Chapter 16
“Good morning, Kookie,” Jin and Tae said warmly. Jungkook just looked at them.
“Kookie, go and freshen up and come down for breakfast,” Jin said.
“A-ani, I don’t have an appetite,” Jungkook said, getting up. “No tantrums on skipping meals, Kook. You must eat at least a little. Breakfast is important,” Jin said.
“I said I don’t want,” Jungkook said a little loudly, frustrated.
“Kook, just eat some. You always skip meals, it’s not good for your health, Koo–” Tae was saying softly but was cut off when Jungkook yelled, “Can’t you understand? I said I don’t want to eat. You don’t need to care for me. Why the hell are you both nagging me?” Jungkook yelled, fully angry and frustrated in the morning.
Jin and Tae were stunned. Seeing their Jungkook angry for the first time, they were shocked and confused. “A-ani, Kook, we d-didn’t mean to nag you or force you, w–” Jin was cut off.
“What do you mean by you didn’t? Always, ‘Kook, eat this, eat that.’ ‘Don’t skip meals.’ ‘Sleep soon.’ ‘Did you eat?’ ‘Where are you?’ I don’t give a fuck about anyone, so just leave me alone,” Jungkook yelled and ran upstairs to his room.
He vented all his frustration on his Hyungs, who were only trying to care for him.
Tae and Jin were shocked. After Jungkook went to his room, Jin and Tae looked at each other, shocked and confused. “Hyungie, what happened to him?” Tae asked, on the verge of crying. Jin gently hugged Tae, “Don’t worry, Tae. I think he’s a little stressed. Let’s talk to him later, hmm? Don’t feel sad, he’s our maknae, right?” Jin said, comforting the sad Tae. Tae just nodded with a pout.
Jin smiled and said, “Okay, come on, let’s eat breakfast. You said you were hungry,” Jin said, trying to lighten the mood. “Kookie?” Tae asked.
“After we eat, let’s take breakfast to his room, hmm?” Jin asked. Tae sighed and nodded.
They both started eating breakfast, Jin trying his best to cheer Tae up. Even though Jin was sad because of Jungkook’s outburst, he tried to stay positive.
Meanwhile, with Jungkook:
He entered his room and locked the door. He lay on the bed, his hands shivering. “Why the fuck should they care for me? I don’t want anyone’s fucking care. I don’t want them to care for me. I’m there for myself, that’s enough. I can take care of myself,” Jungkook mumbled, frustrated just by the thought of Jin and Tae caring for him.
Jungkook just lay there, pouting and with a headache. After a while, he got up and went to take a bath.
After taking a bath, he came out, drying his hair with a towel. He stood in front of the mirror, not wearing a shirt. He saw his bruised shoulders and stomach. He sighed and took an ointment to apply to the bruises.
After that, he put on a shirt. His phone rang. He took the call while putting on his socks. It was an unknown number.
“Hello?” Jungkook answered.
“Where are you?” A deep voice asked. Jungkook recognized the voice immediately; it was eunwoo.
“Why did you call?” Jungkook asked.
“Your dad asked you to start the mission today,” eunwoo said.
Jungkook gritted his teeth. “Why the fuck did you accept to work with me, huh? I don’t fucking want to work with you,” Jungkook said angrily.
“Do you think I’m so happy to work with you, moron? I’m more irritated than you. Just don’t make me more angry,” eunwoo yelled.
“What the fuck do you want now?” Jungkook asked.
“I set up my house for the mission. I’ll send you the location,” Seojun said.
Jungkook just hummed.
they hung up the call.
—
After getting ready to go out, Jungkook saw Jin and Tae sitting in the dining room, talking. He was about to leave but stopped when he heard Jin say, “Kook, where are you going?”
Jungkook sighed. “To the library,” he lied. “Okay, eat breakfast and go,” Jin said, his voice still soft and calm.
“Why the fuck can’t they understand?” Jungkook thought. “I’ll eat out,” he said and left. Tae was about to speak, but Jin stopped him. Neither Jin nor Tae stopped Jungkook.
Jungkook took his bike and rode to the location.
He saw some guards following him. Jungkook sighed heavily. He parked his bike at the library and went inside. The guards followed him.
After going inside, Jungkook called Hyun Woo.
“Nae, Jung–” Hyun Woo was cut off by Jungkook, who said frustratedly, “These fucking guards are following me. How the fuck am I supposed to do the mission?”
“Ah, wait, I’ll talk to them,” Hyun Woo said, as he was the one who had appointed the guards for Jungkook after being informed by Jin. As Mr Kim said, “I’ll appoint the guards for my son“
After a while, Hyun Woo called Jungkook back.
“I told them off, but be careful outside. There are some rivals looking for you,” Hyun Woo said, concerned.
Jungkook hummed.
“By the way, eun told me he set up a room in his house. Please, don’t fight there. I’ll come there in the evening,” Hyun Woo said. Jungkook just hummed, annoyed. He hung up the call and went out.
He took his bike and went to eunwoo’s house.
He looked at the apartment, which wasn’t luxurious but decent.
He asked eunwoo for the floor and door number, and Seojun sent him the information.
Jungkook went to the door and knocked. eunwoo opened it, wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
Jungkook glared at him and went inside. He saw the messy house. “Can’t you even clean a house?” Jungkook asked with a disgusted face.
“Why the fuck do you care? You came to work, not to judge me,” eunwoo said. Jungkook scoffed bitterly.
—
Jungkook went to the room that eunwoo had prepared. He saw the computers, some documents, and some photos on the board.
Jungkook sat on a chair. “I got some leads about them,” eunwoo explained. “Mr Park is a politician. He’s working to become a President in our country. There are some rumors that he has killed people and is doing some illegal work.” Jungkook just listened to him and nodded.
“Let’s look for his political information,” Jungkook said. eunwoo nodded and opened the computer. Jungkook opened his laptop and started working on it.
They were working so concentratedly. They both weren’t talking much, only speaking when necessary.
Meanwhile, with Jin and Tae…
In tae’s bedroom.
After Jungkook left, Tae was feeling so restless. He kept sending messages like, “Did you eat breakfast?” and “Eat lunch, Kook! It’s time.” But there were still no replies from Jungkook.
“Hyungie, do you think we made him feel uncomfortable?” Tae asked with a pout. Jin gently caressed Tae’s hand and said, “Don’t worry, Tae. He’ll be fine. I think he’s just stressed; let’s give him some time. stay calm, okay?” Jin spoke softly, trying to comfort Tae.
Tae just nodded, still feeling unsettled despite Jin’s words. Even Jin was feeling sad, but he put on a smile for Tae’s sake.
“Hyungie, I still miss our Kookie,” Tae confessed.
“I miss him a lot. I miss how he talks to us, how he treats us, how he annoys us, and just… everything. Even though he’s here, it feels like he’s so far away. He’s barely speaking to us, even for just a moment. I feel so sad, Hyungie. I want my Kookie to talk to me.” A tear slipped down Tae’s cheek as he finished speaking, making Jin feel even more emotional.
Jin hugged him gently. “Don’t worry, Tae. Everything will be fine. He’s our Kook. Let’s just give him some time,” Jin said, comforting Tae. Tae nodded, still held in Jin’s embrace, and they stayed like that for a while.
“Hyungie?” Tae called softly.
“Hmm?” Jin hummed, asking what Tae needed.
“Is he okay? He seems so distracted,” Tae said with concern.
“I asked him yesterday, Tae, if anything was bothering him,” Jin replied. “He said everything was fine, but… I’m still not convinced. His eyes were lying. But let’s figure it out soon, hmm? He’ll be fine.”
“I’ll be happy if he’s okay. Our maknae shouldn’t suffer,” Tae said, looking at Jin.
Jin nodded with a smile. “My bear has become so mature, huh?” he teased.
Tae gave a playful smirk. “No, I’m a tiger! Roar!” he said, making a pretend tiger paw gesture.
Jin chuckled. “Nope, you’re my cute baby bear,” he said, placing a gentle kiss on Tae’s head.
Tae chuckled and hugged Jin tightly. “Love you, Hyungie,” Tae said.
Jin smiled. “What’s this, so sudden?” he asked, chuckling and ruffling Tae’s hair.
“I know you’re sad. You don’t have to put on that fake smile just for me. If you’re feeling down, it’s okay-I won’t judge you, Hyungie. You’re my lovely hyung, and you have my shoulder,” Tae said sincerely.
Jin looked into Tae’s eyes, his own filled with tears. He smiled through them and hugged Tae even tighter. “Love you too, my Tae. My bear,” he said, placing a kiss on Tae’s forehead.
Tae smiled, and they stayed like that. Jin patted Tae’s head and arm, soothing him until he fell asleep. Jin watched Tae sleeping and smiled, feeling a little lighter. His own eyes grew heavy, and soon he closed them, falling asleep with Tae.
With jungkook and eunwoo (4pm.)
Jungkook and eunwo worked silently, their screens casting an eerie glow across their focused faces, eunwoo had prepared a room specifically for their mission, and despite his irritation at having to work with Jungkook, he kept himself professional, briefing him on the leads he had found on their target, Mr Park.
“I’ve dug up a list of his known associates,” eunwoo said, scrolling through a document. “There are rumors of money laundering and connections with organized crime. He’s kept a clean public image so far, but there are loopholes.”
Jungkook gave a brief nod, his eyes not leaving his screen. “The media’s got its eyes on him. It’ll be tricky to go unnoticed if we dig too deep.”
eunwoo scoffed, crossing his arms. “I’m not concerned about being noticed. I’m more concerned about finishing this as soon as possible.”
Hours passed, and the silence grew more tense. Finally, eunwoo stretched and stood up, he went to the kitchen.
After a while seo came back with two bowls of ramen for them. Also with two coffee in his hand.
eunwoo kept a bowl in front of jungkook.
Jungkook didn’t look up. “I’m not hungry,” he replied curtly.
Seojun rolled his eyes. “Skipping meals won’t make you any tougher, you know.”
Seojun sighed and started eating his food.
Jungkook ignored him, trying to focus on his screen. He could feel his phone vibrating in his pocket and pulled it out, seeing a message from Jin: Kook, make sure to eat. Take care of yourself, okay?
Jungkook clenched his jaw and typed back a quick reply: I ate. A lie.
He placed the phone back in his pocket, feeling a pang of guilt for taking his anger out on them in this morning but shaking it off immediately.
“Why the fuck they keep nagging me even after I say not to” he thought.
“Your ‘family’ checking in?” eunwoo asked bitterly while slurping his soup, catching a glimpse of the message on Jungkook’s phone.
Jungkook glared at him. “Mind your own fucking business.”
“Oh, right, who am I to interfere in YOUR FAMILY” eunwoo said emphasizing the word Family, smirking slightly.
Jungkook’s face hardened. “yeah right. So shut your fucking mouth.”
eunwoo shrugged, “I just find it funny. A new family for someone. woah that’s great.” eunwoo said shaking his head. There was bitterness in his voice.
Jungkook’s chest tightened, but he forced himself to stay calm. eunwoo’s words struck deep, resurrecting the guilt he’d worked so hard to bury.
“Say what you want,” Jungkook said, voice cold. “I’m here for the mission, not to dredge up the past.”
eunwoo chuckled humorlessly. “Keep telling yourself that. You may have forgotten, but noona and I haven’t. We haven’t forgotten how you left us behind.”
Jungkook forced himself to look away, his jaw clenched tight. Memories flashed in his mind-of decisions he’d made, of moments he could never take back. He remembered eunwoo’s shocked face, the disbelief in his teary eyes when he walked away from them.
He had his reasons, reasons he couldn’t explain even if he wanted to, but that didn’t make the weight of his actions any easier to bear.
“Enough, eunwoo” he yelled.
“Yah, don’t shout, you monster!” eunwoo yelled back. Jungkook, frustrated, clenched his fist, and eunwoo noticed it. “Want to hit me? Go ahead, Mr. Selfish,” Seo-jun said bitterly.
Jungkook glared at him even more intensely. “Can you just shut that fucking mouth? Don’t you have anything better to do, huh?” Jungkook yelled, his anger boiling over.
“Why should I stop you monster. You are selfish. A selfish. A heartless person. You betrayed us. You killed him mister. You killed hyungie right? Then you are called a killer. Am I right?” eunwoo said so bitterly
Jungkook was about to respond but stopped when he heard the doorbell. eunwoo sighed and went to answer it. It was Hyun-woo.
Hyun-woo had heard the shouting as he came in. Immediately after eunwoo opened the door he walked in and scolded them, “What did I say, huh? I told you two not to fight.
Don’t you understand?”
They both looked away, still glaring at each other. But jungkook, he was hurt
Hyun-woo sighed, trying to calm himself. “Both of you, explain the mission,” he said, sitting down on a chair and watching them closely.
Jungkook and eunwoo sighed, then started explaining. Whenever their eyes met, they continued to glare at each other, but Hyun-woo just listened patiently.
“Good lead,” Hyun-woo acknowledged.
“But remember, you two should only meet when it’s absolutely necessary. And Jungkook, no one should know you’re in the mafia. Same goes for you, eun.”
Jungkook and eunwoo both nodded in agreement. “I’ll head home,” Jungkook said as he started packing his things.
“Hmm. And what are you going to tell them?” Hyun-woo asked.
“The library?” Jungkook replied, and Hyun-woo nodded. With that, Jungkook left.
“Them? His hyungs?” eunwoo asked bitterly.
“Yes. They don’t know Jungkook is in the mafia,” Hyun-woo said.
eunwoo scoffed.
“eunwoo, please don’t fight,” Hyun-woo requested.
“Uncle, I’m not trying to hurt him. I only say those harsh things because he refuses to accept the truth,” eunwoo said, his tone softening. “I still believe he didn’t kill hyung. I have this hope that if I push him hard enough, he’ll tell me the truth. But he still hasn’t said a word. one day he will be caught by me, thatday he is gone, and i..i know jungkook also do miss us, i can see it in his eyes, I wont forgive, that monster his so called dad.”
Seo-jun’s voice turned more serious. “And one more thing-I mean it, Uncle. If anything happens to him, I won’t spare any of you.”
Even if you are angry with them you care for them. (Am I right?)
