Chapter 46
Two Days After Jin’s Recovery
The air in the house felt heavy — thick with grief and silence. Jin had barely moved from his room, his mind consumed by guilt.
Suho, too, had locked himself away, refusing to see anyone. Everyone knew the truth — Jin wasn’t to blame. They all knew that. Even Suho knew. But the pain of losing his mother so suddenly, so violently… it was too much. He just needed time — time to grieve, time to breathe.
Jin, on the other hand, wasn’t just grieving — he was drowning. No matter what anyone said, he couldn’t escape the weight crushing his chest. He refused to eat, refused to speak. His body grew weak, and soon, he was surviving only on IV drips.
“Hyungie…” Tae’s voice trembled as he sat beside Jin, clutching his cold hand. “Please… please say something. I’m here, hyung… I’m here for you.” His voice cracked, tears rolling down his face.
Jin barely shifted, his lifeless eyes staring at nothing.
“Please, hyung… I know you’re hurting… but none of this was your fault.” Tae’s voice broke, desperate and shaky. He grabbed Jin’s face gently, forcing him to look at him. “It was an accident… please… stop blaming yourself.”
Jin’s eyes wavered. His lips trembled, and finally — finally — tears spilled down his cheeks.
“I… I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…” Jin’s voice broke into sobs as he clung to Tae tightly, his body shaking with years’ worth of bottled pain.
“It’s okay… hyung, it’s okay…” Tae whispered, stroking Jin’s hair. “I trust you… I always will. You didn’t mean for this to happen… you didn’t.”
For the first time in days, Jin felt like he could breathe again. Tae’s warmth, his comfort — it was the only thing holding him together.
Days Later
Jin finally felt strong enough to face Suho. He knew things wouldn’t be the same, but he had to try. Gathering his courage, he went to Suho’s apartment — only to find it empty.
Confused and anxious, Jin hurried to the base after receiving a call from Kim.
“Where’s Suho hyung?” Jin asked coldly the moment he entered.
Kim barely looked up, his expression unreadable. “He left,” he said flatly.
“Left?” Jin’s brow furrowed. “Where did he go?”
“New Zealand.” Kim said. No emotion was there.
Jin froze. His heart stopped for a beat, then hammered violently against his ribs. “What the fuck are you talking about?” His voice shook.
Without a word, Kim pulled something from his pocket — Suho’s SIM card. Jin’s heart dropped.
“He didn’t want to see your face again,” Kim said coldly. “He’s furious with you. He knows you’re the reason his mother’s dead.”
Jin’s world tilted. The room spun.
“No… no, that’s not true… he—,” Jin whispered, his voice breaking.
“Don’t fool yourself,” Kim sneered. “He hates you now. He couldn’t even stand to say goodbye.”
Jin didn’t move. He didn’t cry. He didn’t even breathe. There was nothing left in him — no tears, no strength. Just emptiness.
Kim continued to blame Jin. And Jin started thinking the cause of youngmi’s death was him.
Later that evening, when Jin told the others, he left out Kim’s cruel words.
“Suho hyung… he went to New Zealand,” Jin said quietly, his voice hollow.
No anger. No bitterness. Just pain — a quiet, suffocating pain that sat heavy in his chest.
Three Months After the Incident
In the months that followed Youngmi’s death, Jin became a shadow of himself. He rarely spoke, barely acknowledging anyone around him. The warmth he once carried was gone — replaced by emptiness.
He moved through life like a puppet, doing whatever Kim ordered without question. His eyes no longer held their usual spark — just cold acceptance, as if he no longer cared what happened to him.
One day, Tae finally broke the silence.
“Hyung… why hasn’t Suho hyung contacted us?” Tae asked, his voice laced with concern.
Jin didn’t lift his head. “Because of me,” he said flatly, his voice barely above a whisper. “He’s gone because of me.”
The room fell silent, no one daring to speak. Jin’s quiet confession sat heavy in the air.
“Hyungie… It’s not your fault so please…” Tae tried again but Jin as usual left from there.
They all tried so many ways to make Jin better, but no use. Jin never listened to them
On one random day
Jin was driving home alone when his car jolted — a sharp, metallic pop echoing beneath him.
“A flat tire…” Jin muttered, pulling over on the deserted road. He sighed and grabbed his tools, stepping out to assess the damage. The road stretched out empty — no cars, no people — just eerie silence.
He knelt beside the car and started changing the tire, his fingers moving mechanically.
“Yoongi, my tire’s flat,” Jin spoke into his phone.
“I’m on my way hyung. Stay there,” Yoongi assured him.
Jin was halfway done when he felt a sharp, blinding pain sear across his back.
“Ahhh…” Jin groaned, stumbling forward. His hand shot to his back as he turned — only to find a rival gang member standing behind him, gripping a wooden bat.
“You… bastard…” Jin hissed through gritted teeth, his breathing uneven.
The man sneered. “You’re Kim Seokjin… you’re dead today.”
Before Jin could react, the rival swung the bat again — this time striking his forehead. Jin staggered, clutching his bleeding head as his vision blurred. His body swayed, too weak to stand.
“Damn it…” Jin gasped, his hand sticky with blood.
“I’ll make sure you never stand again,” the man growled, pulling a knife from his jacket.
Jin barely registered the glint of metal before the blade plunged into his stomach. His breath hitched. Pain exploded through his body as the rival twisted the knife cruelly.
Jin was stabbed
The distant sound of tires screeching reached Jin’s ears, and the attacker cursed under his breath before fleeing.
Jin’s knees buckled, and he collapsed to the ground, blood seeping from his wounds. His head spun, his vision growing darker.
“Jin hyung!!” Tae’s panicked scream rang out.
Tae and Yoongi sprinted toward him, their faces twisted with fear. Tae fell to his knees, grabbing Jin’s cold, trembling hand.
“Hyung… hyung, stay with me… please…” Tae’s voice cracked as tears streamed down his face. “Hyung, please wake up… hyung what happened to you.?? What is all this? Hyungiee..” tae cried. Yoongi was so starled to see Jin in that condition.
Jin’s chest rose and fell in shallow, uneven breaths.
“Tae…” Jin’s voice was faint, barely a whisper.
“Don’t talk… save your strength… please…” Tae begged desperately.
Yoongi knelt beside them, pressing his hands firmly on Jin’s stomach to stop the bleeding. “Hyung… Please stay with us.. please.” Yoongi said voice cracking.
“Hyung… you’re okay… you’re okay…” Tae kept repeating, his voice breaking. His tears fell freely, dripping onto Jin’s blood-stained shirt.
“Don’t leave me… please…” Tae cried, clutching Jin’s hand even tighter.
Jin’s eyes fluttered, his breathing weak and ragged.
“Tae… I’m sorry…” he mumbled, his voice barely audible.
“NO! Don’t say that! You’re not going anywhere, hyung! I won’t let you!” Tae cried harder, his sobs shaking his body.
“Yoongi, drive faster!” Tae screamed as Yoongi carried Jin to the car.
“Hyung… please… don’t leave me… I can’t lose you too…” Tae whispered brokenly, holding Jin’s cold hand tightly the whole way to the hospital.
In the hospital
Jin was in the operation theater, and the doctors were doing everything they could to save him. Outside, the atmosphere was heavy with anxiety and grief.
Tae sat on one of the chairs, his face buried in his hands, crying uncontrollably. Everyone was there — Namjoon, Yoongi, Hobi, and jimin.
Even Hyunwoo to — who had just returned to Korea two weeks ago.
The room was silent except for Tae’s quiet sobs.
“Tae… hyung will be fine… please, don’t cry like this,” Namjoon tried to comfort him, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder.
But Tae didn’t stop. He just cried harder, his breaths shaky and uneven.
“You guys are… Idiots…” Tae choked out between sobs.
Yoongi knelt beside him, hugging him tightly. “Nothing’s going to happen to Jin hyung, I promise… please, Tae, calm down…” Yoongi whispered.
But Tae suddenly pushed Yoongi away, weakly punching his chest in frustration.
“Why… why are you guys like this?! Idiots… Stupid idiots!” Tae sobbed, his voice trembling with anger and heartbreak.
Everyone froze, confused by his sudden outburst.
“Why… why are you all still in the mafia?!” Tae yelled, tears streaming down his face. “Just leave it! Please… I can’t lose any of you too… Please, just leave it… I’m begging you…” His voice cracked as his sobs overtook him.
“Tae… please understand… don’t cry like this,” Hyunwoo tried to calm him down.
But Tae’s tear-filled eyes locked onto him with a glare.
“Understand?!” Tae shouted. “Will you… will you give me the assurance that you’ll stay alive? Can you promise me that?! Tell me!” His voice broke as he pointed at each of them. Jimin was crying too.
No one could answer.
Yoongi lowered his head, Namjoon and Hobi stared at the floor, and Hyunwoo couldn’t even look Tae in the eyes. The silence was deafening. Jimin was kept looking at tae.
“Appa…” jimin’s voice quivered. “We’ve always asked you to leave the mafia… We’ve seen what you all go through… Even if you don’t tell us, we see it… We aren’t blind…” His voice broke again.
“Tae… Jimin… let’s talk about this later, okay?” Yoongi tried to calm them down.
But Tae’s voice rose again, raw with pain.
“No! I asked a question!” Tae shouted. “Can you promise me that no rival will come for you? Can you promise me that Jin hyung or you guys won’t end up like this again?! How… how are we supposed to live like this?! Always waiting… always panicking… always scared that one of you might never come back!”
His voice broke completely as he sobbed harder.
“You lied to us… over and over again…” Jimin spoke, his words now shaky. “You said you were fine every time, but we saw the blood when you came home… We knew you weren’t okay… After Suho hyung left, none of you even cared about yourselves anymore…” jimin’s voice cracked painfully.
Tae spoke “We have no idea what’s going on… but hyungs, please… we love you… We’re here too… You can’t shut us out like this… We can’t live without you… We’re family… and family is supposed to protect each other… but you never let us protect you…”
By now, Jimin was crying hard too, his voice trembling as he spoke.
“Hyungs… don’t you trust us enough to share your pain?” Jimin whispered.
Yoongi couldn’t hold it in anymore. He rushed forward and hugged Jimin tightly, his own tears finally falling.
“Chim… it’s not like that… it’s never been like that…” Yoongi choked out. “You both are our world… We didn’t tell you because we were scared… Scared that the rivals would come after you too… Scared that if you knew too much, you’d get hurt… We just wanted to protect you… We never wanted you to feel this pain…”
Jimin’s sobs shook against Yoongi’s chest, and Yoongi held him even tighter.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…” Yoongi whispered.
Tae broke down completely, his cries turning into desperate gasps for air. Hyunwoo knelt beside him, pulling Tae into his arms.
“Tae… we’re sorry… I’m so sorry…” Hyunwoo whispered into his hair. “But you need to be strong right now… for Jin… please…”
The room was filled with quiet sobs and whispered apologies as they held each other tightly, each one desperate not to lose another part of their family.
Hours later, the doctor finally came out of the operation room. Everyone stood anxiously, hearts pounding.
“Kim seokjin-ssi is stable now,” the doctor announced. “He’s out of danger, but he’ll need plenty of rest. You can visit him after 10 hours.”
The tension in the room broke as everyone exhaled deeply, relief washing over them.
“Thank God…” Yoongi whispered, his voice shaking.
Tae wiped his tear-streaked face, his body still trembling.
“He’s okay… hyung’s okay…” Tae whispered, as if trying to convince himself.
“Yeah… he’s okay,” Jimin said softly, gripping Tae’s hand tightly.
And for the first time in what felt like forever… they felt hope again.
Few months later…
“Here, bear… eat now,” Jin said softly, holding a spoonful of food to Tae’s mouth.
Tae whined dramatically before finally taking the bite from Jin’s hand.
In these past months, Jin had come a long way — physically and mentally. Hobi, being the sweetest and most patient person, helped Jin recover emotionally. As a newly certified psychiatrist, Hobi had spent countless hours helping Jin cope with his guilt and trauma. Everyone believed Jin had fully recovered — that he’d finally returned to his normal self.
But deep down, Jin still carried the weight of his guilt — a burden he couldn’t shake off. No matter how hard he tried to move on, thoughts of Suho. It always haunted him. Jin had tried several times to contact Suho, to explain everything… but Kim’s manipulative lies had poisoned Jin’s mind. Kim had convinced Jin that Suho hated him to the core now, blaming him for everything. Eventually, Jin gave up trying.
“Hyung… this grumpy grandpa is turning into a real grandpa soon,” Jimin teased, eyeing Jin with a grin. “All he does is sleep like a lazy cat these days!”
Jin chuckled.
Jimin flinched when a pillow came flying at him, landing right on his face.
“Yah! What the heck!” Jimin shouted, glaring at Yoongi, who simply smirked and shrugged. Jimin grabbed the pillow, ready to throw it back when Jin spoke.
“Uh… Tae, Jimin… can I talk to you both for a moment?” Jin’s voice was hesitant, almost nervous.
Both turned to him curiously.
“I… we… we left the mafia,” Jin finally said, his voice firm yet uncertain.
Jimin and Tae’s eyes widened in shock.
“R-really?” Tae stuttered, barely believing his ears.
Jin nodded. “Yeah… really. We’re done with that life. We’re out for good.”
Tae’s face lit up with a wide smile.
“Even Appa?” Tae asked, his voice softer this time.
Jin swallowed hard. For a brief second, he hesitated… but then he forced a smile and nodded.
“Yeah… even Appa,” Jin lied, his heart heavy.
Tae’s smile widened even more. Without warning, Tae leapt forward and hugged Jin tightly.
“Thank you… thank you so much, hyungie…” Tae whispered, his voice breaking slightly.
Jimin joined in, wrapping his arms around them both. “Our grumpy grandpas finally did something right,” Jimin teased, earning a laugh from everyone.
In that moment, Jin promised himself something — a silent vow to protect Tae and Jimin from the darkness he’d once been a part of.
He never told them about BTS — their underground group still operating in the shadows. He kept that truth buried inside, believing they didn’t need to know. After all, Jin thought Suho was living peacefully in New Zealand… far away from this life.
For the first time in months, Jin felt like things were finally… normal.
But deep down, he knew better.
