Chapter 109
Jin stood there in the doorway. Still. No expression. No tears. Just watching with hollow eyes as the paramedics rushed through the entrance with a stretcher, moving in fast, precise steps.
They reached Jungkook immediately. Hands checking, assessing, working. “Pulse is low. Severe cardiac episode. This is serious!” one paramedic called out.
Everyone felt their world tilt at once. Then the words that shattered the room completely “We are losing him.”
And Jin moved. He didn’t think. He didn’t hesitate. He ran crossed the room in seconds, dropped to his knees beside the stretcher, and reached through and took Jungkook’s hand directly from Kim’s grip. His eyes cut to Kim as he did it sharp and cold and full of everything he couldn’t say out loud in that moment.
Kim stepped back.
Jin turned back to his brother. He held Jungkook’s hand in both of his tight, firm, unwilling to let go.
“You will be fine,” he whispered. “Do you hear me? You will be fine.”
Tae and Jimin were already crying, tears falling silently, unable to stop. Namjoon stood just behind them, jaw tight, eyes burning, holding everything back with whatever strength he had left.
The paramedics lifted the stretcher and moved quickly toward the ambulance. Jin rose with them and didn’t let go of Jungkook’s hand. Not even a single second.
He climbed into the ambulance without a word to anyone. His eyes never left his brother’s face. The doors closed.
Tae, Jimin, and Namjoon moved immediately getting into the car, following without a moment’s delay.
And Kim, Kim sat slowly where he was. The tears had stopped. There was nothing on his face now. He just sat there in the silence of the empty mansion, alone, listening to the sound of the ambulance disappearing into the rain.
.
.
.
Inside the ambulance, the paramedics worked fast and quietly around Jungkook’s still body.
Jin held his hand the entire time. Tight and firm and steady, even as his own heart hammered violently against his ribs.
In the car behind them, Tae stared out the window with tear-streaked cheeks, Jimin’s hand gripping his arm. Namjoon drove, knuckles white on the wheel, eyes fixed ahead, blinking hard every few seconds.
“We are losing him.”
Four words. And they hit harder than anything else that had happened that night. Harder than the revelations, harder than the confrontations, harder than all the tears that had already been cried.
Because none of it mattered none of it if he wasn’t there at the end of it.
In the ambulance.
Jin held Jungkook’s hand the entire time. Never loosening his grip. Never looking away.
“You are fine…. Nothing is going to happen…. I am here.” He kept saying it quietly, steadily, like if he repeated it enough times it would become a wall between his brother and whatever was pulling him under. “Hyung is right here with you kook!”
Jungkook was completely limp. His chest rose and fell but so slowly. Too slowly. And his hand, inside Jin’s, was cold. Getting colder.
Jin felt it. He turned Jungkook’s hand over in both of his and rubbed it slow, firm strokes trying to push warmth back into fingers that didn’t want to hold it.
The paramedic leaned over and placed the oxygen mask over Jungkook’s face. It covered his face almost completely making him look smaller somehow. Younger. Like a child.
Then she reached for his sleeve and rolled it up to find a vein for the IV.
And there it was.
The scars. Pale and layered and old, running alongside fresher bruises that hadn’t even finished forming yet purple and deep and angry against his skin. The paramedic noted them quickly and professionally, moving on without pause, sliding the IV needle into his vein with practiced hands.
But Jin couldn’t move on.
He stared.
His stomach turned slow and nauseating and then the sadness that should have come didn’t come at all. What rose in its place was something else entirely. Anger. Quiet at first. Then burning.
Because it all made sense now. Every single piece of it, falling into place at once.
The very first day he had seen Jungkook after 12 freaking years, there had been scratches on his face. Jin had noticed. He had filed it away somewhere without letting himself look at it too closely.
Then there was the way Jungkook never showed his skin. Not once. Full sleeves on the hottest days of summer. Full trousers always. Never a short sleeve, never a rolled cuff, never anything that might let anyone see even an inch more than necessary.
Jin had noticed that too. He had just never let himself ask why.
And now he knew why.
He stared at those scars and those bruises and the cold, still hand lying in his, and the anger rose higher and higher until it sat like fire behind his ribs silent and absolute and burning with a clarity that grief alone could never produce.
Someone had done this to his little brother. And they had been doing it for a long, long time. And now he was sure, that person is going to suffer.
Suddenly the monitor beeped loudly, fastly. The nurse moved quickly. “God… we are losing him,” she said, grabbing the defibrillator. The other nurse rushed forward, cutting the hoodie off, and they gasped. Even Jin did.
The torso was covered with bruises.
And even that didn’t make them gasp as much as his chest did. It was turning slightly blue and purple. Jin felt his tears forming again when he saw those scars.
It was painful. Scary. And disgusting, really.
Suddenly, the monitor beeped loudly fast again, and then, a straight line appeared.
Jin felt Jungkook’s hand fall down limply.
The beep was loud and continuous.
He looked at the monitor.
The pulse line was flat.
Which meant….He lost his heartbeat. His little brother lost his heartbeat.
He died.
He was dead right now.
Jin looked at his brother’s chest. It no longer rose and fell It just… stopped. Jin sat there, shocked. The paramedic moved fast. She grabbed the defibrillator. “Move away,” she warned.
Jin pulled his hand back, watching his brother who was no longer breathing..“K… K-kookah…” he whispered..No response.
“100 joules… 1… 2… and charge,” she said, placing the defibrillator on his bare skin. The shock ran through his body.
Jungkook’s body jerked hard, .but no breath came.
“200 joules… come on, kid… 1… 2…” she said, placing it on his chest again.
His body jerked once more, lifting slightly before falling back limp. Jin watched his baby brother go still.
“300 joules… come on, little one… you can do it,” the paramedic said, trying again. Still no response.
She set the device aside and immediately started CPR. Her hands pressed hard against his chest. Making his whole body jerk with every push.
“Come on… you can do it… you can do it…” she kept repeating.
Jin sat there, unmoving. Tears fell as he looked at his brother. He promised him…. He fucking promised him to make him smile every day. But it seemed like he couldn’t.
Jin suddenly moved. He leaned down beside him and took Jungkook’s hands in his. “Kookah… come on, baby… I’m sorry, baby….. Kookah, look at hyungie please……. You can’t leave me like this… you can’t…” his voice cracked. And still no movement from jungkook. He was limp. Turning blue.
“I promised you… I promised to make you smile every day…… Your TaeTae is scared, baby… don’t leave us, please… we can’t lose you again… please….. Just come back… please…” jin spoke, voice loud, if he spoke loud, that may go into his brother’s ears. Maybe?
“Hyungie loves you soooo much baby…. Hyungie always loved his little brother more than anything…. Don’t leave hyungie please…..”
“I won’t let anything happen to you again… i promise… I promise, baby… Come back to hyungie… please…” Jin cried, his voice breaking completely.
“Please…..” Jin whispered crying while holding the cold and turning blue hand of his brother who was dead now. Even the paramedics teared up at his words.
The paramedic grabbed the defibrillator again. “500… 1… 2… and charge,” she said, placing the device on his chest. This time, Jungkook’s body jolted sharply, lifting slightly before falling back down.
She didn’t stop.
“Come on, kid… you can do it.” she whispered, her voice softer now, almost pleading, as she pressed the paddles again.
And then…..
Jungkook’s body reacted. A strong jolt ran through him. He gasped, loudly. A desperate, sudden breath. His body lifted and fell back, his eyes flying open for a brief second.
Jin felt it. A faint grip around his hand. Weak but there Alive. His little brother was alive again. He was back to life.
Jungkook’s eyes fluttered shut again.
The long, continuous beep began to break, into uneven sounds. And then it came. A heartbeat..Faint..Fragile..But there.
“He’s breathing… weak, but he’s breathing!” the paramedic said quickly. Panting in relief.
“Thanks… thank you… Kook… you’re with me… you’re still with me…” Jin cried, his voice trembling as he held Jungkook’s hand tightly. “I’m here, baby… I’m here…”
His tears fell onto Jungkook’s hand as he sobbed.
“My kook…. You are with hyungie…. You did it….” Jin cried.
Soon, they reached the hospital. Jungkook was rushed inside immediately. The doors burst open as the medical team took over.
The cardiac specialists arrived. Wooshik and Dr. Hwang were there.
The paramedic quickly explained everything that had happened in the ambulance, ast, precise medical terms filling the air.
But Jin didn’t hear a single word. Not one..His eyes were only on Jungkook..His hand still holding onto him,.as if letting go would take him away again.
“Pulse weak… low oxygen… poor blood circulation…” Wooshik muttered, scanning the monitors. “To the ICU!” Dr. Hwang ordered sharply.
They moved fast. Too fast. Jin followed instinctively until the ICU doors stopped him..His hand slipped from Jungkook’s. Reluctantly.
The doors shut right in front of him. And he stood there. Frozen. Silent. Jin swallowed hard, trying to hold back his tears. He looked through the glass.
Jungkook lay on the bed, small. Fragile. Wires being attached to his body. IV lines inserted. Machines surrounding him.
Jin couldn’t take it. He turned his face away. His body slowly slid down the wall. Until he was sitting on the cold floor. His hand.still stained with dried blood of Michael rested against his forehead.
“Please… please be fine, baby…” he whispered. His voice broke. Once again.
The strongest man was shattered.
His family rushed there. Hyunwoo. Yoongi. Namjoon. Hobi. Jimin. Tae. All of them. Except Kim.
They ran in, panic written all over their faces. Jin didn’t explain anything. He just sat there. Silent. Broken.
He could hear everything around him, Jimin crying softly..Yoongi pacing back and forth, restless. Namjoon handling the paperwork with trembling hands. Hobi speaking to the doctors, trying to stay composed.
Taehyung was silent. He sat there, just like Jin. Head leaned back against the wall. Eyes dry but shattered. Completely broken. Just praying. Quietly.
Hyunwoo stood nearby, doing the same, praying under his breath, calling doctors, trying to arrange the best possible treatment.
Minutes passed. Heavy. Slow. Painful. And then, Haein arrived. She rushed in, worry written all over her face. Her eyes scanned the scene.
Everyone was anxious. Moving. Breaking. Except, the two elder brothers.
Her gaze fell on Taehyung first. Sitting still on the chair. Head resting against the wall. Eyes empty. Tears dried long ago.
Then, she looked at Jin. And froze. It was her first time seeing him like this. Completely shattered. Crumbled.
Like he had nothing left inside him. Her own eyes filled with tears.
Yoongi glanced at her. No words were spoken. But they both understood. That silence, said everything.
Haein looked at Hyunwoo, who was still pacing while speaking urgently on the phone.
Then slowly, she walked forward. “Wh-what happened?” she asked, her voice trembling. Hobi answered her.
“He came home… he spoke with Kim… and then he just fainted…” Hobi said, struggling to keep his voice steady. “Severe cardiac episode… and… it just happened…” His voice broke at the end.
Haein looked at Jin again. He looked exhausted. His eyes, red. But no tears fell. Just numbness. But even that numbness, held unbearable pain.
Then she looked at Taehyung. The same Taehyung who was always smiling….always loud… always full of life. Now, he was still. Silent. Empty.
Like the shock hadn’t even left him yet.
Before she could do anything, Eunwoo came, drenched from the rain and panting for breath. Water was literally dripping from his hair as he stood there, shivering.
He looked at the scene. Everyone was staring at him except for Tae and Jin, but he could clearly see the faint tear tracks staining their faces.
His heart hammered against his ribs. He gulped, struggling to find his voice. Hyunwoo stepped forward before Haein. “Hey, Eunwoo… he’ll be fine. He’s going to be okay, hmm?”
Eunwoo shook his head weakly, tears finally spilling over. “H-he… he was trying to… He was trying to end his own l-life… He was standing on the 20th floor of the building… to… To kill himself. He is not fine!” he sobbed.
Hyunwoo felt the world tilt for a moment.
“Jungkook!” he cried out.
“Kook-ah… you can’t leave Appa like this. Look at me, please!” Kim’s desperate plea echoed through the hallway.
“I don’t want to live… Why the fuck did you save me?” Jungkook’s voice came through, cold and sharp.
The room fell into a horrified silence. Tae looked at him, and Jin’s gaze snapped toward his brother. Both of their hearts burned with the exact same agony: their little brother had tried to take his own life.
He had attempted suicide.
“He… he is not fine…” Eunwoo cried out. Haein couldn’t even find the words to comfort her own brother.
Eunwoo broke down completely. “It’s my fault… I blamed him. I abandoned him. It’s all my fault!”
Hyunwoo felt his own tears falling, but he tried to stay strong. He sat down and pulled Eunwoo into a tight embrace. “It’s… it’s not your fault, Eun. He will be okay…” Eunwoo shook his head violently. “H-he said he didn’t want to live. He kept trying to kill himself… and then… then he said he didn’t want anyone… anyone to call him a k-killer anymore. He said he wanted to abandon everyone by killing himself. He was in so much pain. He said it pained a lot…” Eunwoo wailed.
Tae’s jaw tightened anger and guilt maybe?. Unable to take another second of the suffocating grief, he turned and walked out of the ICU section, his pace fast and desperate.
Hyunwoo tried his best to console him, but he couldn’t. Minutes later, Eunwoo pulled back and looked at Hyunwoo.
“D-do you know that… that Kim ordered someone to kill eomma… to kill Hyesuk eomma…?” he asked. That question made Hyunwoo’s stomach churn.
“Wh-what are you—” he started, but stopped when Eunwoo took Jungkook’s phone and played the voice message again.
Everyone heard it. Every word. The whole truth. Haein gasped in shock, her hands beginning to tremble.
“H-he heard it… that’s why he went to meet Kim…” Eunwoo said, his voice breaking. “He trusted him… he kept saying his appa wouldn’t do that…”
Hyunwoo didn’t say anything. He just stared at the phone.
Meanwhile, Jin heard it too. And slowly, he stood up.
He walked toward Eunwoo and knelt in front of him. Gently, he took Eunwoo’s hand in his.
Eunwoo looked at him with teary eyes. “He will be fine, Eunwoo……” Jin said softly, his voice low and calm.
Eunwoo looked at him, tears slipping down. “He didn’t kill S-suho hyungie… don’t hate him, please…” Eunwoo said quietly, like a fragile plea.
Jin swallowed hard. Took a breath to compose himself “I know…” he said. “I won’t hate my little brother… not even for a second.” he said slowly, His voice was steady, even though he didn’t know the full truth yet.
But he knew one thing for sure. Jungkook could never kill anyone. There was things he should know before he blame his brother. And he will find those.
“But he… he said you all would hate him… and… and abandon him…” Eunwoo continued, crying. “He cried so much for all of you…”
Jin didn’t say anything. He just pulled Eunwoo into a gentle hug.“No one is going to abandon anyone…” Jin whispered. “He will be fine… I promise… he will be fine…”
It sounded like he was comforting Eunwoo. But deep down, he was trying to convince himself. “H-he is in pain… and… and I wasn’t there for him… I blamed him…” Eunwoo cried. “I hurt him… I made him feel guilty for nothing… he is broken… I… I am sorry…”
“It’s not your fault…” Jin whispered softly. Eunwoo kept crying. Until exhaustion took over. His body went weak, and he fainted in Jin’s arms. Jin felt it immediately. “Hobi… he… he fainted… and he’s burning…” Jin said..Hoseok quickly stepped in and took Eunwoo from him.
Haein followed right behind. They rushed him to another room. He needed rest. Jin didn’t say anything. He turned back toward the ICU.
And Jin didn’t say anything..He walked back to the ICU door. The glass was blurred now, but he could still see the movements inside.
Everyone was rushing around. Fast. He stood there for a moment. Then slowly, he walked back and sat on the chair. Leaning against it, he closed his eyes.
Minutes passed. Jin felt someone applying something to his wound. It stung. He slowly opened his eyes, only to see Haein cleaning it.
He didn’t say anything. He just closed his eyes again. Haein continued quietly.
“Was this what you said you would tell me today?” Jin asked, his eyes still closed. Haein hummed softly. “Mian…” she whispered. Jin didn’t respond. He just leaned against the wall.
Haein gently cleaned the dried blood from his hands as well. And he didn’t react. Didn’t hiss. Just kept his eyes closed. Calm. But being calm didn’t mean that he calmed. His anger was still there. He just didn’t let it show. All he needed now was to hear Jungkook was fine.
Meanwhile, Namjoon walked slowly, searching for Taehyung. He found him at the backyard of the hospital. Leaning against the railing. Smoking.
The faint light flickered and the smoke surrounded around him, the night air heavy and quiet. They all knew, Taehyung only smoked when he was deeply stressed.
And that… happened very rarely. Once or twice a year.
Namjoon sighed softly and walked toward him. He didn’t say anything. He just stood beside him. Taehyung didn’t look at him. Didn’t speak. He just took another drag.
After a moment, he removed the cigarette from his lips. “Hyung…” Tae spoke, his voice low. “I thought he was fine… I thought he was always happy…” He let out a bitter chuckle. “And… and… I thought he was just lonely in Italy… but still fine…”
His grip on the cigarette tightened. “But… my thoughts betrayed me again.” “Tae…” Namjoon started. But Taehyung cut him off.
“Don’t say everything will be fine when nothing is fine, hyung….” he said, his voice still steady. He was confident in his words. No hesitation. “We failed to protect our maknae… and that makes me feel disgusted.”
He took another drag. “It was our fault.” Silence.
Namjoon looked at him quietly. “Tae…” he said again, softer this time. “It wasn’t your fault. It wasn’t anyone’s fault for not noticing his pain.” Taehyung scoffed lightly. “Hyung, I noticed it…” he said, his voice breaking a little. “I asked him… I asked everyone…” He looked away.
“But later everyone said it was because of his loss…” His eyes turned distant. “But no one said it was because he was traumatized… that he was hurting that much… that he was depressed enough to try to end his own life…” His voice dropped to a whisper.
Namjoon stayed silent for a moment. Then he stepped a little closer. “Tae…” he said calmly “You didn’t ignore him….. You didn’t walk away…. You noticed something was wrong… and you tried to understand.” He paused.
“That already makes you different from someone who failed.” Taehyung didn’t respond. Namjoon continued, his voice steady. “We’re not gods, Tae… we can’t see everything someone is hiding inside.”
“Sometimes… people hide their pain so well that even they don’t know how to show it.” Taehyung’s grip on the cigarette loosened slightly.
“And Jungkook…” Namjoon continued, “he’s always been like that. He carries everything alone. Even when it hurts him.” He looked at Tae.
“What happened to him… wasn’t because you didn’t try…. It’s because he didn’t know how to let us in.” Silence fell again. “He didn’t fail us, Tae… and we didn’t fail him either,” Namjoon said softly. “We just… didn’t reach him in time.”
Taehyung’s eyes filled with tears. Namjoon’s voice softened even more. “But we’re here now….. And this time… we don’t look away.”
He placed a hand gently on Tae’s shoulder. “So don’t punish yourself for something you were already trying to fix.”
Taehyung lowered his gaze. His breathing calmer than before. Namjoon stayed beside him. Quiet. Steady. Just like always.
Tae took another cigarette to puff, but Namjoon stopped him, holding it back. Tae looked at him. Namjoon shook his head. “No.”
“Jin hyung needs you, Tae…” Namjoon said softly. Tae exhaled deeply..“I don’t know what to do, hyung… He’s broken right now… He won’t listen…” Tae said, his voice low..“I’m scared…” He looked away.
“Just go and sit with him… that’s enough, Tae…” Namjoon said calmly. Tae nodded. “And… and I… I won’t leave Kim… I won’t…” Tae said, his voice turning firm.
“He’s going to regret his actions. And whoever is behind everything that happened to Suho hyung and Jungkook… they’re going to face hell for sure.” “They will,” Namjoon said quietly.
Tae took a deep breath and started walking toward the ICU. Namjoon sighed and followed him.

Time passed. Everyone waited for the doctor to come. An hour had already passed Jin was still in the same position. Taehyung was pacing around, worried.
The door finally opened. Dr. Hwang stepped out. Everyone stood up immediately, eyes filled with anticipation. He lowered his mask. “He is stable now…” he said. Everyone finally felt relieved!
“He will be shifted to the general ward later.” Relief spread across their faces. But then, his tone changed. “And… to tell the truth, his condition was worse. His heart wasn’t pumping blood properly. He lacked a lot of oxygen, and the blood around his heart backflowed a lot. We had to put the tube in and take out the blood. We gave him blood through the iv!”
Silence fell again. They listened, frozen. “One person can stay with him in the general ward. When he wakes up, he may still feel tightness, he may feel little pain after waking and he will be on an oxygen mask.”
He paused slightly. “Only after he wakes up, we will know if he’s truly stable.” Dr. Hwang finished.
The doctor spoke again. “And… as his personal doctor for years… I need to say this.” They all looked at him..“He is suffering a lot.” His words hit harder this time. “Don’t give him this much stress again. He can’t bear it.” Silence deepened.
“He’s still the same young boy. He’s not strong enough to handle sudden shocks.” A pause. “He is very sensitive… and so is his heart.”
With that, Dr. Hwang walked away. No one spoke. No one moved. They just stood there, as guilt quietly settled over all of them.
