Chapter 4

A knock echoed from the front door at exactly 2:13 a.m.

Lena froze.

She lived alone, deep in the woods, miles from the nearest road.

Another knock.

Three slow taps.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Her phone buzzed with a notification. It was from her security camera app.

Motion detected: Backyard.

Her stomach dropped.

The camera showed a tall figure standing perfectly still behind her house, facing a window.

Then another notification appeared.

Motion detected: Front Door.

Lena switched cameras.

The front porch was empty.

A third notification arrived.

Motion detected: Bedroom.

Her blood turned cold.

She looked up from her phone and slowly turned toward her bedroom door.

It was slightly open.

She knew she had closed it.

The phone buzzed one final time.

A new camera feed opened automatically.

The image showed Lena standing in her living room, staring at her bedroom door.

The camera angle was from inside the bedroom.

And something was standing directly behind her.

The feed suddenly cut to black.

Then a message appeared on the screen:

“DON’T TURN AROUND.”

Lena felt warm breath touch the back of her neck.
