Chapter 84

It was midnight, and Jungkook and Jin were sleeping peacefully. Jungkook was back-facing and sleeping, and Jin, he was sleeping while having his arm tucked back at his head. They were peacefully sleeping, but the peace didn’t last long.

Jungkook whimpered in his sleep, his brows were furrowed, sweat forming on his head and neck. He was getting a nightmare again. “E.. eomma… Hy.. hyungie,” he mumbled in his sleep,  his eyes opened with a flinch, his eyes wide, he was breathing heavily, “e.. eomma,” he whispered the broken words. His hands were trembling, his eyes were already pouring the tears. He gulped, still breathing heavily. He looked terrified and frightened.

He gulped the sob which threatened to come, he turned and saw Jin there sleeping peacefully, he let out a shaky breath and sat up, his whole body was shivering, his head throbbed.

He looked at the side table, he extended his hand to take the glass of water so he can calm a little, he held the glass with his trembling hands, he took it but his trembling hands weren’t supporting, it fell down, making the loud shattering sound. Jungkook flinched hard at it, he held the duvet tightly and dhis eyes shut tightly, his breathing got more heavy, it all happened in a second.

Meanwhile, Jin was jolted awake when he heard the sound. All alarmed, he looked around and saw Jungkook there, trembling and frightened. Jin was quick to get up. “Jungkook-ah,” he called out, his voice filled with worry and panic.

Jungkook just flinched again. Jin turned on the lights, and there he saw the vulnerable state of Jungkook, breathing heavily and tears flowing from his shut eyes. Jin’s heart clenched at the sight.

“Kook, hey,” Jin said and was quick enough to take him in his embrace. Jin started rubbing his back. “Hey, hey, what happened, baby? You’re fine, just breathe, don’t panic. I’m here… I’m with you, you are safe,” Jin said, trying to soothe the boy.

But Jungkook didn’t say anything, just kept trembling in Jin’s hold. Jungkook clutched Jin’s shirt hem tightly. Jin heard a faint mumble from Jungkook. “E.. eo.. eomma…” It was so broken. Jin’s eyes glistened at the broken state of Jungkook, of his younger brother.

Jin made himself composed and soothed the boy “Shh… she is with you only, don’t worry, just calm down. I’m with you. Nothing is happening. She is right with you. Don’t cry and don’t panic, please,” Jin said softly. His eyes glistening with tears by seeing the younger one’s state.

Jungkook didn’t say anything, he just stayed silent. Jin kept whispering soothing words into his ears while patting him. Soon enough, Jungkook calmed down, but he was still frightened, as always.

It was Jungkook’s state…. whenever he woke from his nightmares, he would either cry himself to sleep or try to calm himself by taking those harmful medicine. But now, he had his hyung to wipe his tears and calm him. Not those freaking meds which left him weak all day.

When he tried to calm himself, it wasn’t an easy task. But now, his hyung calmed him, something no one had ever done for him before during those nightmares.
Because of Jin, he calmed down very soon than before.

Is this what they call the comfort and warmth only a family can give? The kind of comfort no one else, not a friend, not a stranger, can ever offer?

Is this what it means to be comforted when you’re at your worst, when you’re trembling in the dark, drenched in sweat and fear, and all you crave is someone to tell you you’re safe?

Perhaps this is what Jungkook had longed for all along. Not grand gestures. Not empty reassurances. Just this, his hyung’s arms that held no questions, a person who didn’t demand explanations, just whispered, “You’re not alone.”

Jin broke the hug, he cupped Jungkook’s face and asked softly, “Do you want water, Kook?” He asked so softly while wiping the tears. Jungkook hesitated and nodded silently. Jin nodded and stood up, he saw the mess, and said, “I’ll be right back, hmm?” Jin said softly. Jungkook just nodded, and Jin left.

Jungkook just sat there trying to even his breaths. Soon Jin came with the glass of water, he handed it to Jungkook but saw his trembling hand. Jungkook took it, but Jin supported him to drink it. Jungkook drank it fully like he was soooo thirsty.

Jin kept the glass away and said softly, “Lie down, I’ll clean this,” Jin said and made Jungkook lie down. Jungkook didn’t throw tantrums, he just did as Jin said. Jin cleaned the mess. He was careful with the glass.

Once he was done, he sat beside Jungkook, he caressed Jungkook’s sweat-damp hair. “Nightmare?” he asked softly. Jungkook didn’t answer, he just looked away.

Jin sighed and said, “Okay then, sleep. Let’s speak tomorrow, hmm?” Jin said. Jungkook shook his head, not wanting to sleep. “Why?” Jin asked. Jungkook kept silent, not wanting to tell him the reason.

But Jin understood his silence, he didn’t say anything, he just turned off the lights and lay beside Jungkook. Jin started patting Jungkook’s chest just like he did when Jungkook was little.

A silent tear slipped from Jungkook’s eye, one that didn’t go unnoticed by Jin. But he didn’t stop him. Instead, Jin let out a quiet sigh and gently pulled Jungkook into his embrace, guiding the younger boy to rest his head on his chest.

Jin didn’t say anything. He didn’t need to. He just held him close, letting his warmth envelop Jungkook, letting the silence speak where words couldn’t.

Jungkook stayed still, quiet, his face buried against Jin’s chest, his small fist curled like a child seeking shelter. Jin kept stroking his hair, his other hand slowly patting his back in a soothing rhythm.

After a few long minutes, Jungkook finally whispered, his voice hoarse and broken, “I… I’m s-sorry…”

“Why?” Jin asked softly, barely above a whisper himself. Ju gkook whispered back “I… I d-disturbed yo—–“

But before he could finish, Jin wrapped his arms around him even tighter, cutting him off. “Don’t be,” he whispered, voice soft and comforting. “I know you’re breaking… just let it out, baby. Don’t hold it in. You’ve been carrying it since yesterday, haven’t you?”

Jin’s voice cracked a little at the end, but he didn’t let go.

That was it…. Jungkook broke down. He started crying, covering his face with his palms, sobbing hard in the arms of his brother. And Jin… he simply offered his shoulder, letting Jungkook cry. He didn’t say anything, just kept patting him, letting him release it all.

Jungkook cried in someone’s embrace after years. He was in too much pain, and he cried for all of it.

Jin just stayed silent. He always knew Jungkook was hurting, but he didn’t realize he was this broken. And now, seeing his little brother cry so helplessly shattered his heart completely.

Where was I… when he needed my shoulders to cry on? He suffered so much… and I wasn’t there.

As Jungkook trembled in his arms, Jin’s throat burned with guilt. He thought of all the times Jungkook had smiled at him which was rare but soft, tired smiles… those weren’t real happiness, were they? And those lies saying he was fine… All broke jin.

“How many nights has he cried alone like this? How many nightmares has he hidden from me, pretending to be okay?…. I should have seen his pain before….” He thought.

He held Jungkook tighter, as if to protect what little pieces were left of him.

Jin noticed the sobbing sounds growing quieter. He gently tightened his hold, wrapping the duvet around them, completely covering Jungkook in his embrace. Jungkook snuggled deeper into Jin’s arms, clinging onto him tightly, not wanting to let go. Still tears flowing.

Jin kept stroking Jungkook’s hair, whispering softly, “Kook-ah… your hyungie is with you now. You have my shoulders, baby… Hyungie is sorry that I came too late… You have us, Kook… My Kook is not going to be alone anymore… I promise.”

Jungkook, who was quietly listening, let out another tear, crying silently.

Jin placed a soft kiss on his brother’s head, still patting him gently to put him to sleep. After minutes, he finally saw Jungkook’s calm sleeping face, his breathing was no longer heavy, just normal… finally at peace, in his hyung’s arms.

Jin sighed in relief seeing the younger one resting. He stayed lyk that, lost in his thoughts. But soon enough he was also drifted to sleep. Both the brothers slept cuddling.

Next Morning

“Ahhh, Taeee!” Jimin’s whine echoed through the mansion.

It was Sunday, and as usual, all the brothers had gathered at the hous, it was their routine. Right now, Jimin and Taehyung were playing a video game on the TV, while Hobi and Namjoon watched the duo with done expressions.

Jin and Yoongi were in the kitchen, cooking breakfast, and our maknae was still asleep in his room.

“Hyung, did his fever go down?” Namjoon asked, entering the kitchen with Hobi.

“Mmm, it did,” Jin replied, focused on frying the chicken. “But he didn’t sleep well. He had a nightmare and cried for almost an hour.”

“Should we talk to him, hyung?”
Namjoon asked again.

“Maybe later. Let’s give him some time,” Jin said.

“First, let’s make his surroundings comfortable and soft. He’ll like that,” Hobi suggested.

Jin nodded. “Of course! We have our sunshine, and our house is going to shine bright anyways” Yoongi commented with a small smile.

Everyone chuckled, while Hobijust smiled. “Woah, hyungs, how much food are you making? It looks like a feast,” Namjoon said, staring at the dishes they made it was so many.

Jin and Yoongi just smiled, they heard yoongi saying “To lift the mood of a sad person food is the only remedies”. All agreed with a nod.  “I’ll help you guys,” Namjoon offered, stepping forward.

But the kitchen trio immediately shouted in unison, “No!” “You did enough last time,” Yoongi said with a deadpan look.

“Hyung, I only added a little more salt and sauce last time. It was just a small mistake,” Namjoon whined.

“It wasn’t a small mistake, Mr. Lawyer Namjoon. After tasting it, literally everyone puked,” Hobi said dramatically. Jin and Yoongi both nodded in agreement.

“Yahhh!” Namjoon groaned, earning laughter from the others. With a sigh, Namjoon gave up and opened the fridge. He took out a milk packet.

“I’ll just drink some milk instead of arguing with you all,” he muttered, trying to open it, only to spill all of it onto the floor.

All of them slapped their foreheads iin disbelief “Yahhh! You’re dead meat today, Namjoonahhh!” Jin yelled.

“Hehe, sorry! I’ll clean it, bro, so cool down,” Namjoon said, backing awag but before he could do anything, he was pulled out of the kitchen by Hobi.

“Your presence in the kitchen is a mess in itself, Joonie,” Hobi muttered. Namjoon scratched his head sheepishly and let himself be dragged out.

Namjoon and Hobi soon joined Taehyung and Jimin, who were still playing together. The atmosphere was peaceful, yet chaotic in the most comforting way.

“Jungkook-ah!” Taehyung called out when he saw Jungkook coming down the stairs, freshly showered and looking much better than yesterday.

Jungkook quietly walked over and sat on the couch beside hobi. “You feeling good today?” Hobi asked gently, caressing Jungkook’s hair.

“Hmm, good,” Jungkook replied, his voice calm and normal.

“You look good today. You don’t look tired. Are you feeling any pain?” Namjoon asked, his tone soft but concerned.

“Ani… I’m good,” Jungkook said with a small smile.

To tell the truth, Jungkook really was feeling better. No headache, no pain, no stress, no sadness, just normal. The air around him felt so peaceful today, and he sincerely hoped it would stay that way. Last night’s crying had helped. He didn’t feel the weight in his heart which he always felt.

But deep inside, he still felt a bit nervous. A part of him feared they might ask about what happened the previous night. He hoped they wouldn’t.

He came out of his thoughts when Jimin called him “Come on, let’s play, Kook! I’m sure you’re going to beat Tae just like I did. He’s been whining since morning about losing the game,” Jimin said as he passed a controller to Jungkook.

Jungkook nodded and took it. The game started, and once again, the house was filled with playful chaos.

“Ahhh, Jungkookahhh!” Taehyung whined as Jungkook defeated him once more. “Hehe, sorry hyungie. I’m sure you’ll win next time,” Jungkook said, pretending to be innocent.

Taehyung gave him a deadpan look. “You literally defeated me four times in a row, Misyer! Give me at least one win, na,” Taehyung fake cried, his voice laced with dramatic whining.

Jungkook burst into laughter, and Jimin laughed even harder. “Ahhh, look at you!” Jimin laughedwhile Taehyung continued whining exaggeratedly.

The house echoed with the cheerful sounds of the maknaes’ chaos.

Meanwhile, Yoongi and Jin had just finished cooking. They began arranging the food on the table, exchanging a smile as they watched the younger ones laughing and bickering.

Jin and Yoongi made their way to the living room and sat on the couch. Yoongi gently ruffled Jungkook’s hair.

“You okay? Feeling better?” he asked softly. Jungkook nodded, his big doe eyes shifting toward Jin when he spoke.

“You feel any headache?” Jin asked, his tone filled with concern. “Ani…” Jungkook mumbled, fiddling with his hands nervously.

“Is he going to ask about last night? Ahhh, please nooo!!” he panicked internally but didn’t show it.

“Good… Okay, guys, stop playing and come eat! I made all your favo——” Before Jin could even finish his sentence, Jimin, Hobi, Taehyung, and Namjoon were already on their feet and running to the dining room in a flash.

Jungkook looked at them with wide, confused eyes. Jin and Yoongi chuckled.

“So fast…” Jin muttered, not suprised. “Anyway, let’s go, Kook. I made all your favorites,” he said, smiling.

Jungkook nodded and followed them to the dining room. They all sat down. Jungkook took a seat between Taehyung and jimin.

As he looked over the dining table, his eyes widened clearly amused, it was filled with a lot of dishes.

He turned to Jin and asked, clearly impressed, “You and Yoongi hyung made all of this?” “Nae,” Jin replied with a warm smile.

“Is it a special day today or something?” Jungkook asked, looking around at everyone. “Ani, they just made it,” Taehyung said casually, chewing on a strawberry.

“You JUST made all this? Woahhh,” Jungkook said, still clearly amazed. Everyone chuckled at his reaction.

They began eating, the room filled with the clinking of utensils and cheerful chatter. They talked and laughed throughout the meal, and even Jungkook joined in at times. They all enjoyed the food, eating heartfully and without any rush.

Jungkook seemed genuinely happy, surrounded by his hyungs, who had created such a comforting and joyful atmosphere just for him.

They didn’t need to say it out loud, but their love and care for him showed clearly in their actions, in the food, in the laughter, in the quiet support they offered simply by being there.

Time Skips

It was evening, and everyone was gathered in the living room, playing cards.

“Ahhhh, hyung! You betrayed me again, hyunggg!” Taehyung whined loudly at Yoongi, who had once again tricked him in the game.

Everyone chuckled at the dramatic outburst. Taehyung huffed and folded his arms across his chest, sulking.

“Ahh, the baby is sulking again,” Namjoon commented with a grin. “I’m not a baby, hyungie!” Taehyung whined, pouting.

“Look, look! Just like a baby,” Jimin teased him, laughing. “Yahhhh, Jiminahhhh!” Taehyung whined, feeling utterly betrayed. He threw a pillow at Jimin, who dodged it while laughing.

Meanwhile, Jungkook who was sitting between Namjoon and Yoongi was laughing wholeheartedly at the chaos. Taehyung huffed again, still sulking.

“Aww, look at this baby! Sooo cute,” Hobi said as he cupped Taehyung’s cheeks affectionately.

Taehyung scoffed dramatically. “Ahhh, why are you all babying me again and again?! You guys littrally babyed me for almost 24 years already, Now we have our maknae! Go baby him! I’m not a baby, hyungs, he’s the baby!” he blurted out unconsciously.

Jungkook’s jaw dropped. “Ahhh, hyung! Why me?!” he whined. Everyone burst into laughter again.

“Aww, look at this baby whining now,” Namjoon said in an overly soft, playful tone. Jungkook flushed in embarrassment as the others joined in teasing him.

“Ahhh, hyungs! I’m not a baby, don’t baby me, na! I’m nineteen!” Jungkook whined.

“Ahhh, you’re literally nine years younger than me, Kook. You are my baby, for real,” Jin said, grinning wide.

Jungkook gave him a betrayed look, which only made everyone laugh harder. “Ahhh, look, look! Our baby is blushing,” Jin added teasingly.

Jungkook gave him a deadpan look, and the room erupted with even more laughter. And just like that, the house was once again filled with whines, laughter, and joyful chaos.

After a while of teasing Jungkook, Yoongi spoke up. “What about a movie time, guys?” “Okay!” Taehyung and Jimin said immediately.

“Alright then, to the cinema room!” Hobi said, getting up excitedly. Everyone headed there, while Jin and Yoongi went to prepare snacks.

The younger ones gathered in the cinema room, already arguing about the movie choice. “Fantasy!” Namjoon shouted. “No, horror!” Taehyung screamed.

“Ahhh, no way! Last time you guys literally gave me a heart attack!” Hobi said dramatically, clutching his chest.

Everyone chuckled. “ what about comedy movie?” Jimin suggested.

“Ahhh, no way! Let’s watch a horror movie, Jiminahhh!” Taehyung insisted, and once again the bickering began.

Meanwhile, Jungkook just sat quietly, watching the chaos like an amused audience member.

Soon, Jin and Yoongi entered with trays of snacks and popcorn.

“Ahhh, hyung! Finally, you came! These boys are making such a fuss about choosing a movie!” Hobi said, clearly relieved. The duo chuckled.

Yoongi settled down beside Jungkook on the couch. “Enjoyed the show, huh?” Yoongi asked nonchalantly.
Jungkook nodded, shaking his head. “Sooo chaotic.”

Jin hushed everyone and announced, “I already chose a movie, guys. We’re watching it, no more arguments.”

He then sat on the other couch as everyone else took their seats. When the movie started, the room buzzed with excitement.

“Woahhh, this movie? It released just yesterday!”

“Woahhh, good! We won, and Tae lost!” someone cheered playfully.

Taehyung groaned while the others laughed, and the room dimmed as the movie began, cozy and full of warmth.
