Chapter 34
I… I’m sorry, Kook.”
The moment those words left her lips, her tears started flowing uncontrollably.
Jungkook froze.
His entire world shattered.
His entire body went stiff, his mind unable to process her words.
Hyesuk looked down, unable to meet his eyes. “I… I am not your real mom. I lied to you.”
The entire room fell silent.
Jungkook’s tears fell even faster. His hands trembled as he clenched the bedsheet. His mind was in chaos. He couldn’t understand anything. He felt lost.
Hyesuk swallowed the lump in her throat and continued, her voice barely above a whisper. “I… I can’t have children. I was your mom’s best friend. I knew you and your brothers from the day you were born. The day you had that accident with Yoona… she died, and you lost all your memories.”
Jungkook’s breathing became unsteady.
“You were in a critical condition. For four days, you were unconscious. And when you finally woke up, the first thing you asked for was your eomma… but you didn’t remember who she was.”
Jungkook’s vision blurred.
“You cried so much, calling for your mother… and I—I took responsibility. I lied to you that day. I told you I was your mom, and you… you believed me.”
Her voice broke.
“I didn’t want you to find out this way. I never wanted to hide the truth forever… but it happened. I… I am really sorry, Kook.”
Jungkook remained silent, his head still lowered, tears dripping onto his hands.
“But I swear,” Hyesuk continued, “I never saw you as someone else’s son. I always saw you, Haein, and Eunwoo as my own children. And I always will.”
Her voice cracked as she pleaded, “Please… please don’t leave me. I am really sorry, Kook.”
The room was filled with quiet sobs. Haein and Eunwoo were crying, overwhelmed by the emotions in the air.
Jungkook sat there, completely still.
After what felt like forever, Hyesuk spoke again, her voice trembling. “Kook… I am so sorry, baby. Please… don’t hate me… please—”
But before she could finish, Jungkook suddenly lunged forward and hugged her tightly, as if afraid she would disappear.
“Eomma!” He cried loudly, holding onto her like no tomorrow.
Hyesuk broke down, hugging him just as tightly. “I’m sorry, Kook… I’m so sorry,” she kept whispering, running her hands through his hair.
Jungkook sobbed into her shoulder. “You are my e-eomma. I don’t care about anything else. You are my mom, and I am your son. No one can change that. I am your son always… so don’t say nonsense, please.”
Hyesuk’s heart clenched at his words. She cupped his face, wiping away his tears. “N-nae… You are my son,” she whispered and placed a soft kiss on his forehead.
Haein and Eunwoo, who had been watching in tears, felt warmth spread in their chests.
Hyesuk gestured for them to join the hug. Without hesitation, they rushed forward, wrapping their arms around Jungkook.
The four of them stayed like that for a long time, finding comfort in each other.
Meanwhile…
Someone stood outside the room, watching with a heavy heart.
It was Suho.
He leaned against the doorframe, his eyes filled with tears as he listened to everything. He clutched a silver chain in his hand, his grip tightening. (The same chain which Jungkook had in 2nd chapter)
“See, Aunty (Yoona)? Your best friend is there for Kook. She’s taking care of him. Our Kook is safe. He has a family that loves him.”
A single tear slipped down his cheek.
“We will protect him. Me, Jin, Yoongi, Hobi, Namjoon, Jimin, Tae, Haein, and Hyesuk Aunt… we’re all here for him and now for eunwoo too… We won’t let that monster hurt him anymore.”
His expression darkened.
“He already did enough to Jin… and I’ll never forgive him for that. I’ll make him pay for everything.”
He clutched the chain even tighter, his resolve strengthening.

Jungkook never asked about his real family again.
Hyesuk tried, many times, to bring up the topic gently, but each time, Jungkook would cut her off.
“Eomma, I don’t want to hear anything about my past,” he said firmly. “Noona, you, Hyungie, Eunwoo, and I—that’s my family. No one else. Please don’t talk about my past anymore.”
His words left Hyesuk heartbroken, but she respected his decision.
Still, she thought to herself, “I’ll tell him when the time is right.”
But she didn’t know…
That time would never come.
A Random Day
“Noonaaa! Look at him! He took my banana milk!” Jungkook complained, huffing like a baby.
“Noona, I only took a few sips!” Eunwoo whined in defense.
Haein sighed in frustration, choosing to ignore them as she continued drinking her chocolate milk like nothing happened.
“Can you both stop whining?” Suho said while driving, clearly annoyed.
“Hyunggggg!” They both whined in unison, making Suho roll his eyes.
“Shut your mouths, or else my slipper will speak,” Haein warned, and instantly, both Jungkook and Eunwoo went silent.
Suho chuckled. “Your slipper has power, Haein-ah.”
She smirked. “Of course, it does.”
Meanwhile, Jungkook and Eunwoo continued glaring at each other.
“When will Eomma come?” Jungkook asked, looking out the window.
“She said she’ll meet us at the park,” Suho replied.
Jungkook nodded in understanding.
The four of them were on their way to the amusement park, where Hyesuk had promised to join them later.
Upon arriving at the amusement park, they waited near the entrance for Hyesuk.
Jungkook spotted her first. “Eomma! Here!” He waved excitedly.
Hyesuk smiled warmly and walked toward them. “I’m sorry I’m late.”
“It’s okay! Come on, let’s go!” Eunwoo said, dragging her inside eagerly.
The rest of them chuckled and followed along.
That day, the five of them had the time of their lives, enjoying every ride, every laugh, every moment—
But little did they know… it was the last time they would be this happy together.
“Okay! Who wants ice cream?” Hyesuk asked with a bright smile.
Immediately, Jungkook and Eunwoo shot up from their seats, raising their hands.
The trio—Haein, Suho, and Hyesuk—chuckled at their enthusiasm.
“Okay, I’ll go buy it,” Hyesuk said, turning to leave.
“Wait, I’ll come too!” Jungkook said, standing up.
“Are you coming, Eun?” Hyesuk asked.
“Noooo, my legs hurt like hell!” Eunwoo whined dramatically, making the others laugh.
“He’s such a lazy cat. Come on, let’s go!” Jungkook said, dragging Hyesuk along.
The two of them walked together, hand in hand, smiles on their faces.
As they crossed the road, Hyesuk accidentally dropped her purse in the middle.
“Wait, I’ll get it,” she said, letting go of Jungkook’s hand.
He nodded, waiting for her with a real smile.
But just as she bent down to pick it up, her eyes widened—
A car was speeding toward her at full speed.
Before she could react, Jungkook saw it too. His heart stopped.
“EOMMAAAA!” He screamed, eyes filled with panic.
Hyesuk looked up in shock.
Her breath hitched when she saw Jungkook running toward her.
The car was too close.
“No, Kook! Stay back!” she wanted to yell, but it was too late.
In the next moment, Jungkook felt himself being pushed—like a shield protecting him.
And then—
CRASH.
The car hit them.
A loud thud echoed as they both flew in different directions.
Jungkook’s body hit the ground hard, pain shooting through him. His vision blurred as he weakly opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was his mother.
Lying in a pool of her own blood. Unmoving.
The sounds around him became muffled. People were screaming. Running.
His lips trembled. “E-eo… eomma…” he whispered weakly.
And the next moment—
Everything went black.
.
.
.
.
“Eommaaa!”
Jungkook woke up with a jerk, breathing heavily, his body covered in sweat. His sudden movements startled the others awake. His eyes welled up with tears, and before he knew it, he started sobbing uncontrollably.
Jin, who had been sleeping beside him, immediately panicked. “Hey, Kook, what happened? Hey!” he called out, but Jungkook wasn’t in his senses. He kept crying, mumbling something inaudible between his sobs.
Jin’s heart ached at the sight. Without a second thought, he pulled Jungkook into a soothing hug, rubbing his back gently. “Shh… calm down, baby. I’m here. Don’t cry… please, calm down, Kook,” Jin whispered, his own eyes glistening with tears.
Jungkook continued crying, his body trembling in Jin’s embrace. Jin held him tighter, trying his best to calm him.
“See, Kook… don’t cry. I’m here, okay? Everything is fine,” Jin reassured him softly.
Gradually, Jungkook’s sobs turned into sniffles. He was still breathing heavily, his chest rising and falling rapidly.
Jin broke the hug slightly to look at Jungkook’s face—his eyes were red and swollen, his cheeks stained with tears, and his expression completely drained.
Jin cupped his cheeks gently, wiping away the remaining tears with his thumbs. “Don’t cry, Kook. I’m right here, hmm? You’re not alone,” he murmured.
Jungkook remained silent, his gaze downcast. His breathing was still uneven.
“Here, drink some water,” Jin said, handing him a glass.
Jungkook took small sips, his hands slightly shaky, Jin supported him. Jin noticed the sweat on his forehead and wiped it off gently with his hand. His worry only grew.
“Are you okay now?” Jin asked again, his voice soft yet filled with concern.
Jungkook gave a small nod but didn’t say anything. Jin frowned. He could feel the warmth still. He realised Jungkook had fever still.
“What happened, Kook?” Jin asked again, hoping for an answer.
Jungkook simply lowered his head, refusing to speak. Jin sighed deeply.
“Do you want anything?” Jin asked, trying again.
Jungkook shook his head.
“Okay… come on, try to sleep, hmm?” Jin said, adjusting the blankets over him.
Jungkook shook his head again. “Why?” Jin asked, confused.
Why?…. He never slept after the nightmares. He was afraid to sleep. He wants sleep but was not able to sleep.
But Jungkook stayed silent, refusing to answer. His silence only made Jin’s heart ache more.
Letting out another sigh, Jin gently took Jungkook’s hand in his own. “I’m here, Kook. I’m with you. So just close your eyes and rest, okay? Don’t overthink, just focus on sleeping,” he said softly.
Jungkook still didn’t respond, but he didn’t resist either.
Jin carefully helped him lie down, tucking him in. He turned off the lights, leaving only the dim glow of a bedside lamp.
“Don’t worry, I’m right here, okay? Just sleep… don’t think about anything. Just close your eyes,” Jin whispered, patting Jungkook’s chest lightly and running his fingers through his hair in a soothing manner.
Exhausted, Jungkook slowly closed his eyes. He could still hear Jin’s gentle voice, feel his comforting touch—everything he needed at that moment. Unknowingly, he drifted back into sleep.
Jin, however, wasn’t at ease. He watched Jungkook’s peaceful yet tired face, his heart filled with worry.
“Kook, what happened to you? Is something wrong? Did something happen?” Jin murmured to himself.
His heart clenched. “You’re not the same as before… I can feel it. Something’s bothering you, but you won’t tell me. Kook, if something is wrong, please… just tell me. I’m really worried about you.”
A tear slipped from Jin’s eye as he gazed at his younger brother.
He didn’t know what had happened. But he knew something was wrong.
Jin was sure of it.
And if something had happened—he swore he would protect Jungkook at all costs.
Jin remained in deep thought, overthinking, his mind racing with worry. Without realizing it, exhaustion overtook him, and he fell asleep while still keeping his hand on Jungkook’s chest and his other hand on Jungkook’s head.
The position was almost like a mother soothing her baby to sleep—protective, warm, and filled with love.
In his sleep, Jungkook unknowingly shifted closer, seeking warmth. Without realizing it, he curled up into Jin’s embrace.
Jin, even in his sleep, felt it. His arms instinctively wrapped around Jungkook, holding him securely.
That night, for the first time in a long while—
Jungkook slept peacefully in Jin’s embrace.
Morning – 5 AM
Jungkook slowly opened his eyes, feeling an unfamiliar sense of comfort. His body felt warm, safe—something he hadn’t felt in a long time. Blinking a few times, he looked around, his vision adjusting.
That’s when he realized—he was in Jin’s embrace…. In his hyung’ embrace.
His breath hitched.
Jungkook’s head was resting against Jin’s chest, his arms loosely wrapped around him. He could hear the steady rhythm of Jin’s heartbeat, feel the warmth radiating from him. He hadn’t even realized when he had ended up like this.
His body tensed slightly, and he tried to move, but Jin’s hold around him was tight, secure—like he was afraid Jungkook would disappear if he let go.
Jungkook froze for a moment before sighing softly. He stopped resisting and just stayed there.
His gaze shifted to Jin’s face. His hyung was still fast asleep, his expression peaceful and calm.
Jungkook bit his lip, his thoughts running wild.
“A-Are you a good person?” he mumbled under his breath.
His eyes softened slightly as he stared at Jin’s sleeping face.
“I heard you are bad… but your actions aren’t letting me believe that. Am I wrong? Or are you just acting? Or… is Kim wrong?” Jungkook whispered to himself, confusion evident in his voice.
He didn’t know what to believe anymore.
The warmth of Jin’s embrace, the way he comforted him, the way he held him, like he was the most precious thing in the world—it didn’t feel like an act. It felt real.
Jungkook kept staring at Jin for a while, his mind tangled in thoughts.
Before he knew it, his eyelids grew heavy again. The warmth, the safety—it was too comforting. Without realizing it, he fell asleep again.
Just listen.
The boy who had never slept without taking his sleeping pills for the past few years—was now sleeping peacefully on his own.
The boy who would always wake up in the middle of the night, gasping for air, having a panic attack after every nightmare—had now calmed down instantly just by being in his hyung’s embrace.
The boy who had always thought he was alone, who had believed that no one cared for him—was now realizing that maybe, just maybe, someone did.
And he never thought it would be Kim Seokjin.
