Chapter 110

An hour later.

They all entered the VIP room when Jungkook was admitted. And they saw him.

Jungkook lay on the bed still, pale, smaller than any of them had ever seen him look. Several wires ran from his chest to the monitor beside him. A bandage covered the left side of his chest not enormous, but large enough to make the stomach drop.

The oxygen mask covered most of his face. His right hand was neatly bandaged. His left had an IV line at the wrist and another at the inner arm. The monitor beeped slow and steady the only sound in the room.

His torso was bare, the blanket pulled up to just below his ribs. And that was when they saw it.

The scars. The marks. Fresh belt marks. Burn marks. Old ones layered beneath newer ones, telling a story that none of them had been allowed to read until now.

Everyone gasped. Everyone… except Jin and Hyunwoo.

Jin looked only at his brother’s face. At the slow rise and fall of his chest. At the fact that he was still breathing.

The others couldn’t look away from the marks. Hyunwoo lowered his head. Slowly. The guilt was written into every line of his posture.

Haein gasped a short, sharp sound her hand flying to her mouth.

Yoongi, who had always been the unshakeable one, felt the tears come before he could stop them. He didn’t wipe them. He just stood there, jaw tight, eyes burning.

Jimin who always cried first, who always felt everything loudest didn’t cry. The grief that should have come out as tears converted into something harder instead. His fists clenched at his sides. His jaw locked. The anger rose in him like a tide, and he held it there just barely.

Namjoon, who had stayed calm through every crisis, every storm, every moment that had broken everyone else around him looked at those marks and felt something shift inside him that had never shifted before. A cold, quiet fury. The kind that didn’t burn hot but cut clean. He wanted to find whoever had done this and kill them. Right now. That second.

Tae didn’t move. Didn’t blink. Didn’t cry. He just stood completely still, staring at his little brother lying in that bed, at the marks on the skin his brother had always kept hidden, always covered, always protected from every eye in every room. All this time. All this time and he hadn’t seen.

He doubted his eyes. Is it the same brother who cried for a small scratch and make the whole house upside down.

Hobi who was always the one steadying everyone else, always the first hand on a trembling shoulder, always the warmth in every cold moment stood completely unable to steady even himself.

And then Jin moved.

One step. Then another. Slow and deliberate, like every step forward was a decision made in full. He reached the bedside and pulled the chair close, sitting down right beside his brother. He reached out and carefully took Jungkook’s unbandaged hand the one with no IVs and pressed it gently between both of his palms.

He held it there. In his.

“You are fine,” he whispered. His voice was low and steady and certain in the way that only Jin’s voice could be like it refused to carry doubt even now. “You are here with me. You are still with me. And I am still with you.”

He pressed his lips softly against the back of his brother’s hand. A small, quiet kiss. Barely anything.

Then he just sat there. Looking at Jungkook’s face relaxed now, finally, the way it almost never was when he was awake. Still. Peaceful.

The face of someone who had carried more pain in silence than any of them had ever known. And Jin sat beside him and held his hand and did not look away.

“Samchoon…. Just one question.” Jin’s voice was quiet. Measured. He didn’t look up immediately just sat there with Jungkook’s hand held between his palms for a moment longer. Then he lifted his gaze to Hyunwoo. Hyunwoo gulped.

“Is it dad?” Three words. Spoken with complete, unshaking calm.

And that calmness…. that absolute stillness in Jin’s voice sent a chill through every single person in that room. Because they all knew. They had all grown up knowing. Kim Seokjin‘s anger sounded like raised voices and breaking things. But Kim Seokjin’s calm his real, deep, settled calm was the most frightening thing in the world.

Everyone turned to Hyunwoo. Hyunwoo held Jin’s gaze for as long as he could. Then he drew a slow breath.

And nodded. “Mian…..” he said. Barely above a whisper.

The room went silent. A sharp collective breath not quite a gasp, not quite words, just the sound of several people’s worlds shifting at once.

Because it didn’t make sense. It couldn’t make sense.

Kim loved Jungkook.

Everyone knew that. Kim Yoonseong who grew soft the moment his youngest walked into a room. Who had held that boy through nightmares and fevers and bad days. Who had cried, visibly, the night Jungkook was rushed to hospital. The man who was the most feared person in Korea became someone else entirely when it came to his youngest son.

He was the safest person in Jungkook’s world.

He was supposed to be the safest person in Jungkook’s world.

And yet.

Jin let out a single short laugh. Bitter and humourless and quiet the kind of sound that carried more pain than crying ever could. He pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, jaw shifting slightly.

Everyone saw it.

“For how many years,” Jin said. Still calm. Still cold. Not a question a demand.

Hyunwoo’s throat moved. “From eleven….” he said slowly. “It got…. g-got worse in the last four years.”

The silence that followed was a different kind of silence.

Everyone looked at Jungkook. At the marks on his skin. At the boy who had been just eleven years old when it started. Who had then spent the next several years becoming very, very good at making sure no one ever knew.

The most betrayed face in the room was Haein’s.

She stood completely still eyes fixed on Jungkook, expression frozen somewhere between disbelief and devastation. Because she believed. Genuinely, completely believed.

She had told herself that after that day it had stopped. That Kim had stopped. That Jungkook was happy. That he was the most happiest.

She had believed it because she needed to. And it had never been true.

Jin sat very still, processing everything. Then… “And you didn’t tell us,” he said. The bitterness bled through the calm now just slightly, just at the edges. “All this time. You knew. And you all just…..” he stopped himself. “You acted like everything was fine.”

“Jin—” Hyunwoo started. “Don’t.” One word. Final and absolute and carrying the full weight of everything Jin was not saying out loud.

Hyunwoo closed his mouth. The room stayed silent.

And then, slowly, a single tear ran down Hyunwoo’s face. He didn’t wipe it. He didn’t say anything. He just stood there and let it fall because there was nothing left to say that could undo any of it.

Doctor Hwang entered the room.

No one moved. No one spoke. The room stayed exactly as it was heavy and still as he walked through them like they were statues and made his way to Jungkook’s bedside.

He assessed quietly for a moment. Then, “I’ll give him a dose,” he said simply. Jin nodded once.

Dr. Hwang worked with practiced, unhurried hands. He drew the medicine carefully into the syringe and inserted it into the IV line. Then he prepared a second injection, filling it, gently cleaning the site with a sponge, inserting the needle with precision. Once done, he turned to the monitor and checked the vitals, eyes scanning steadily.

“Vitals are stable,” he said. “He’ll wake up in ten to twelve hours.” A brief pause. “Only one or two person can stay with him tonight.”

He left without another word.

The room stayed quiet for a moment longer. Then, slowly, Tae walked toward the bed. Everyone noticed. They gave space to the brothers. Without a word exchanged, one by one they began to move out of the room quietly, pulling the door gently behind them.

Until it was just the three of them. The three brothers. Alone.

Tae stood at the foot of the bed, looking at Jungkook. Still no tears. Just that same hollow, stunned stillness he had carried since he first walked into this room.

“Hyung,” he said quietly. Jin hummed in response, eyes still on Jungkook’s face. “He’ll be fine, right?”

A beat of silence.

“He will,” Jin said. Then, quieter, “He should.” Tae nodded slowly. He stood there for another moment, staring at his youngest brother’s still face.

“He will be,” he mumbled. Barely to anyone. Mostly to himself. “He will be fine….” Trying to make himself believe it by saying it out loud.

Jin heard it. Something tightened in his chest.

He slowly set Jungkook’s hand down gently, carefully and stood up. He reached over and took Tae’s hand in his.

Tae turned to look at him. And then he was in Jin’s arms.

He didn’t even feel himself move. One moment he was standing, the next he was there and that was enough. That single point of contact was enough to undo everything he had been holding rigid inside himself. His shoulders dropped. His whole body softened. He pressed his face into Jin’s shoulder and just stayed there.

“I’m scared,” Tae whispered a tear rolled down. “I don’t feel right. Everything is just…. It’s all a mess, hyung….”

Jin didn’t say anything. He just held him one hand patting his back in slow, steady strokes, the other moving gently through his hair. The same way he had always done. Since they were small. Since long before any of this.

Some things the body remembered even when words couldn’t.

“Appa….” Tae whispered after a moment. His voice dropped even lower. “I will kill him.” Another tearslipped down his face.

Just one. But the weight behind it was enormous.

Because this was Tae. The one who had always loved his father the loudest and the most openly. Kim Yoonseong had never been cruel to him strict, yes, cold sometimes, demanding always but never cruel. And Tae had built his image of his father around that. Strict but fair. Hard but present. Difficult to reach but never dangerous.

He had never in his life imagined those four words coming out of his own mouth.

It was always I love my appa. Always. Without question.

Not this. Never this.

“We trusted him….” Tae whispered. His voice cracked. “And…. And Suho hyungie….”

And that was where the last wall came down.

Tae started crying. Really crying everything he had been holding back since the moment he walked into this hospital room finally pouring out all at once. He pressed closer to Jin and just let it come.

Jin felt the urge rise in his own chest hot and immediate the tears pressing hard against the back of his eyes. He swallowed them down. Pressed his lips together. Closed his eyes for just a second.

He couldn’t. He just couldn’t.

“We were searching for him for years….” Tae sobbed quietly. “And all along he was already…. He was already….” He couldn’t finish it. He didn’t need to.

“Tae,” Jin said softly. “Stop crying, please…. You’re straining yourself.” Tae only cried harder.

Jin exhaled slowly. He gently broke the hug, guided Tae to the small couch against the wall, and sat him down. Then he knelt in front of him eye level and took both of his hands, rubbing them gently.

“Stop crying,” he said again. Quietly. Not harsh…. just firm. The way Jin had always been firm when someone he loved was hurting themselves with their own grief.

Tae looked at him through blurred eyes. And something in Jin’s face made him pause.

“You’re not okay, hyung,” Tae said. His voice small and certain at the same time.

Jin’s hands stilled.

“You’re trying to be fine,” Tae continued, tears still falling. “But you’re not. And it wasn’t your fault, hyung. None of this was your fault.”

Jin didn’t respond.

For a moment he just stayed there, kneeling, looking at his younger brother’s face. Then he let out a short, quiet sound not a laugh, not quite. Bitter and hollow and carrying everything he refused to say.

“Let’s talk about that later,” he said finally. He stood up.

Tae caught his hand. “What are you going to do?”

“Wait for Jungkook to wake up,” Jin said. Still calm. “He needs to be alright first. Everything else comes after that.”

“And appa?” Tae asked. His voice barely a whisper.

“Later, Tae-ya.” Jin’s voice was gentle but final. “First I want Kook to open his eyes. That’s all that matters right now.”

He squeezed Tae’s hand once. Then let go, and walked out of the room quietly, the door closing behind him with a soft click.

Tae sat alone in the dim room. He buried his face in his palms. “He’s not fine,” he mumbled to himself, tears soaking into his hands. “He’s not fine at all….”

The monitor beeped on steadily beside Jungkook’s bed.

And outside in the corridor Jin stood with his back against the wall, head tilted up toward the ceiling, eyes closed.

Holding everything in. The way he always had. The way he always did.

After minutes, Jin walked. The corridor was quiet. Then he saw him Yoongi, sitting on the waiting chair, elbows on his knees, face buried in both hands.

“Yoongi-ah.”

Yoongi looked up immediately. His eyes were red. Swollen. He had been crying..

“Hyung…” he said quietly.

Jin looked at him for a moment. Then steady, clear, no wasted words. “Hack into the Shadow’s network. I want every piece of information by tomorrow night. And track the drugs.”

Yoongi nodded once. No questions.

“Where is Samchoon?” Jin asked.

“Eunwoo’s room,” Yoongi said.

Jin nodded. He turned to leave, then paused. “Go home after. Rest.”

Yoongi stayed where he was and watched Jin walk away watched his figure grow smaller down the corridor until it turned the corner and disappeared. He stood there for a moment longer.

Then he mumbled. “You are going to regret everything Kim!”

.

.

.

Jin pushed open the door to Eunwoo’s room quietly.

Hyunwoo was on the couch, hunched forward, one hand pressed over his face, head down. Haein stood near the window, phone to her ear, speaking in a low urgent voice.

They both looked up the moment Jin stepped in.

“I’ll call you later,” Haein said quickly and hung up. She looked at Jin and the panic that moved across her face was immediate and unfiltered. “Did you…. Did you send Michael’s body to the base?”

Hyunwoo’s head snapped up at that.

Jin nodded.

Haein’s breath caught. “Did you kill Michael Jordan?” Jin nodded again. His voice came out completely calm. “He deserved it.” He siad that like it was nothing.

“God!!!” Hyunwoo was on his feet instantly. “Jin, why would you do that? He is the Shadow leader’s son. Do you understand what you’ve just done? He will come for everything, he will destroy—” he stopped when Jin looked at him.

Just looked at him. Direct and still and completely unmoved. “I don’t care,” Jin said simply. The room went quiet.

Hyunwoo sat back down slowly. He knew better than to push past that look.

Jin turned his gaze to the bed. Eunwoo lay there an IV in his arm, a bandage wrapped around his head, his clothes changed, his face slack and peaceful in the deep.

“How is he?” Jin asked. “Fine,” Haein said softly. “Just exhausted.”

Jin looked at him for a moment longer. Then Hyunwoo spoke again and this time his voice was different. Calm. Deliberate. Each word placed carefully, like stones being laid one by one. No hesitation.

“You killed the Michael…. who is the son son of a person who made your brother’s life hell,” he said. “And you removed the only heir of that very same person who turned your brother into a killer.”

Jin said nothing.

“And in doing that,” Hyunwoo continued, “you did exactly what your Suho hyung did years ago…. when he took the Shadow leader’s first son.”

Jin turned to look at him. A flicker of something confusion moved across his face.

Hyunwoo met his gaze without flinching.

“Be angry at me for everything,” he said quietly. “I’m not asking you not to be. But I had reasons, Jin-ah. When I told you that you couldn’t bear the truth…. I meant every word of it.” He paused. “Those scars on his body were not made in a day. They were made over years. And the fear you see in that child’s eyes it was never sudden. It was never new. It has always been there. It has been there since he was eleven years old.”

“And you killed Michael Jordan who is the son of Emilio Jordan…. The shadow…. Years ago… Suho killed his eldest son and got killed by Emilio…. By your brother’s own hand…. Emilio killed your hyung…”

The room was completely still. Haein looked at Hyunwoo. Jin looked at Hyunwoo.

Both of them listening. Both of them not yet understanding the full shape of what was coming.

But both of them knowing with the particular instinct of people who had already survived too many revelations in one night that whatever Hyunwoo said next was going to change something again.
