Chapter 50
With Eunwoo
He was in his class, lost in his own world, completely unaware of his surroundings. His mind was still disturbed by last night’s incidents-he was so worried about his best friend… (Sorry sorry about his ex-best friend.)
It was a literature class, but Eunwoo wasn’t listening to anything. He was too deep in his own thoughts.
He flinched when he suddenly heard his name being called.
“Park Eunwoo!!”
Eunwoo snapped out of his trance and looked at the teacher. His eyes darted around the classroom, only to find everyone staring at him.
“H-Huh?” he asked in confusion.
The teacher sighed. “I’ve been calling you for the past two minutes. Where are you lost?”
Eunwoo quickly stood up, bowed, and muttered, “S-Sorry, sir.”
The teacher shook his head and gestured toward the door. “Step outside for a while and gather yourself.”
Eunwoo nodded, biting his lower lip, and walked out of the classroom. Chaeyoung, who had been watching him with concern, glanced toward the door as he left.
Outside, Eunwoo headed straight to the restroom. He splashed cold water on his face and stared at his reflection in the mirror.
“Eunwoo… nothing is happening. Everything is fine. He is no one to you… so why are you thinking about him?” he muttered to himself, gripping the edge of the sink. “Kim Jungkook is no one to you. He left you. Just stop thinking about him.”
As if trying to convince himself, he exhaled sharply, splashed more water on his face, and walked out.
Instead of going back to class, he made his way to the basketball court. The place was empty.
He sighed, grabbed a ball, and started playing.
The rhythmic sound of the ball bouncing against the ground echoed through the court, helping him clear his mind. But just as he was starting to feel a little better, he heard a familiar voice.
“Yah! Park Eunwoo!”
Chaeyoung’s loud yell made him stop. He turned around, chuckling as he shot the ball into the basket one more time.
“Yah, you moron!” Chaeyoung ran up to him and smacked his head.
“Ahhh! Wae??” Eunwoo whined, rubbing the spot she hit.
“What’s wrong with you, huh?” she asked, crossing her arms.
Eunwoo looked away, tossing the ball in his hands. “What do you mean? Nothing’s wrong with me.”
Chaeyoung glared at him, clearly not buying his act. Without warning, she snatched the ball from his hands.
“Yah! What are you doing?!” Eunwoo whined again, reaching out for it.
But before he could grab it, Chaeyoung threw the ball far away, making him groan in frustration.
“Aish! Why did you do that?” he complained.
Chaeyoung smirked. “Because you need to stop pretending, Park Eunwoo. Talk to me properly.”
Eunwoo sighed, shaking his head. “There’s nothing to talk about.”
Chaeyoung wasn’t convinced. She could see through him.
And she wasn’t going to let him run away from his feelings.
Eunwoo glared at her and went to grab the ball, but Chaeyoung held his hand.
“Chaeyoung, mwoya?” Eunwoo whined.
Chaeyoung made him look at her and asked softly, “What happened, Eun?”
Eunwoo looked away, trying to pull his hand free from her grip while mumbling, “N-Nothing happened to me… I am fine… W-Why? Just leave my hand, na.”
His voice wavered, and his eyes started becoming glossy. Chaeyoung sighed, cupping his chin gently and making him look at her.
“Eun… something is wrong. What happened?” she asked softly again.
Eunwoo avoided her gaze, biting his lip. “N-Nothing… I… I am f-fine,” he stuttered, his eyes filling with tears.
Chaeyoung sighed and cupped his face. “If you’re fine, then why are you crying, huh?” she asked softly.
And that was it.
Eunwoo lost it.
He suddenly pulled Chaeyoung into a hug and started crying like a child. He didn’t say anything-he just cried and cried, gripping onto her tightly.
Chaeyoung sighed, wrapping her arms around him, gently caressing his back. Just focusing on giving care to him.
After a few minutes, Eunwoo broke the hug, sniffled, and wiped his tears.
“T-Thank you,” he mumbled.
Chaeyoung smiled in surprise and said, “Daebakkkkkkk… did you just say thank you to me?! Woah, I’m in shock! Ahh, it’s definitely going to rain today!” she said dramatically.
Eunwoo rolled his eyes. “Did everyone hear that? He said thank you to me!” Chaeyoung started shouting, making a scene.
Eunwoo rubbed his temples and chuckled before covering Chaeyoung’s mouth with his hand. “Shut up, drama queen,” he said, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and dragging her away.
Chaeyoung smiled, feeling relieved. Seeing Eunwoo act like himself again eased her worries. She didn’t ask him anything further—she already knew he wouldn’t tell her.
But Eunwoo was still lost in thoughts about Jungkook.
He didn’t know why, but he felt an odd mix of guilt and protectiveness toward him. Yet, his ego held him back.
He thought about their rivalry, about how Jungkook had drifted away from him. Everything felt so overwhelming.
He couldn’t even express how much he still cared for his best friend—no no for his ex-best friend—because of one fight… No no. Because of one massive fight that had torn them apart, buried under layers of misunderstandings, lies, and hidden truths.
With Tae
Tae had fallen asleep unknowingly while crying. He woke up when he heard his phone ringing. Sighing, he reached for it and saw Namjoon’s name on the screen.
He let out a deep breath before answering the call but didn’t say anything, waiting for Namjoon to speak first.
“Tae?” Namjoon’s voice came through.
“Hmm?” Tae hummed in response.
“Tae… w-we are sorr—” Namjoon started, but Tae cut him off.
“Hyung, why did you call?” Tae asked, his voice calm.
Namjoon sighed before replying. “What are you doing, Tae?”
“Nothing much. Why?” Tae asked.
“Did you and Kook eat?” Namjoon asked.
“No, we’re about to,” Tae answered shortly.
“Hmm… take care, Tae. And we’re really sorry—” Namjoon tried again, but Tae interrupted.
“I will take care, hyung. And… why are you guys even apologizing? You did nothing wrong. It’s my fault for trusting you all,” Tae said bitterly.
“Tae…” Namjoon started, but Tae didn’t let him continue.
“Anything else, hyung?” Tae asked, his tone distant.
Namjoon sighed in defeat, and Tae ended the call.
He glanced at the time. It was 2 in the afternoon.
Tae freshened up before heading to Jungkook’s room. Slowly, he opened the door and noticed how dark it was. Only a faint ray of light seeped in. He sighed and stepped inside, his eyes landing on Jungkook’s sleeping figure.
Turning on the lights, Tae saw Jungkook curled up, holding his phone in his hand while sleeping. He walked closer and carefully took the phone from Jungkook’s grasp, placing it aside.
Sitting silently on the bed, he gazed at his younger brother, who was sleeping peacefully with a small pout on his lips. Tae smiled sadly and thought to himself,
“I… I’m sorry, Kook. I didn’t know the secret was about you. I really had no idea. I’m so sorry. I promise to protect you. I won’t leave you. I’m sorry…”
His eyes welled up with tears, but he forced himself to hold them back.
“Kook,” Tae called softly, trying to wake him.
“Kookie… wake up, bun,” Tae said gently.
Jungkook squirmed in his sleep before slowly opening his eyes. He whimpered at the sudden brightness, adjusting his vision before looking around. His sleepy gaze landed on Tae, and he frowned slightly in confusion. As his vision cleared, he noticed the puffiness around Tae’s eyes.
He was thinking how tae is still being soft with him after his morning outburst on them.
“K-Kook… eat lunch first, then you can go back to sleep,” Tae said hesitantly, his voice laced with concern.
Jungkook sighed and sat up, looking away. “I… I don’t have an appetite—”
“No excuses. You have to eat,” Tae cut him off, his tone firm yet caring.
Jungkook sighed again but nodded. “Should I bring it here?” Tae asked.
“No, I’ll come downstairs,” Jungkook muttered before heading to freshen up.
Tae let out a breath and ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. He stood up and noticed the empty dishes from earlier. Gathering them, he headed downstairs.

Once Tae came downstairs, he headed to the kitchen, where a maid greeted him with a respectful bow. He returned the gesture and asked politely, “Noona, can you prepare something healthy for Kook?” His voice was calm, without any authority or dominance.
“Sure, sir,” one of the maids responded. Tae nodded and walked to the fridge, grabbing two bottles of banana milk.
Making his way to the living room, he spotted Jungkook already sitting on the couch. Tae sighed quietly and approached him, taking a seat beside him while maintaining some distance.
Hesitantly, Tae placed one of the banana milk bottles next to Jungkook. Noticing the gesture, Jungkook glanced at him briefly.
“D-Drink,” Tae muttered.
Jungkook looked at the banana milk and, without hesitation, picked it up and started drinking while watching TV. The news was on—it was about the Kim family.
Tae turned his attention to the screen, but in reality, most of his focus remained on Jungkook. The younger boy seemed engrossed, switching his attention between the TV and his banana milk, his expression unreadable.
The reporter was speaking about Bangtan’s business ventures.
“… And they are set to launch new branches and projects worldwide. We are really excited to see what they have planned,” she announced enthusiastically.
Then, the screen changed, displaying Jungkook’s picture. Tae immediately leaned forward, his body tensing. Jungkook, on the other hand, remained nonchalant, sipping his banana milk.
“Kim Jungkook… the youngest Kim. He was officially revealed last night. He is 19 years old and currently a university student. Citizens have welcomed him with open hearts. However…” the reporter paused before continuing, “some are expressing their hate too, claiming that he is the reason for Kim Yoona-ssi’s death. Reports say that she died while trying to savin—”
Before she could finish, Tae abruptly turned off the TV. The room fell into silence.
Jungkook turned to Tae, frowning slightly. “Why did you turn it off?”
Tae exhaled sharply, masking his emotions. “There’s nothing worth watching. They’re just trying to spread baseless rumors. Come on, let’s eat,” he said calmly, standing up.
Jungkook narrowed his eyes slightly, sensing something was off. But he chose to shrug it off, convincing himself that it was just another false rumor. He didn’t know that the so-called “rumor” might actually be the truth.
Deep down, he refused to believe the rumour as he already believed that yoona only hated him and just abandoned him
Right now, Tae and Jungkook were eating. Neither of them spoke; they just sat in silence, focusing on their food. Tae glanced at Jungkook from time to time.
Jungkook finished his food and was about to leave, but he stopped when Tae called him.
“Kook.” Tae’s voice was soft and gentle.
Jungkook turned around and asked, “Nae?”
“Umm… can you wait for a bit in the living room?” Tae asked hesitantly.
Jungkook sighed but nodded before walking toward the living room. Tae sighed as well and followed Jungkook.
