Chapter 6

After closing the door behind him, Jungkook plopped down on the bed, feeling utterly exhausted. “Taehyung,” he muttered, finally pronouncing the name correctly. “Taehyung… why the fuck did they have to name him that? Even his name has the word ‘hyung’ in it. It’s like I’m supposed to call him ‘Tae-brother.’ Why the hell should I call him that? Just another fucking reminder of how much I don’t belong here.” His voice dripped with bitterness as he continued, “These men are so good at showing fake concern and love. They deserve an Oscar.” He scoffed at the absurdity of it all.

“‘Missed you,'” he mocked, the words tasting bitter on his tongue. “Missed you, my foot. They say they missed me, but why didn’t they make a single call? Not one visit. Where were they when I cried out for love and comfort? Nowhere, that’s where. So why the fuck are they saying they missed me?” His anger and hurt mingled, twisting his perception of his family’s actions as nothing more than fake gestures.

He stared blankly at the wall for a few moments before pulling out his phone. He opened the photo—the same one he’d seen before entering his room. “That was my mom, right?” he mumbled, his eyes scanning the image as if searching for something familiar, something comforting. But after a few minutes, he turned off the phone, unable to reconcile the image with the woman he barely remembered. “Even she doesn’t deserve to be called ‘mom.’ Just like her sons… I hate them all. I hate this fucking world,” he muttered, the bitterness in his voice growing thicker.

Jungkook headed to the bathroom and stripped off his shirt, revealing a torso marred by cuts, scars, and burn marks. A bandage was wrapped around his shoulder, a fresh bruise hidden beneath it. He winced as he removed the bandage, recalling how he’d gotten the injury during a reckless ride on his bike, followed by a hard slap from his so-called dad. After taking a bath, he carefully applied ointment to the wound and rewrapped it with a fresh bandage.

Dressed in a black hoodie and sweatpants, Jungkook searched for a hair dryer but couldn’t find one. Frustrated, he let out a sigh and stepped out of his room, only to be met with the sight of his father, Kim, holding Taehyung in a loving embrace. The way his father touched and spoke to his brothers, full of affection and care, stirred something dark within Jungkook—jealousy, a longing he despised.

“Oh, Kookie, you’re here. Come on, let’s eat,” Jin said, wrapping an arm around Jungkook’s shoulder. Jin noticed the wetness in Jungkook’s hair. “Didn’t you dry your hair, Kookie?” he asked, his voice gentle.

“Yeah, there’s no dryer in the room,” Jungkook replied.

“Oh, wait, let me bring mine,” Jin offered. Jungkook nodded, and Jin left. Jungkook stood there, watching as his father caressed his cousin Jimin’s cheek. It triggered a painful memory of when Kim had slapped him hard for merely expressing an opinion. Anger surged through him, and he clenched his jaw and fists tightly, trying to suppress the rising fury.

“Here, Kookie. After you dry your hair, come for dinner,” Jin said, handing him the dryer. Jungkook gave a slight nod and went back to dry his hair.

Once he was done, he headed to the dining hall. Everyone was there, waiting for him—a new experience for him. No one had ever waited for him before. He took a seat between Mr. Kim and Taehyung.

They started eating.

“You like it?” Jimin asked, his voice gentle.

Jungkook nodded. “Who cooked?” he asked, expecting one of the maids to step forward.

“Jin hyung and Yoongi hyung made it,” Jimin replied.

Jungkook nodded again, deep in thought. “The taste… it feels so familiar,” he thought to himself.

“Here, eat some more,” Taehyung said, placing a few meatballs into Jungkook’s bowl. Jungkook nodded in acknowledgment and ate in silence.

“My bear became more mature these days, huh?” Kim asked gently. Taehyung blushed in embarrassment.

“Aniyo,” Taehyung stammered, but Jin cut in, laughing.

“Yes, Dad, he is. And I think you’ll see him become even more mature in the future,” Jin teased, causing everyone to laugh—everyone except Jungkook.

For Jungkook, it was all brand new. It was his first time being at a dinner filled with laughter and a charming atmosphere, even though he had similar memories with his family. Now, though, he felt left out. He was alone. He don’t have his family anymore, only the memories remained.

After eating, Jungkook stood up, turning to leave, but stopped when Taehyung called him. “Kookie, where are you going?”

“To my room,” Jungkook replied.

“You didn’t eat much, Kookie. Eat some more before you go,” Yoongi insisted.

“No, I’m full,” Jungkook replied curtly.

“Full? You only had a few bites,” Hoseok said, concerned.

“I said I don’t want to eat more. I’m full, and I’m tired. I want to sleep,” Jungkook insisted, his tone growing sharper.

“But Kookie, you didn’t eat much—” Taehyung began, but Jin cut him off.

“It’s okay, Kookie. You must be tired. Go on and get some rest,” Jin said gently, with a smile. Jungkook nodded and left for his room, not glancing at anyone as he exited.

Kim sighed, rubbing his temples. “This boy… I’m sorry for him. He always eats so little and never listens to anyone.”

“It’s okay, Dad. It’s common to lose appetite at dinner,” Jin said with a smile, though it was a lie. Kim smiled too, though his eyes remained troubled.

“I’m so blessed to have you all as my sons,” Kim said emotionally. The others smiled back, and the meal resumed, though the atmosphere was tinged with tension.

—

Meanwhile, in Jungkook’s room, he lay down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling, his mind a storm of conflicting emotions.

“I hate them,” he whispered to himself, his voice barely audible in the quiet room. “Why the fuck are they showing this fake love and care? Do they really think I’ll trust their acts? No. Never. I’ll never. I know they still hate me. They’re just pretending. Who truly loves me? No one. No one in this world. I hate this shit. I just want to disappear,” he mumbled, despair coating his voice.

He took out his phone and read a message from Hyun-Woo. “Take your tablets after dinner. Rest properly. Don’t stress over anything. Behave with your dad and hyungs,” the message read. Jungkook typed a brief “Okay” in response and turned off his phone.

Lying in the dark, he stared at the ceiling, lost in thought. Suddenly, he sat up and reached for the memory box he had brought with him. He took out a photo—the same woman he had seen in the frame downstairs. “So, you’re my mom, right? You were in that photo too,” he said bitterly, his voice filled with resentment. “You know, I hate you. I hate your sons, Dad, all of you. I don’t like being here. I just want to disappear from this world. But why the fuck can’t I? I can’t die, and I can’t live,” he murmured, his voice breaking.

A sharp pain shot through his head, and he clutched it tightly, whimpering softly. With shaky hands, he grabbed the box of painkillers, taking two more pills. He lay back down, clutching his head as the pain slowly subsided. Finally, he closed his eyes, trying to block out the world, the pain, and the overwhelming despair that had taken root deep within him.

After a few minutes, the pain dulled to a throb. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He drank some water, gulping it down in an attempt to steady his nerves. “Why the hell is this pain coming on so suddenly? And these fucking illusions,” he muttered, frustration lacing his voice as he tugged at his hair in agitation. Suddenly, something came to mind, and he quickly pulled out his laptop. “Holy shit! I have to submit this in two days, and I haven’t even started,” he grumbled, panic rising as he realized the looming deadline.

Immersed in his work, Jungkook barely noticed the passage of time until his phone rang, interrupting his concentration. Without checking the caller ID, he answered, “Hello?”

“Jungkook-ah, how are you feeling?” It was Hyun-Woo.

“Yeah, fine, Uncle,” Jungkook replied, still typing on his laptop.

“Did you take your medicine?” Hyun-Woo asked.

“Mm-hmm,” Jungkook hummed in response.

“What are you doing?” Hyun-Woo inquired.

“Assignment. When do I need to submit it? Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow?” Jungkook asked, his focus still on his laptop.

“What? Jungkook, I told you to

rest. The assignment isn’t that important. I’ll help you with it. Now go and sleep, okay?” Hyun-Woo said, concern evident in his voice.

“You know about him. So why? Just tell me when I need to submit it,” Jungkook repeated, his frustration seeping through.

“Day after tomorrow,” Hyun-Woo replied with a sigh.

Jungkook just hummed in response. Hyun-Woo hesitated. “Do you… like it there?” he asked cautiously.

“What do you expect? A yes? If so, then my answer is yes, I like the atmosphere—but not the people. I hate them all, and they also, just like Dad,” Jungkook said bitterly.

“No, Kookie, they love you a lot. They care about you. They don’t hate you—” Hyun-Woo started, but Jungkook cut him off. “I’m hanging up now.”

Hyun-Woo sighed, knowing Jungkook wouldn’t listen to him. “Take care, get some rest,” he urged before the call ended. Jungkook resumed his work, the conversation already slipping from his mind.

With the Family

After dinner, the family gathered in the living room, enjoying a rare moment of togetherness.

“My son, you should eat properly. Look at you, so lean,” Kim said to Jimin, who was lying with his head in his father’s lap.

“Nae, appa. Tell him—he always skips meals,” tae teased, shooting a playful glare at Jimin.

“Jimin-ah, from now on, I don’t want to hear that you’re skipping meals, understood?” Kim said sternly.

“Nae, Uncle,” Jimin replied obediently, earning chuckles from the others.

“Okay, we’ll take our leave now,” Yoongi said, standing up with Jimin.

“Nae, sons, go safely,” Kim said with a smile.

“We’ll leave too,” Hoseok and Namjoon said as they stood.

“Nae, kids, go and rest properly. And drive safely,” Kim said. They all nodded and left.

“Appa, you should go and sleep. It’s already late, and you must be tired,” Jin said.

“Nae, son, I will. You two go sleep as well,” Kim replied before heading off to bed.

Jin went over to Taehyung, who was sitting on the couch. He wrapped an arm around him and asked, “Happy, Tae?”

“Nae, soooo happy,” Taehyung replied with a bright smile. Seeing his brother’s happiness, Jin smiled too.

“But he’s so quiet, right, hyungie?” Taehyung asked suddenly.

“Yeah, he is. Maybe he’s still not comfortable here, but don’t worry—we’ll make him feel at home,” Jin reassured him.

Tae nodded, smiling. “By the way, he looks like you, hyungie.”

“Yeah, Yoongi and Joonie said that too. And he’s also cute and handsome, just like me, you know,” Jin said, flipping his hair playfully.

Tae chuckled. “Nae, nae.”

“hyungie do you think jungkook will be comfortable around us?’ tae asked suddenly, making jin to pause, jin hesitated, ” h-he will be tae, even if he is not, we will make him comfortble hmm?”, tae nodded.

“kim yoon-seong, i will protect my brother, even if you show his true color dont worry i’m here i will not leave you to harm us” he thought to himself

—

Jimin was sleeping in the car and yoongi was drivng , yoongi looked at him and caressed his hair. he sighed, “i’ll never leave that beast to harm any of us, i’ll never forgive him for doing that with my hyung”  he thought to himself

—

“Joonie, do you think he’s changed?” Hobi asked.

“Um… I’d say yes. He’s changed a lot—into a beast, but the beast is calm and acting like he loves and cares for us,” Namjoon said sarcastically.
