Chapter 49

Meanwhile with Tae

After leaving Jungkook’s room, Taehyung walked straight to his own. He didn’t stop, didn’t look back-he just needed to be alone. As soon as he stepped inside, he locked the door behind him.

His legs felt weak. He slid down against the door, hugging his knees to his chest as the weight of everything crashed down on him.

And then, he cried.

Tears streamed down his face, his sobs muffled against his arms. He had been holding it in for so long, pretending he was okay, pretending it didn’t hurt-but it did. It hurt so much.

A knock on the door startled him. His breath hitched, but he didn’t move. He didn’t want to see anyone. After a few knocks, the sound faded away, leaving only his quiet sobs behind.

Dragging himself to his bed, he curled up into a ball, clutching his pillow tightly. His mind replayed everything-Jungkook’s broken state at the event, the way his brothers fought with the rivals, how Jin and the others broke their promise.

He felt betrayed.

Tears blurred his vision as he reached out for a small frame on his bedside table. His fingers trembled as he held the photo close to his chest.

“Eo-eomma… hyungie lied to me again,” he whimpered, his voice shaking. “He’s a baddie… I won’t talk to him. He broke his promise again. He… he even slapped me yesterday.”

His grip on the frame tightened.

“Why is he like this? Always keeping things to himself, never sharing anything with me? I’m his brother, but he forgets that. He doesn’t trust me.”

His sobs grew louder.

“He’s meanie…”

He stared at the photo in his hands, his mother’s warm smile frozen in time.

“I don’t know what happened to Kook… he used to be so bright, so happy. But now… he’s so cold. He said he hates us… why? Is it because we left him alone?”

The thought alone made Taehyung’s heart ache.

“Appa… is he a good person?” he whispered.

He blinked through his tears, confusion settling in.

“Why won’t anyone tell me the truth? Why does Appa and Hyung always fight?”

He had always believed they were getting along, but today, he saw it clearly-they weren’t. They never were.

They were always fighting. Always hiding things from him.

Why?

His thoughts kept spiraling, Jungkook’s broken voice echoing in his ears.

“I hate you all. I don’t care about anyone.”

Taehyung’s lips trembled. Jungkook’s words had hurt more than anything. Even if they weren’t true, even if he had said them in anger… it still hurt.

And for the first time, Taehyung started questioning everything.

Was his father really a good person?

What had Jungkook gone through all these years?

Why did Jin always hide the truth?

His chest ached, his eyes burning with unshed tears. He buried his face into his pillow, letting silent sobs rack his body.

He didn’t want to doubt his family.

But now, he wasn’t sure if he even knew them at all.

With Haein

Haein gripped the steering wheel tightly, her mind restless. The drive to the Queen Building was short, but it felt longer with the storm of thoughts swirling inside her head.

As she parked her car, she stepped out with an air of authority, her heels clicking against the polished floors as she entered the building.

The moment her employees saw her, they immediately straightened up. She walked past them, giving quick instructions, her voice sharp yet calm.

She had always been like this—in control, composed.

But today, she couldn’t shake off the worry gnawing at her chest.

It was Jungkook.

She barely sat down in her chair before she pulled out her phone, dialing a familiar number.

The call rang for a few seconds before a hesitant voice answered.

“H-Haein?”

Hyunwoo’s nervous tone made her frown.

“Where are you, Uncle?” she asked, her voice steady.

“I… I’m with Hyung, in a meeting… Why?”

Haein exhaled sharply, leaning back against her chair.

“How is Kook? Is he fine?” She asked her voice was so calm.

There was silence. She heard a faint gulp from the other side before Hyunwoo finally spoke.

“Jin said his fever reduced. He’s at the mansion, resting. Taehyung is with him.”

Haein’s fingers tapped against the desk, her jaw tightening.

“Hmm… I’ll meet Kim this evening.” She said.

Before Hyunwoo could respond, she hung up.

Hyunwoo stared at his phone, his hands trembling slightly. His throat went dry.

She’s going to meet Kim?

His heart pounded.

This wasn’t going to end well.

Haein let out a small sigh and shifted her focus back to the stack of papers in front of her. Though her heart was slightly at ease knowing that Jungkook was resting fine, her mind was still unsettled.

She grabbed her pen, ready to dive back into work, but the sudden vibration of her phone made her pause. Without glancing at the caller ID, she picked up the call.

“Hello?” She spoke

A deep male voice responded. “Um… Park Haein-ssi?”

She frowned slightly, pulling her phone away to check the number—unknown.

“Yes, it’s me. Who is this?” she asked, her tone calm but slightly cautious.

“It’s me, Kim Namjoon. We met yesterday.”

Recognition dawned on her.

“Ah… I remember. What do you need?” she asked, flipping a page in her notebook.

“As you know, we’re supposed to start the project. When will you be joining?” Namjoon asked, his voice was calm.

Haein paused, holding her phone properly now, giving him her full attention.

“I planned to be there this afternoon. Will you all be free?” She asked playing with her pen.

There was a brief silence, followed by a muffled voice.

“Hyung… she says she’ll come in the afternoon. Is that okay?” She heard namjoon asking someone

Another voice, deeper and more familiar, responded.

“Okay, tell her to come.” It was Jin and she regognised instantly.

Namjoon returned to the call. “You can come.”

“To the Bangtan building itself?” she clarified.

“Yes.” He said

Haein hummed in acknowledgment. “Alright, I will be there.”

Without another word, she ended the call.

She placed the phone down and exhaled. The meeting was set, but something inside her felt heavy.

She brushed off the feeling and returned to work, her fingers gripping the pen a little tighter than before.

With jin

Jin walked into his office cabin, shutting the door behind him before collapsing onto the couch. He closed his eyes, exhaustion washing over him. His mind was heavy, filled with regret, guilt, and frustration.

The sound of the door opening pulled him out of his thoughts. He looked up to see Yoongi entering the room, dragging himself to a chair before slumping down.

“Hyung…” Yoongi whined, his voice laced with frustration.

Jin sat up straight. “What happened, Yoongs?”

Yoongi sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair. “Jimin fought with me today.”

Jin raised a brow. “Then?”

“I scolded him too harshly… and then I just walked away. He was crying, and I didn’t even stay to comfort him. I’m such an idiot.” Yoongi groaned, gripping his hair in frustration.

Jin sighed, nodding in understanding. “Tae isn’t even looking at me. He’s so angry on me, I think he said too”

Yoongi finally looked at him, concern flickering in his eyes. “Should we talk to them this evening?”

Jin shook his head. “No, let’s talk to them when they’re ready.” His voice was tired, defeated.

Just then, the door opened again, and Namjoon walked in. He took a seat beside Jin, his sharp gaze scanning the two older men.

“Hyung… is everything okay?” Namjoon asked cautiously to Jin seeing his distressed expression.

Jin let out a bitter chuckle. “Nothing is fine, Joon.”

Namjoon and Yoongi exchanged worried glances.

“What happened?” Namjoon pressed.

Jin exhaled deeply, rubbing his face with his hands. “I fought with Dad again.”

Namjoon’s jaw clenched. “In front of Tae?”

Jin nodded. “Yeah… in morning…” He said everything, his voice softer now. “Then I saw Jungkook, but he just… he just lashed out at me, Joon. He screamed, told me he didn’t care about any of us. He said he hates us.” He said about jungkook’s outburst too.

The room fell into silence.

Jin looked down at his hands. “I don’t know what is happening and what is gonna happen.”

Yoongi and Namjoon remained quiet, the weight of Jin’s words settling over them like a suffocating blanket. None of them had the answers, but they all knew one thing—Jungkook was slipping away. And they didn’t know what happened to him.

After some silence, Namjoon patted Jin’s shoulder reassuringly. “Hyung, don’t worry. Everything will be fine. Tae and Jimin will understand, and as for Jungkook… we just need to talk to him, give him time. Then let’s speak to him.”

Jin exhaled, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk. “I really hope so, Joon.”

He sat back in his chair, opening his computer and focusing on work. After a few moments, he turned to Namjoon. “Can you call Park Haein and ask when she’ll be joining us?”

Namjoon nodded, stepping aside to make the call.

After namjoon spoke to haein, he and yoongi saw Jin being lost.

Jin leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. His brows furrowed as he stared at the screen, lost in thought. “I think there’s something more between her and Jungkook. She really cares for him a lot. Did you both see how he calmed down after Haein spoke to him?”

Yoongi nodded, resting his chin on his hand. “Yeah… but didn’t Jungkook say he only knew her because she came to the house for work?”

Jin sighed, twirling a pen between his fingers. “That’s what he said… but something doesn’t add up. There’s more to this than we know, and I’ll figure it out.” His voice was laced with determination.

Namjoon and Yoongi exchanged glances, sensing the weight of Jin’s suspicions.

After some time, Yoongi suddenly turned to Jin. “By the way, hyung, did you even eat breakfast?”

Jin shook his head. “I don’t have an appetite.”

Namjoon and Yoongi immediately stood up, exchanging a knowing look before grabbing Jin by his arms.

“No excuses. You’re eating now.” Namjoon said firmly.

“Hyung, you can’t do work if you starve yourself,” Yoongi added, dragging him out of the office.

Jin groaned but let them lead him to the café downstairs, his heart a little lighter despite the chaos still lingering in his mind.
