Chapter 52

Haein poked her cheek absentmindedly before speaking, her tone laced with sarcasm.

“Mister Kim Seokjin, I already told you—I was just trying to comfort him. I also have a little brother the same age as Jungkook, so I know how to comfort someone younger. I treated him just like I would treat my own brother. Any other questions, Mister?” She finished, her sharp eyes glaring at Jin.

Jin raised an eyebrow at her response, scanning her face for any sign of deception. But there was none. With a sigh, he leaned back and muttered, “Okay, as you say.”

For some reason, relief washed over him. He didn’t even realize how tense he had been until now. He had gotten his answer—Heain was no one special to Jungkook.

She wasn’t someone secretly close to him, someone he might have leaned on when his own brothers weren’t there. And for reasons Jin didn’t want to acknowledge, that realization made him breathe easier.

A heavy silence settled between them. Haein looked away, her face calm—too calm. Jin couldn’t tell what she was thinking.

And then, she broke the silence.

“Why did you leave Jungkook with your dad?”

Her voice was steady, but there was something beneath it—something unreadable. She didn’t even look at him when she asked, but Jin still felt the weight of the question pressing against him.

Jin frowned, caught off guard. “Because Dad asked us to leave him there. Jungkook had health issues at that time—he needed proper care. We thought… we thought leaving him in Italy with Dad would be the best for him. He would get the medical attention he needed.”

The moment he finished speaking, Haein finally turned to look at him.

Her gaze was unreadable, cold yet burning with something Jin couldn’t quite place. It wasn’t anger. It wasn’t sadness. But it made his stomach twist uncomfortably.

For the first time in a long time, Jin felt something foreign creeping into his chest—doubt.

Something about the way she looked at him made his heart pound in unease. It was as if she was silently screaming something at him, as if her eyes alone were asking—“Are you sure that was the reason?”

Jin swallowed.

Why did her gaze feel like an accusation? Like he had made some horrible mistake without even realizing it?

And why… did it feel like he was about to regret something he didn’t even understand yet?

“Mwo?” Jin blinked, completely thrown off by the sudden shift in conversation.

Haein sighed and shook her head as if she had expected this reaction. She looked away before speaking, her voice quieter this time.

“You love your brother, right?” She asked silently

Jin’s brows furrowed deeply. “Mwo? What kind of question is that? Of course, I love him! He’s my brother. I have all the love in the world for him.” His voice was sharp, laced with frustration. Why was she even questioning this?

Haein let out another sigh, her expression unreadable. “If you truly love him and care for him, then protect him. Be there for him and care for him . Don’t leave him alone. He was alone in that massive mansion in Italy.” She turned her gaze back to Jin, locking eyes with him. “Just… be with him. And don’t hurt him.”

Something about the way she said those words—so firm, so certain—made Jin’s breath hitch.

He stood up abruptly, his confusion turning into frustration. “Yah, what the hell are you even saying?” His voice was louder than he intended.

What did she mean by all this? Why was she acting as if he had already failed Jungkook?

‘Protect him. Care for him. Don’t leave him. Don’t hurt him Don’t leave him alone.’

Why did those words feel like a responsibility heavier than he had ever realized?

And then—

“He was always alone.”

That single sentence sent a strange, painful pang through Jin’s chest.

He opened his mouth to say something, to refute it, but nothing came out. For some reason, he felt… guilty.

Jin had always believed that leaving Jungkook in Italy was the right choice. He had convinced himself that it was for his own good—that their father would take care of him better than they could.

But now, hearing Haein say it so bluntly—”He was alone”—it made something inside him crack.

Had Jungkook really been that lonely?

Had they truly left him all by himself?

And if they had… could he ever make it right?

And that was those questions he thought. He was frustrated and tensed and worried at the same time. He Open his mouth to speak. But stopped when haein spoke.

“Don’t start again, please… I just said that to be with him because he was alone in the mansion, okay? Nothing else,” Haein said firmly.

Jin was breathing a bit heavily, his heart pounding like crazy after hearing Haein’s words.

“H-He was alone? No one was there for him?” Jin asked, his voice shaky.

Haein looked into Jin’s eyes and noticed the pure worry in them. She sighed before nodding lightly. “I’ve seen him alone in the mansion. Your dad was there, but most of the time, he was out of the city. So Jungkook was raised mostly around the maids,” she said, carefully covering up any extra details.

Jin swallowed hard. “Oh… nae,” he murmured, finally feeling a slight sense of relief. But deep inside, an unsettling guilt settled in his chest.

“We are here for him. We will protect him no matter what, and he will never be alone again,” Jin said firmly.

Haein glanced at him, a small, unnoticed smile forming on her lips. She didn’t let Jin see it, but inside, she finally felt assured—Jin truly cared for Jungkook. She could now see how much love and concern he held for his younger brother. It also became clear to her that Jin and the others knew nothing about what Jungkook had truly been through.

Jin had always believed that Jungkook was fine, that he was living well. But after witnessing the depth of Jin’s love and concern, Haein finally understood why Hyunwoo had once told her, “I’m scared for Jin when he finds out the truth.”

With a sigh, she gathered her things and stood up. “Okay. I’ll leave now,” she said.

Jin hummed in response, still lost in thought.

As Haein walked out, she saw Yoongi and Namjoon waiting outside. They both smiled at her.

“I’ll leave now,” she said with a slight smile.

“Nae, bye noona,” Yoongi and Namjoon said warmly, bidding her farewell.

She returned their smiles before walking away, her heart feeling heavier than before.

Yoongi and Namjoon stepped inside and saw Jin packing up his things.

“Hyung?” Yoongi called out.

Jin sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Haein just knew him, that’s it. She isn’t close with Jungkook… she just comforted him, that’s all,” he muttered, still deep in thought.

Yoongi and Namjoon nodded in acknowledgment. After some silence jin spoke again.

“I don’t know how the fuck I’m going to handle Tae,” Jin admitted, his frustration evident in his voice.

“Hyung, just speak to him when he’s ready. Don’t rush it,” Namjoon advised gently. “He’ll understand. Just don’t be harsh with him. Same for you, Yoongi hyung.”

Both Jin and Yoongi hummed in response.

“My Chim cried hard today,” Yoongi sighed, his voice heavy with guilt. “Appa said Jimin isn’t even talking to him. He spent over an hour trying to console him, but Jimin’s really angry at me and appa.”

“Just talk to him softly, Yoongs,” Jin said, glancing at him.

“First, you do that,” Namjoon pointed out. “You literally slapped Tae yesterday.”

Jin exhaled sharply, rubbing his temple. “I… I’ll try.”

Namjoon, trying to lighten the mood, said, “Haein noona seems nice.”

Yoongi hummed in agreement, but Jin remained silent, his mind replaying her words.

“Protect him… don’t leave him… don’t hurt him… be there for him…”

His brows furrowed slightly. Is this a clue? he wondered. But with a sigh, he brushed the thought aside.

Soon, they all left for their respective places.

Jin drove back to the mansion, his mind heavy with thoughts.

With Hae-in

Haein was driving her car, her thoughts clouded with frustration.

“Why the fuck is he so envious? Will he really protect Kook? He seems like he will… but Kim will never allow that. Kim just gives orders, and Jin follows them anyway. No matter what… but if he or his brothers ever hurt Kook, then they’re done. I just hope they truly protect and love him. I just want Kooie’s happiness. But… by seeing his eyes filled with worry and concern when I said kookie was alone there… he seem like he will protect him, I wll be happy if he just takes care of Jungkook well”

She let out a sigh as she pulled into the parking lot of Bangtan’s other branch, the one managed by Hyunwoo and Yoonseong. After turning off the engine, she got out and made her way into the building, walking straight toward the chairman’s office.

Without knocking or waiting for permission, she pushed the door open and walked in. Inside, Hyunwoo and Yoonseong were deep in conversation. Hyunwoo visibly gulped upon seeing her, while Kim merely smirked.

“Oh, Haein-ah,” Kim said smoothly. “Why are you here?” he asked, his tone laced with amusement.

Haein glared at him, walking over and sitting in front of him like a boss. Her expression was cold, her voice sharp with bitterness, “May I know the real reason behind Jungkook’s revelation? Is it for business, or do you have some other plans?” she asked, her words dripping with sarcasm.

“Ummm, maybe for business,” Kim said, smirking.

Haein glared at him. “Don’t even call yourself a father. You’ve literally put your son’s life in question now. You already ruined his life by dragging him into the mafia, and now into business. I don’t even fucking know why Jungkook loves you like this. He abandoned me and Eunwoo for you!” Her voice was filled with frustration. “I don’t get it. Did he happily go with you to the event, even?” she asked, her tone laced with bitterness.

Mr. Kim smirked proudly. “Yeah, of course. My son loves me a lot, and I love him too,” he said, leaning back in his chair. “Besides, he’s not even arguing with me about the reveal. So why the fuck is everyone questioning me? First my son, now you. Huff,” he scoffed, clearly annoyed.

“You’re going to regret this, Kim,” Haein said through gritted teeth.

Kim chuckled mockingly. “What am I going to regret, huh? You’re the one regretting for no reason. My Jungkook—he himself said he doesn’t want to live with you and Eunwoo. He’s with me because he wants to be. Get that in your head. He hates you and Eunwoo to the core. And of course, your dear brother hates my son too.” He leaned forward, his smirk widening.

He continue “Guess what? My son is happy with me. He isn’t throwing tantrums or complaining. And as for guilt or regret?” He scoffed. “I feel nothing. I don’t think I ever will regret anything in the future either. So stop your bullshit.”

Haein’s fists clenched at her sides, her eyes blazing with fury. “I don’t know what you did to make Jungkook hate me and Eunwoo, and I don’t know why the fuck he believes you—but one thing I do know…. He’s not happy. I know my Kook. He’s suffering every single day. He’s living in hell—and that too, with the devil himself.” She took a step closer, her voice unwavering.

“You can say all you want—that he’s happy, that he loves you—but I don’t believe a single word of it. And listen to me carefully, Kim.” Her voice was deadly calm now. “If anything happens to my Kook, you’re done. I will take him away, with or without his or your or his brother’s permission. You might think you control everything, but you do not control me. So be very careful. Protect him. Don’t make me give you a reason to truly regret.”

Without waiting for a reply, she turned and stormed out of the cabin, slamming the door behind her.

Kim smirked, leaning back in his chair. “She still cares for him… Let’s see how long that lasts,” he muttered bitterly.

Hyunwoo, who had remained silent, let out a frustrated sigh. He was beyond furious with Kim, but he had no choice but to continue their discussion. His anger, however, simmered beneath the surface, ready to explode at any moment.
