Chapter 24

I lay in the bed, my head spinning. I couldn’t open my eyes or hear clearly. But I could hear a faint beeping sound. I tried to move my hand, but it wouldn’t budge. My head hurt like crazy.

As I slowly started coming into the consciousness , the beeping sound got louder. I could hear voices, but they were still fuzzy. I was in pain and felt confused and dizzy.

As I slowly opened my eyes, the bright hospital lights pierced through my brain like a sharp knife. I winced, trying to raise my hand to shield my eyes, but it felt like stone, refusing to budge.

The voices around me grew louder, more urgent.

“Vani… Vani, are you awake?” My name was repeated, a chorus of concern. I tried to respond, but my voice was trapped, stuck in my parched throat.

When i see my family, tears well up in my eyes, a lump was formed in My throat.

I saw papa coming towards me.
Papa carees my head, mom on the other side carresing my cheek and ayanshi was holding my right hand.

” gudiya, akhir yeh saab hua kese bacha?” papa asked her voice filled with concern, and sadness which he was feeling for me watching me in this state

[ Doll, how does this even happen?]

” vani ko drink karne ki buri aadat lag Gai Hai papa” three heads were turn towards the owner of the voice

(“Papa, Vani has developed a bad habit of drinking.”)

[ Vani got a bad habit of drinking papa ]

” Maine khud dekha Hai papa bacche Bahar rah kar bigad jaate Hain believe me she was drunk aur usne apne aap ko chot pahuncha Di aur yah Dekho mere hath ko bhi” he show them his hand and it was bandaged.

( “Papa, I saw it myself. Children get spoiled when they live outside. Believe me-she was drunk. And she hurt herself. And look, even my hand.”)

“I am not your papa and I am saying this she won’t-” papa was cut off

” vani kya paras sach Kah Raha Hai?”
Maa asked. Is she seriously asking me this?

( “Vani, is Paras telling the truth?”)

” Divya ji aap kaisi baten kar rahi hai don’t you know your child”,
Papa said in my defence and turn his head towards me.

( “Divya ji, what kind of things are you saying? Don’t you know your own child?”)

” gudiya come with us to jaipur back.”
It wasn’t a req or question.

I should my head as I try to sit up and watching me struggle, papa and ayanshi help me sit up. I look anshi’s face it was red due to crying.
and then Papa’s face was also red because of crying?

” Papa I wasn’t drunk” I said with my low and broken voice. Paras was leaving against the door frame but as soon as he heard me he is stood straight panicked. he warn me through his eyes

” I was scared when Paras came in Randomly into my apartment–” I was cut off with a yell

” VANI!!” Paras yelled warning me.

Papa picked up a vase from the side table and throw at him, which he barely dodge

Mom and anshi shout seeing him like this.

” when my daughter is speaking with me, no one gets to interrupt and if you do that again I will make sure to–”
Papa was cut off by maa.

Maa warned him. It feels like they are hiding something. I never seen papa like this before.

Papa to kar To Kam His anger ignoring mom’s eyes which he never did before

” vani bolo” I flinched at his sudden tone.

[ Vani speak ]

I was about to speak and all attention was on me but when I caught a glimpse of him, he showed me his phone indicating if I speak another word he will–

My eyes widened in realisation

” I- I was scared papa. I thought, he is a theif, I tried self defence, but i got hurt instead.”

” are you sure, you are telling the truth vani?” dad asked as if he don’t believe me.

” ye.s dad.” I tried to sound as sure as i wasn’t. I just hope dad doesn’t notice the shiver in my voice

Its been four days, since i saw vani.
What the hell is she planning?

I knocked on her door a few times too, but she isn’t responding. Is she alive?

anyways i am already late for the office, i quickly get out of my apartment, and locked it.

I was about to go further when i see her coming, correction hoping and barely walking.

Her family was with her. They didn’t noticed me.

My brows furrows. My heart stops seeing her like this. My feet stops and as if they were declining to move.

Her skin pale, her foor fractured
Her hand have a bandage. What the f*ck happened.

” vani.” I said and they all looked at me.

” Nav beta tum yahan?” vani’s dad said looking at me in confusion.
He was looking stressed and that he normal when his daughter is…

I went towards him touched his feet then I touched vani’s mother’s feet.

” hanji.. kam ke silsle mai yahan hu. Aur vani aur mai sath mai kam krne ka soch rhe hai” I said. Vani didn’t even meet my eyes while i glanced towards her a few times. Akhir huya kya hai?

( “Yes… I’m here for work. And Vani and I are thinking of working together,” I said.Vani didn’t even meet my eyes, even though I glanced at her a few times. What has happened?)

” Achi baat hai” he said.

(“That’s a good thing,” he said.)

I looked at vani with concern in my eyes

” vani how does this happened?” I asked her. She met my gaze. Her eyes look like she is tired. Tired from life. No emotions, no feelings.
I waited for her answer , while we kept our eye contact until she spoke

“I am okay Mr Brar. Thanks for asking.” she said. Which indirectly means its non.of. your business. in capitals. She just wont stop this I know it for sure.

( “As if She’d ever give a straight answer-but no, how would the arrogance survive then)

” papa can we go inside?” Vaani asked her father and her father nodded.

” Nav tum bhi ander aa jao baccha” he said and maybe I imagined aunty widening her eyes. I debated whether I should go or not? but uncle stood there for my answer so I just nodded and followed him inside.

( Nav you too come inside child )

As I entered the living room. I scanned the house, then I looked at vani, she was looking at me I didn’t budge. Soon she closed her eyes and turn her head in a different direction to avoid my gaze.

I have been in vani’s is house for 2 hours. She have gone to sleep. Ayanshi and her mother is inside with her, and I was sitting in the living room with uncle.

After enquiring with uncle about what happened I got to know that VANI HAVE A FIANCE.
Wow. And i didn’t knew this before.

And that fuck€r visited her, and she got scared. But the question is Why the hell she get scared? What he did? Did he did something inappropriate?

She said, that she thought he was a thief but, something is off.

” Ajeeb lag raha hai na?” I get out of my thoughts and look that uncle my brow’s narrowed.

” apko bhi?” I question him and he slightly nodded. He took a deep sigh and continued

” Nav, vani is not ready to come back with us she wants to live here but I don’t trust that fiance of her. Divya Ji Ne pata nahi usse Kyun chuna?” he said the last part in a whisper but i heard that.

” feelings are mutual uncle” I said an uncle raised his eyebrows.

” uncle I am here I will take care of her. ” ‘ and his fiance” I didn’t say the last part out loud.
