Chapter 41

Jungkook’s breath came in sharp gasps.

“Your mom died because of you.”

“Yoona died because of you.”

Kim’s voice echoed in his mind, ringing over and over like a never-ending nightmare.

His chest tightened. The world around him blurred. His ears buzzed with static. He couldn’t breathe.

Jin noticed immediately.

Yoongi shot up from his seat. “That’s enough for today. Thank you all for attending this event. We appreciate your presence.” He said with a forced smile.

The audience applauded, the media packed up, and people started leaving. But Jin didn’t care about any of it—his full focus was on Jungkook.

He gently grabbed his brother, pulling him aside. Haein followed, worry written all over her face.

Jungkook’s gasping grew worse. His body trembled, his eyes shut so tightly that tears slipped from the corners.

“Kookie, baby, look at me… Kook, breathe, calm down.” Jin’s voice was soft, but panic seeped into his tone.

Jungkook wasn’t responding.

By now, the others had gathered around. Kim and Hyunwoo were nowhere to be seen.

Haein noticed the state Jungkook was in. Without wasting a second, she rushed to her bag, grabbed a pill and a water bottle, and ran back.

She handed them to Jin, who took them confusedly.

Haein crouched to Jungkook’s level.

“Kookie… I’m here, hmm? Don’t worry, noona is here,” she whispered, her voice gentle.

But Jungkook didn’t react. His breathing was still uneven.

Tears continued to fall from his tightly shut eyes.

Haein’s heart clenched. Panic bubbled in her chest.

Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around him.

“Kookie… I’m here… It’s okay, noona is here… Don’t panic, baby… Take deep breaths.”

She whispered over and over, rocking him slightly.

The others watched, their emotions raw.

Taehyung’s eyes glistened with tears. He bit his lip, but a sob escaped.

Hoseok crouched beside Jungkook, placing a warm hand on his back.

“Jungkook, breathe. Slow, deep breaths. Come on, you can do it.” He was trying his best to  calm jungkook.

His voice was steady, despite the ache in his heart.

Then—

A broken whisper left Jungkook’s lips.

“E-eo-eomma…”

Haein’s breath hitched.

Her grip on him tightened.

“Shhh, I’m here. You’re okay. You’re not alone. Just breathe.”

“Eomma… E-eomma… Want e-eomma” jungkook said in broken voice.

The others heard it too.

Taehyung’s shoulders shook as silent tears streamed down his face.

Jimin covered his mouth, his own tears falling.

Namjoon pulled Taehyung into a hug, while Yoongi wrapped his arms around Jimin, both trying to comfort their younger brothers.

Haein, Jin, and Hoseok worked together to soothe Jungkook, their words soft, their hands steady.

Hoseok, being a psychiatrist, handled it well—helping Jungkook regain control of his breathing.

Jungkook slowly started to calm down.

His body relaxed. His breaths became steadier.

He nuzzled into Haein’s embrace, as if finding the warmth he had been desperately seeking.

For the first time in years, he felt safe.

Haein pulled back slightly, cupping his face.

She wiped his tears away with gentle fingers.

“See me, Kookie… I’m here. Nothing will happen to you. Don’t worry, okay?”

Her voice was steady, full of genuine care.

Jungkook looked up at her, his eyes still glistening with unshed tears.

Jungkook looked down and broke the hug, turning his gaze away.

Haein sighed before looking at Jin. “Make sure he takes the pills. They’re calming pills,” she instructed.

Jin nodded and sat beside Jungkook. “Kook, are you feeling better now?” he asked gently.

Jungkook nodded absentmindedly.

Jin opened the water bottle and handed him the pill. “Here, take this,” he said softly.

Jungkook obediently took the pill, swallowing it with a gulp of water.

Jin sighed in relief and gently hugged him. “Nothing will happen, don’t worry. Everything will be fine. I’m here,” he reassured.

Jungkook only nodded, still lost in his thoughts. Without realizing it, he snuggled into Jin’s embrace. Jin kept caressing his back, his eyes meeting Haein’s worried gaze.

“Thank you,” he mouthed to her.

Haein gave a small nod before quietly leaving.

Jin felt Jungkook’s breathing calm down. Moments later, Jungkook’s body relaxed completely. Jin carefully broke the hug and checked on him—he had fallen asleep due to the pill.

Jin let out a sigh of relief.

He looked at Hoseok and gestured for him to hold Jungkook. Hoseok did, supporting the younger carefully. Jin placed a hand on Jungkook’s forehead, frowning at how warm he felt.

His fever had worsened.

Jin sighed, rubbing his temple in frustration. When he looked up, he saw Taehyung silently crying, while Jimin was sobbing uncontrollably in Yoongi’s embrace.

Jin opened his arms. “Tae, don’t cry, please.”

Without hesitation, Taehyung rushed into Jin’s embrace.

“Kookie?” Taehyung mumbled through his tears.

“He’s fine. Please don’t cry.”

Taehyung nodded weakly.

Jin then turned his attention to Jimin, who was still crying. He crouched down beside him.

“Chim, look at me,” Jin coaxed gently.

Jimin lifted his tear-streaked face, sniffling.

Jin pulled him into a hug. “See? Your best friend stopped crying. Don’t cry, okay?”

Jimin hiccupped. “Why did Samchon do that?” he asked, voice trembling.

Jin had no answer.

Yoongi clenched his fists and jaw, his eyes dark with anger.

Jin sighed. “Let’s talk about this later, hmm? It’s already past 10:30. We should go home.”

Jimin hesitated but eventually nodded.

“Yoongi, take him,” Jin said, gesturing toward Jimin.

Yoongi nodded, still clenching his fists. He pulled Jimin close and started leading him out.

“Take him home. We’ll discuss everything later,” Jin added.

Yoongi gave a firm nod, though his jaw remained tight with suppressed anger.

Jin then turned to Namjoon. “Let’s go home, Joon. We’ll talk later.”

Namjoon and Hoseok both nodded in agreement.

With Hoseok’s help, Jin carefully lifted Jungkook onto his back, carrying him in a piggyback style. He walked to the car, making sure not to jostle him too much.

Once they reached the car, Jin carefully placed Jungkook in the seat.

Taehyung immediately sat beside him, holding him protectively.

Jungkook unconsciously rested his head on Taehyung’s shoulder, exhaustion completely overtaking him.

He wasn’t fully aware of his surroundings anymore—his body weak, his mind clouded by the pill.

Taehyung held him close, whispering softly, “It’s okay, Kookie. I’m here.”

Jin saw Hyunwoo sending Kim off in another car. Once Kim was gone, Hyunwoo walked toward him.

“Ji—” Hyunwoo started, but Jin cut him off.

“Don’t stop me this time, Samchoon. He will regret his actions. Does he think he’s some kind of god? I swear, if anything happens to my Kook, he’s done for. I need answers—I know you’re all hiding something from me. If he did anything to Jungkook, I won’t hesitate to kill him. He’s already done enough to all of us,” Jin said firmly, his voice laced with anger.

Without waiting for a response, Jin got into his car and drove off.

Hyunwoo sighed before heading toward the car where Yoongi and Jimin were waiting. Hobi and Namjoon took their own car.

Inside Yoongi’s Car

Hyunwoo sat in the front seat, glancing at Yoongi, who was visibly angry.

“Yoongi—” he started, but Yoongi simply raised a hand, signaling him to stop.

Hyunwoo immediately understood—Jimin was there.

Taking a deep breath, Yoongi turned to Jimin. “Chim, don’t think about anything right now, okay? We’ll handle everything.”

Jimin nodded weakly, his face still tear-streaked.

Yoongi sighed and started driving. The entire ride was silent.

Inside Hobi and Namjoon’s Car

“This Kim Yoonseong will drive us mad one day,” Hobi shouted in frustration.

Namjoon gritted his teeth. “He’s a fucking monster, Hobi. Jin-hyung won’t let him off this time. I was so worried about Kook. He looked so pale and scared. Why the fuck did Kim do that?”

The entire ride was filled with curses aimed at Kim Yoonseong.

Inside Jin’s Car

Jin was deep in thought, gripping the steering wheel tightly.

“Hyung…” Taehyung called softly.

Jin hummed in response.

“His fever is really high. Should we call the doctor?” Taehyung asked, concern evident in his voice.

Jin nodded. “I’ll ask the doctor to come once we reach home. Don’t worry.”

Taehyung hummed in response.

As they drove, Jin suddenly noticed a roadblock ahead. The sign read: “Road construction in progress.”

Jin sighed and turned onto an alternate route. The road was completely empty—no other cars in sight. A strange sense of unease settled in his chest, but he shook it off.

Looking in the rearview mirror, he spotted Yoongi’s and Hobi’s cars following behind. That reassured him slightly.

But the bad feeling wouldn’t go away.

Frowning, Jin quickly called Hobi and Namjoon, putting in his earpiece so that neither Taehyung nor Jungkook would hear.

“Is everything fine there? And where are the guards?” Jin asked.

“Hyung, this place seems suspicious,” Hobi replied. “The guards are behind us in another car. Two cars are ahead of you.”

Jin hummed in acknowledgment. “Make sure—”

Before he could finish his sentence, a deafening explosion echoed through the air.

A loud BOOM shook the entire area.

Taehyung and Jungkook flinched violently.

Taehyung immediately held Jungkook tightly. Jin flinched as well, his hands gripping the wheel tightly as he slammed the brakes.

His breathing was heavy as he quickly looked at Taehyung and Jungkook.

Jungkook, still half-asleep, started breathing heavily, his body trembling.

“Hyungie…?” Taehyung asked, his voice laced with fear.

Jin took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. “Don’t worry, I’m here. Just calm Jungkook down, okay?”

Taehyung nodded quickly and focused on soothing Jungkook, but the air was thick with tension.

Something was very, very wrong.

Jin heard Hobi and Namjoon’s frantic voices through the earpiece.

“Hyung! Hyung! Are you okay? Hyung, answer us!”

Jin took a deep breath, his mind racing. “I’m fine. It’s an attack. I need backup.”

His eyes darted to Yoongi’s car, which had pulled up beside his. The door flew open, and Yoongi rushed out.

“Hyung, are you okay?” Yoongi asked, worry evident in his voice.

Jin nodded, though his face was tense. He stepped out of the car, scanning the area.

“What the fuck was that, hyung?” Yoongi asked, looking around warily.

Jin clenched his jaw. “I don’t know. I think it’s an attack. Ahh, these fuckers!” His voice dripped with frustration.

Just then, Hyunwoo came running toward them. “I’ve already informed security to check the area. Don’t worry,” he said.

“But Samc—” Jin started, but before he could finish, another explosion rang out.

BOOM!

Jin’s eyes widened. His first instinct was Jimin. Without a second thought, he rushed toward the car and yanked Jimin’s door open.

“Jimin, come here!” he ordered.

Jimin barely had time to react before Jin grabbed him, pulling him out of Yoongi’s car and into his own.

“Stay inside with Jungkook! Don’t come out, no matter what!” Jin commanded, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Jimin slid into the seat beside Jungkook, his hands shaking. Before he could say anything, Jin slammed the door shut and locked it.

Inside the car, Taehyung and Jimin sat frozen.

Jungkook, still unconscious, flinched violently in his sleep, his breathing uneven.

Taehyung placed a protective hand on his head. “Kook, I’m here. Nothing’s happening… Just sleep, okay?” he whispered.

Jungkook whimpered but snuggled closer to Taehyung’s warmth.

Outside, gunfire erupted.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Jimin and Taehyung flinched at the deafening sounds of bullets flying. Their eyes met—both filled with fear.

Taehyung tried to open the car door, but it was locked. His hands trembled as he pulled Jungkook even closer, shielding him.

Outside the Car

Jin’s eyes snapped to a figure moving toward his car.

His blood boiled.

Without hesitation, he lunged at the man, gripping his collar before slamming his fist into his face.

“You motherfucking bastard! How dare you, huh?!” Jin roared, throwing another punch.

The man groaned in pain, blood dripping from his nose.

Jin didn’t stop. He landed several more blows until the man collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

Meanwhile, Yoongi was shooting down the attackers with deadly precision.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Namjoon and Hobi were fighting too, dodging bullets and taking out enemies.

Their guards had arrived and were engaging in combat, but the enemy was strong.

The air was filled with gunshots, smoke, and chaos.

Jin wiped the sweat off his brow, his breathing heavy. His mind screamed only one thing—

He had to protect his brothers. No matter what.
