in the process.

Jin was also very busy at the time, often leaving early in the morning for work. Tae lied to Jin about eating properly, and Jin believed him. Tae barely ate one meal a day, thinking he needed to score good marks to make Jin proud—even though Jin never asked him to.

Jimin, who was around, kept insisting Tae take care of himself, but Tae never listened. Instead, he lied to Jimin too. This unhealthy routine went on for weeks.

One exam day, Tae developed a very high fever and could barely focus on studying. During the exam, he could only manage to write answers to 10 questions before his condition worsened.

That same day, Tae decided to drive home even though he was feeling dizzy. He didn’t inform Jimin or anyone else about his condition. While driving, Tae’s dizziness worsened, and he fainted behind the wheel, causing his car to crash into another.

That Day with Jin

Jin had finished his work and meetings early. He needed a document that he had left at home, so he decided to go back and get it.

While driving, Jin noticed a car speeding toward him uncontrollably. He gasped, realizing it was Tae’s car. Within seconds, Tae’s car collided with Jin’s, causing an accident.

Luckily, both of them survived without major injuries. Jin immediately got out of his car and rushed to Tae’s.

Opening the door, Jin saw Tae unconscious. “Tae! Tae! Bear, baby, what happened? Look at hyungie, baby. Tae, don’t scare me, please!” Jin pleaded desperately, trying to wake Tae, but to no avail. He also noticed how warm Tae’s body felt, realizing Tae had a high fever.

Without wasting any time, Jin called for an ambulance and took Tae to the hospital.

At the Hospital

Jin waited anxiously outside the emergency room. Soon, Jimin, Yoongi, Hobi, and Namjoon arrived, all visibly worried.

“Hyung, what happened to Tae?” they all asked, concerned.

Jin explained the situation to them.

Jimin spoke up. “Hyung, I think he’s been skipping meals. Whenever I asked if he ate lunch, he said yes, but he never came with me to the cafeteria. Did he eat breakfast and dinner?”

“He said he did,” Jin replied, his face tense.

Before they could say anything more, the doctor came out.

“Is he fine?” Jin asked worriedly.

“Yes, sir, he’s fine now. But he needs a lot of care. He’s extremely weak, and his blood test shows he’s lacking vitamins and iron. I believe he’s been skipping meals. We’ve given him an injection and IV fluids. He’ll be discharged once the IV finishes. Don’t worry, he’ll be fine in two days if he eats properly and takes his medicines on time,” the doctor reassured them before leaving.

All of them went into Tae’s room and saw him sleeping peacefully. Jin glared at him.

“I won’t let him off this time,” Jin muttered, his tone firm.

“This moran lied to me,” Jimin grumbled, earning a light smack from Yoongi.

“Stop cursing him, Chim,” Yoongi scolded playfully.

“He really knows how to make Jin hyung worry,” Hobi said to no one in particular.

“He’s Jin’s brother, after all. Like hyung, like dongsaeng,” Namjoon commented with a chuckle.

Jin glared at Namjoon. “I agree,” Yoongi, Jimin, and Hobi chorused, laughing.

Jin rolled his eyes and walked over to Tae.

He placed a hand on Tae’s forehead, relieved to find that Tae’s fever had gone down significantly. Jin sighed and mumbled, “Get well soon, Tae.”

“He’ll be fine, hyung. Don’t worry,” Yoongi reassured him.

“I hope so,” Jin said softly.

Time Skip (After 4 Hours)

Finally, Tae woke up. He blinked a few times, trying to process where he was. He looked around in confusion, then spotted Jimin sitting nearby.

“Jimin-ahhh,” Tae whined, his voice hoarse.

Jimin’s head snapped up instantly, and he rushed to Tae’s side like a concerned mother. “Hey! What happened? Is something hurting? Do you need anything? Water? Food? A new brain?” Jimin bombarded him with questions, his voice laced with worry.

Tae stared at him, utterly baffled. “A-are you… my Jimin?” he asked, his face scrunched up in confusion. He was confused by jimin@s new behaviour.

Jimin gasped dramatically, clutching his chest like he had been stabbed. “Y-you don’t know me? YAH! I AM YOUR BEST FRIEND, KIM JIMIN! HOW DARE YOU FORGET ME? AH, NOOO, HE LOST HIS MEMORIES!”

Just as Jimin was about to wail like a tragic drama heroine, the door creaked open. Jin and Hobi walked in.

“Hyungieeees!” Jimin whined, running toward them. “Hyungs, he doesn’t remember us! Do something! I think something happened to his brain! Maybe—”

Before Jimin could continue his nonsense, Tae rolled his eyes. “YAH, JIMIN-AH! How can I forget you, you pabo?!” Tae snapped.

Jimin immediately sighed in relief, his dramatic performance coming to an abrupt halt. But just as he relaxed, his eyes narrowed. “Oh? You remember me? THEN HOW DARE YOU LIE TO ME, YOU LITTLE—”

Without warning, Jimin smacked Tae’s head and left arm, making Tae yelp in pain.

“YAH! ARE YOU CRAZY, PABO?” Tae whined, rubbing his head.

Jimin huffed. “OH, I’M CRAZY? YOU THINK I WOULDN’T FIND OUT YOU’VE BEEN LYING ABOUT EATING PROPERLY?! YOU DUG YOUR OWN GRAVE, KIM TAEHYUNG!”

Tae turned to Jin for help, “Hyungie, tell him to shut up!”

Jimin scoffed. “Hyung, first tell him to—”

And just like that, they started bickering like two toddlers fighting over a toy. Jin and Hobi simply stood there, watching them in disbelief.

Finally, Jin had enough. “CAN YOU BOTH SHUT UP?” he said, his voice stern.

Both Tae and Jimin shut their mouths immediately, looking like scolded puppies.

Jin sighed, then turned his attention back to Tae. “Tae, are you feeling fine now? Do you feel dizzy?”

Tae shook his head, indicating he was fine. Jin let out a relieved sigh. “Hobi, call a nurse. The IV is finished.”

Hobi nodded and stepped out to call the nurse.

A few minutes later, the nurse arrived and began removing Tae’s IV. As soon as she pulled it out, Tae hissed in pain.

“That’s it, that’s it, you’re doing great,” Jin said, rubbing Tae’s back like he was comforting a child after getting a flu shot.

The nurse chuckled before saying, “Wait here, I’ll call the doctor.” Then she left the room.

As they waited, Tae finally noticed how weirdly calm Jin was. Normally, if Tae had done something this reckless, Jin would have been yelling.

Tae gestured for Jimin to come closer. Jimin leaned in, expecting something serious.

“What happened to Jin hyungie? And how did I even end up here?” Tae whispered innocently.

Jimin sighed dramatically. “Oh, buddy… you dug your own grave, Tae. No one can save you this time.”

Jimin quickly summarized what had happened.

Tae’s eyes widened in horror. He gulped. “Oh no… I’m dead, aren’t I?”

Jimin smirked. “Oh, you’re beyond dead. You better start writing your will now.”

Two Days After Tae’s Recovery…

Right now, Tae was running in the backyard, looking like he had just escaped from a zombie apocalypse.

“Hyungieeeee, I’m sorry! I will… never… skip meals again! Please! It’s already been 30 laps… PLEASE!” he panted, holding his knees and practically crying in front of Jin and Jimin.

Meanwhile, Jin was sitting comfortably on a lounge chair, sipping lemonade like a rich CEO on vacation. Jimin, on the other hand, was the real villain. He sat on top of the table, legs crossed, wearing sunglasses, and sipping his milkshake like he was the king of the world.

“Come on, Tae, you can do it!” Jimin said in a fake, overly enthusiastic voice, acting like he was actually cheering him on.

Tae shot him the deadliest glare possible. “You are enjoying this way too much, Kim Jimin.”

Jin, completely ignoring Tae’s suffering, clapped his hands. “No tantrums, Tae. This is your punishment. Now, finish it.”

Tae groaned in frustration but then suddenly got a devilish idea. He turned to Jin and pointed a dramatic finger at Jimin. “HYUNGIE, HE ALSO SKIPPED MEALS!”

Jin’s head snapped toward Jimin so fast it could have broken his neck. “HUH?”

Jimin’s sunglasses nearly fell off his nose as he whined dramatically. “AHHHH WAE??”

Jin crossed his arms and stared at Jimin with pure betrayal. “Did. You. Skip. Meals?”

Jimin gulped. “Only… sometimes! Not like him!” he stammered, trying to escape the death sentence.

Jin sighed in disappointment. “20 laps. With Tae.”

“AHHHH WAE??!” Jimin screamed like his life had ended.

Tae smirked. “Come on, Jimin-ah, let’s do it together!” he said, acting all motivational.

Jimin turned to Tae with a glare that could burn buildings down. “Hyungieeee pl—” he was cut off by Jin’s stern voice “Go now!!!”

Jimin sighed and got up he kept the sunglasses and the milkshake down and dragged his body. He glared at tae and started running with him. The backyard was so big.

“You freaking moron. YAH! WHY DID YOU DRAG ME INTO THIS?” he cursed under his breath while running with tae.

Tae pouted innocently. “Should I tell hyung that you just cursed at me?”

Jimin’s soul left his body. “AHHHH HELL NO! LEAVE ME ALONE!” he screamed and immediately turned around and ran in the opposite direction.

Jin just sat there, watching them with an amused chuckle, sipping his lemonade like he was watching a reality show.

After the Laps…

Jimin and Tae were lying flat on the grass, panting like dying fish.

Jin stood over them, shaking his head. “This is the last time, guys. No more skipping meals. Tae, you skipped meals thinking you’d score good marks, but because you neglected your health, you FAILED.” Jin pointed at Tae like he was making a dramatic revelation.

Tae blinked. “Mianhaeyo… I’ll score better next time!”

Before Jin could respond, Jimin smacked Tae on the back—HARD.

“YOU PABO! HE IS SCOLDING YOU FOR SKIPPING MEALS, NOT FOR YOUR MARKS!” Jimin yelled, officially done with Tae’s existence.

Tae scratched his head awkwardly. “Hehehe… sorry. No skipping meals from now on!”

Jin nodded approvingly. “Good. Now, let’s go inside. Today, Yoongi and I are making dinner.”

Suddenly, Jimin and Tae resurrected from the dead.

“TASTY YUMMY FOOD???” they both screamed, eyes sparkling like kids in a candy store.

The two idiots immediately jumped up and ran toward the house, their exhaustion completely forgotten.

Jin chuckled, shaking his head. “Unbelievable.”

Flashback Ends.

“Didn’t he scold you for taking a failing mark?” Jungkook asked, surprised.

“Ani, he didn’t. For hyung, health always comes first. Only after that comes everything else. He only punishes me when I do something wrong about my health,” Tae said with a smile.

Jungkook nodded, taking in Tae’s words.

“You know what? Yoongi hyung always gets punished by Jin hyungie,” Tae said casually.

“Why?” Jungkook asked, curious.

“Because he’s a grumpy cat who always neglects his health over work. But trust me, Jin hyung and Yoongi hyung are the strictest. If they find out any issues with our health because of our own negligence, they’ll punish us so hard. Experience, bro!” Tae said dramatically, making Jungkook chuckle lightly at the way Tae was telling the story. Jungkook was also so amused by the care of Jin.

Tae smiled, feeling warm seeing Jungkook smile.

“Always keep that smile, Kookie,” Tae whispered softly.

“Huh?” Jungkook asked, not hearing properly.

Tae shook his head. “Nothing.”

Jungkook just nodded, not pushing further.

Just then, Jin entered the room with a smile.

“Okay, it’s time to sleep.”

“Ahhh, I am soooo sleepy!” Tae said dramatically, stretching like a cat.

“I’m going to sleep. Good night, hyung. Good night, Kookie,” Tae said, yawning and heading toward the door.

He was about to leave when Jin said, “Tae, wait outside. I’ll come.”

Tae nodded and went out.

Jin then looked at Jungkook, who slowly spoke up.

“I-I can go to my room. You sleep here,” Jungkook said while trying to get up, but Jin quickly made him lay back down.

“It’s okay, Kook. Sleep here. Anyway, someone has to stay near you, so don’t worry. I’ll stay with you. Are you okay with it?” Jin asked softly.

Jungkook hesitated for a moment before giving a small nod.

Like, godddd… The Jungkook, who never slept with anyone for years, finally allowed someone to stay near him. Someone whom he hated the most.

Jin smiled gently.

“Okay, wait a moment. I’ll be right back.”

Jungkook nodded again, and Jin left the room quietly, smiling to himself.
