Chapter 15
Miley woke slowly, the dim light of morning spilling through her curtains.
Something felt… familiar. Not like yesterday, not like the day before, but like she had been here before, seen this exact scene countless times.
She lay there for a moment, listening to the quiet house.
The soft clatter of dishes downstairs, her parents moving as they always did, the faint hum of the refrigerator.
Everything was exactly as it should be-and yet, nothing felt right.
She pulled herself out of bed, choosing her skirt and sweater with deliberate care.
Today
She paused at the mirror longer than usual, brushing her hair slowly, studying her reflection.
There was nothing wrong with her face, nothing different-but the thought that something was off lingered behind her eyes.
Breakfast was the same.
Toast, tea, the calm rhythm of her parents’ quiet conversation.
Her father mentioned the basketball match .
Miley froze for just a second, a strange tickle of unease crawling up her spine.
That match hadn’t been yesterday. It had been… before.
She forced herself to sip her tea, nodding and murmuring.
She didn’t ask questions.
She couldn’t yet.
The walk to school felt heavier today.
Each step, each turn, seemed to echo in her mind.
Blackwood High appeared at the end of the street, solid and unchanging, yet she noticed every detail-the cracks in the pavement, the way the morning sun glinted off the windows, the faint smell of damp leaves in the air.
Near the notice board, Anya waved and began her usual chatter, but Miley barely listened. Her mind was elsewhere, following invisible threads.
Inside the classroom, Felix was already there. He looked up, smiled politely, and for the first time in what felt like forever, he remembered her.
“Hi, Miley,” he said casually.
She smiled faintly, her chest tight. “Hi,” she whispered, almost to herself.
The teacher arrived, calling the class to attention.
Today, a surprise quiz slid silently onto her desk.
The questions… they were exactly the same as before.
Miley froze. Her pen hovered over the page.
The words and numbers looked familiar, almost too familiar.
Her stomach twisted.
Her eyes flicked to Felix.
He seemed unbothered, writing without hesitation, unaware of the weight of repetition she carried.
A soft, incredulous laugh escaped her lips. “It’s… the same,” she whispered.
Felix glanced at her curiously.
“Same what?” he asked.
“The quiz,” she said, forcing herself to sound casual. “Don’t teachers give too many of them?”
He shrugged. “Just this one.”
Her fingers tightened around the pen.
This wasn’t “just a coincidence.” It had happened before.
So many times, now blurred together, but today it had hit her fully.
She finished the quiz mechanically, answering without much thought.
Then, when Felix left with his friends, she lingered, staring down at her desk.
That evening, back in her room, Miley sat on the edge of her bed, the dim light from her desk lamp spilling across her notebooks.
She pulled one close, opening to the first blank page, and wrote:
“October 13. Something is wrong.
The days…they repeat. I don’t know why, but I will write it down. I will not forget. I need proof.”
The words felt heavy, solid, real.
For the first time, she had a plan.
Not to stop whatever this was-not yet-but to remember it, to document it, to give herself something tangible in a world where time was no longer trustworthy.
She closed the diary gently, tucking the pen beside it.
Sleep would come soon enough, but tonight, she didn’t just close her eyes.
She thought.
She watched.
She remembered.
Tomorrow would move forward.
She would make sure of it.
