Chapter 63
The next day, With Jungkook
He was in his class during the first period. “So, guys, ready to get the results?” Miss Shin asked, and all the students responded in unison, “Yes!”
Jungkook remained calm, casually scribbling in his notebook. “So… there’s a bit of a change in our rank order this time,” the teacher said, chuckling, making the students whisper among themselves.
“So, the first rank goes to Kim Jungkook and Park Chaeyoung. Both of them got first place,” Miss Shin announced. The room buzzed with murmurs. Chaeyoung and Jungkook stood up, bowed to the teacher, and received their rank sheets.
“Good job, Jungkook. Even though you joined just a few months ago, you’ve done so well. Keep it up,” the teacher praised him. Jungkook nodded, bowed again, and returned to his seat. The class clapped in unison.
“And Park Eunwoo got second place, as usual,” Miss Shin said with a tired expression.
Eunwoo, who was lost in his own world, looked up, clearly zoned out. “Yah, Park Eunwoo,” Miss Shin called out.
He blinked and stood up, confused. “Nae?” he asked. “Get your rank card, mister,” she said, clearly done with him.
Eunwoo nodded, walked over, and took the card. As he glanced at it, he covered his mouth in shock. “Woah… I got a centum in theory? Bravo!!” he muttered to himself.
“I still don’t understand how you’re scoring like this when you sleep through class and skip it half the time. Your name is on both the troublemaker and topper lists,” Miss Shin said, clearly amused.
Eunwoo chuckled, looked at her, and replied dramatically “Because I’m Park Eunwoo.”
“Yah!” she said again, shaking her head.
Eunwoo bowed and returned to his seat, still chuckling. The teacher continued distributing the rest of the rank cards.
“And as I mentioned earlier, you must bring your parent or guardian tomorrow. No excuses,” she said firmly.
All the students responded together, “Yes!”
During the Break
Jungkook was sitting quietly in his place, doing his work silently while listening to music. He stopped writing when he noticed Junwoo standing in front of him with an ugly smirk on his face.
Jungkook sighed in frustration and looked up at Junwoo with a “What the fuck do you want?” expression.
“Yah, Kim Jungkook!” Junwoo raised his voice.
Jungkook removed one of his earpieces and said, “Mwo?”
“Yah, what’s with your attitude, huh? Are you acting all high and mighty because you’re popular now?” Junwoo snapped.
Jungkook just sighed, looked back down at his notebook, and started writing again.
Seeing Jungkook ignore him, Junwoo angrily swept the notes and things off Jungkook’s desk.
Jungkook gritted his teeth, holding back his anger, his eyes fixed on nothing in particular.
Junwoo spoke “Yah, do you think you’re some kind of hero or what? Are you mute or something? Always being a bookworm, never talking to anyone. What, do you think if you speak to us, your prestigious image will drop or something? Look at that poker face. What a boring face. Are you a robot or something? Just a piece of motherf—”.
He stopped mid-sentence when Jungkook looked up, staring straight into his eyes, he was glaring at junwoo as if he would kill him.
That one glare was enough to make Junwoo gulp.
“Yah, why are you looking at me like that? Trying to act like a hero?” Junwoo continued, trying to sound bold, but his voice wavered.
He fell silent as Jungkook stood up suddenly, his chair scraping loudly against the floor.
Junwoo instinctively stepped back. “Yah, what are you—-” he stopped when he saw Jungkook pick up his scattered things, after shooting him a dead glare.
The whole class was now watching the scene unfold in silence.
“Yah, are you crazy, you psycho?” Junwoo shouted and kicked Jungkook on the shoulder, making him wince.
Jungkook gritted his teeth in anger, but before he could react, he heard Eunwoo’s voice.
“Yah, Junwoo-yah! Wanna play one-on-one, huh? It’s been a long time, right? What do you say?” Eunwoo had just arrived and seen Junwoo kick Jungkook. He leaned casually against the doorway as he spoke.
“You moron, came to the rescue again, huh?” Junwoo sneered.
Eunwoo walked up to him with a tight smile and wrapped his arm around Junwoo’s shoulders.
“Why the hell would I stop you from beating that fucking moran Jungkook, huh? He is so boring anyway! I just thought I’d play with you a little,” he said with a bright, almost playful smile.
Jungkook, hearing this, scoffed in disbelief and quietly gathered his things, placing them back on his desk.
“Yah, don’t mess around, Eunwoo. Don’t act like a hero, moron,” Junwoo snapped.
“Then should I act like a villain, huh?” Eunwoo replied in a chilling, cold voice.
Junwoo gulped hearing that tone, but glared at him and roughly shrugged off Eunwoo’s arm.
“Yahhh!” Junwoo growled.
Eunwoo chuckled and looked at him. “Just kidding, bro,” he said casually, then turned his attention to Taehoon and walked over to him.
“Yah, Taehoon-ah, where’s Chaeyoung?” he asked, talking casually like nothing had happened.
Junwoo gave him a done look, then glanced at Jungkook, who was still glaring at him intensely.
Junwoo scoffed and finally walked away.
With Jin
He was in his cabin, looking through some files when he heard his phone ringing. It was Yoongi.
“Hyung!” Yoongi shouted from the other side.
“Ah, wae?” Jin asked. “Park Seok-min, he’s here.” Yoongi said. Jin’s eyes widened. “Huh? Why is he here?” he asked, confused.
“I don’t know. He said he wants to meet you,” Yoongi replied.
Jin sighed and got up from his chair. As he entered, he saw Park Seok-min sitting there with one leg crossed over the other.
“Ohhh, Seokjin-ah!” Seok-min greeted warmly as he stood up, smiling.
Jin gave a short smile and walked over to him, gesturing for him to sit back down.
“Ah, you’ve grown a lot. So handsome now. It’s been 12 years right ? I lastly saw you at your mother’s funeral. You’ve grown up well, so young and handsome huh?” Seok-min said fondly. But our Jin knew what is behind that sweet tone.
Jin chuckled softly and nodded. “Why are you here, Mr. Park?” he asked politely.
“Ah, I came to discuss a project with you. I spoke to your father, and he told me to talk to you directly,” Mr. Park explained.
Jin nodded in understanding. “Ah, nae. What is it about?” he asked. Mr. Park gestured to his assistant, who handed over a document. The assistant gave it to Jin. Jin took the file and began reading it.
After going through it for five minutes, he looked up at Mr. Park and asked, “So, your plan is to construct buildings for ths pproject, after making them leave their current homes and building over those areas, right?”
“Nae,” Mr. Park replied.
Jin placed the file back in front of Park and said firmly, “I’m sorry, I don’t think this will work out. Forcing people to suffer just to construct a building is not fair. If we destroy their homes, where will they go? You need to think this through. As Bangtan’s CEO, and as a citizen of Korea… I can’t support this, Mr. Park.”
Park Seok-min scoffed upon hearing Jin’s words. “Still playing the kind and caring man, huh? What a loser. You’ll regret not joining me, Jin,” he sneered.
“Ani, ani. Why should I regret it? I’ll actually feel relieved knowing I didn’t take part in something so stupid and harmful. Let’s just hope you won’t be the one regretting it, Mr. Park,” Jin replied with a tight, sharp smile as he stood up and bowed politely.
He was about to leave when Park’s voice stopped him. “Yah, Kim Seok-jin, what’s with you, huh? Do you think Bangtan will always stay at the top?” Park asked sarcastically.
Jin turned back with a calm yet deadly look and said, “Bangtan didn’t rise to the top by stepping on the weak. That’s why we’ll stay there longer than people like you ever will.”
Park gritted his teeth in frustration and looked away, clearly seething. He was about to retort when the door opened, revealing Haein.
“Seok-jin, the fi——” Haein paused mid-sentence as her eyes landed on Mr. Park.
“H-Haein-ah,” Mr. Park let out a whisper, barely audible, but enough for Jin to catch.
Haein, locking eyes with Park Seok-min, immediately gritted her teeth. She gave a stiff bow and said coldly, “Sorry, I’ll come later,” before turning around and walking out without another word.
Jin watched both of their expressions closely, Haein’s tension, Park’s scoff. Something wasn’t right.
Park Seok-min let out a bitter chuckle and looked at Jin. “What can I do when you guys have my daughter?” he said sarcastically, then turned and left the room.
Jin stood there, stunned. “His… daughter?” he mumbled to himself, confused.
Letting out a breath, he left the room and headed straight to Haein’s cabin.
Yoongi, who was talking to the manager nearby, noticed Jin walking briskly and frowned. What happened? he wondered, but decided to ask later.
Jin pushed open the door to Haein’s cabin. “Haein-ah,” he called out. Haein, busy scribbling notes, didn’t even look up. “Can’t you knock before coming in?” she muttered.
Jin sighed, ignoring her words. “Park Seok-min… is he your father?” he asked directly.
Haein froze mid-sentence. She slowly looked up to meet Jin’s gaze, his face serious, confused, searching for the truth.
“Nae, wae?” Haein asked calmly.
Jin’s eyebrows furrowed. “Mwo?” he asked, clearly surprised. “You never said he is your father,” Jin said.
“Because you never asked,” Haein replied, continuing to write in her notebook.
Jin scoffed in disbelief. “H-How did you even manage to join Bangtan when he’s our biggest rival?” he asked, confused.
“I never asked him,” Haein said simply. Jin’s confusion deepened. “Mwo?” he repeated.
Haein looked up at him, a faint smile playing on her lips “Confused, huh?” she said with a small chuckle.
“Yahh, tell me clearly,” Jin said, his voice now clearly frustrated and a bit angry.
“I never considered him my father, and he never considered me his daughter,” Haein replied casually, almost like she was talking about someone else’s life.
“Huh?” Jin blinked, taken aback. Haein sighed and leaned back in her chair.
“When my brother was three, I started living with my aunt. He was too busy with work after my mom died. He abandoned us that day. So we never saw him as a father figure. That’s it,.. simple,” she said, her tone distant, as if she rehearsed.
“So you’re telling me your dad abandoned you… left you and your brother with your aunt? And you’ve been living with her and your brother ever since?” Jin asked, his voice softer now.
Haein nodded. “My aunt was like our mom. We considered her as our real parent. But… she passed away a few years ago. So now it’s just me and my brother.”
Jin’s expression softened. His eyes were filled with sadness as he looked at her.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Here,” Haein said quickly, grabbing a paper from the desk and shoving it toward him. “Refer this.”
She looked down at her notebook again, pretending to write, even though her hand was still. She noticed Jin there still staring at her with sad eyes
“I’m not some tragic case, if that’s what you’re thinking. Life goes on. I’ve got a job, a home, and my brother. That’s enough.” Hae-in said looking at him
But despite the calm on her face, Jin noticed her knuckles turning white from how tightly she gripped the pen.
“Can you get back to your work, Mr. CEO?” Haein said as she began writing, focusing on her work. Jin sighed and replied with a chuckle, “Nae, ma’am.”
He understood that Haein didn’t want to talk about the past, so he decided not to push it any further.
Jin walked over to the table and picked up the file. Just as he was about to leave, he turned around and said, “There’s a dinner tonight. I arranged it to celebrate the completion of the project, you must join”
“Oh, nae. I’ll join,” Haein replied without looking up.
Jin nodded with a small smile and left the room.
With Taehyung
He was at the Architecture Festa, an exclusive event held in a grand museum. Only selected students were invited, just twenty of the best students from across the country.
Taehyung and Jimin, being the top students from their university, were among them. The two wandered through the museum, taking look at the masterpieces around them.
“Yah, Taehyung-ah, look at this! Isn’t it soooo good?” Jimin exclaimed, eyes wide with excitement.
Taehyung stepped closer, his expression softening with awe as he examined the intricate design. “Yeah… I wonder who created this,” he said, clearly impressed.
“Same here. Where’s the owner of th—” Jimin started, scanning the crowd, but his voice cut off when his eyes landed on someone.
He froze.
“J-Jaein,” he whispered under his breath.
Taehyung, noticing Jimin’s sudden change, looked over at him in confusion. “Yah, Jimin-ah?”
Jimin didn’t answer, he just stood frozen. Following his gaze, Taehyung turned to see the girl who had captured Jimin’s attention.
She was already looking at them. The moment Taehyung’s eyes met hers, his breath hitched. For a second, time stilled. But just as quickly, he turned away, expression unreadable, and walked off briskly.
Jimin watched him go, concern flickering across his face as he glanced back at the girl.
Taehyung was leaving. And he was furious.
Jimin sighed and looked at Jaein, who was still staring at Taehyung’s fading figure.
He stepped a little closer and said softly, “Hi j-jaein-ah… how are you?” His voice held a nervous edge.
Jaein turned to him with a gentle smile or… devilish smile. “I was fine, Why the hell is he here Mr Kim Jimin?”
Jimin laughed nervously and said “We are aldo participants dude, just take your time to calm down hmm? Let’s meet later” Jimin said and ran away.
Meanwhile Jaein was literally taking deep breaths to control herself, “Ahhh wae???” he scremed in low coice while stomping her legs,
“Why the fuck did I have to see that moran again?” she muttered to herself.
Grabbing her water bottle, she took a deep gulp, trying to steady her racing heart.
Meanwhile, with Taehyung
He was sitting alone in the auditorium, eyes red with suppressed anger, struggling to keep himself composed.
“She’s back again,” he thought bitterly.
“Taehyungie…” Jimin’s voice broke his thoughts. He had just arrived and took the seat beside him, offering a bottle of water. “Are you okay?”
Taehyung shot him a glare. “Do I look fine to you, mister?” he asked coldly.
Jimin gulped and motioned for Taehyung to drink the water. Taehyung sighed, grabbed the bottle, and took a long sip. The two sat in silence, tension heavy in the air.
Soon, all the students, teachers, and staff had gathered in the auditorium. One of the organizers walked up to the microphone.
“So, the winners have been decided. We will be dividing you into six groups. The first four groups will have three members each, while the last two groups will have four. The classification is based on your ranks and institutions. These selected teams will work together moving forward.”
“Yes!” all the students responded in unison.
“Now, let me announce the ranks,” the staff member continued. “All the designs were truly impressive. Honestly, we had a hard time deciding who would take first place. Want to know why?”
A wave of whispers rippled through the students.
“Because there were three outstanding designs. All three were equally incredible. So, after much discussion, we’ve made our decision. Let me begin with the winner of first place…” the staff said.
A short pause.
“The first place goes to… Kim Taehyung from Yonsei University!”
The crowd applauded as Taehyung stood up. Jimin grinned at him, and Taehyung forced a small smile before heading to the stage. He bowed respectfully to the audience. The staff member handed him a medal, certificate, and trophy.
“For the second place,” the announcer continued, “we honestly debated for hours. Both designs were phenomenal. So, we’ve decided to award second place to both the designs.”
A short gasp of surprise and applause spread through the room.
“The winners of second place are… Kim Jimin from Yonsei University and Yoon Jaein from Seoul National University!”
Jimin and Jaein stood up, smiles on their faces, and walked to the stage. They received their medals, certificates, and trophies. The crowd cheered, and photographers took several group pictures.
“Congratulations, you three!” the staff said, and the auditorium filled with applause and cheers.
Taehyung’s and Jaein’s eyes met for a brief second, but just as quickly, they both looked away, pretending not to notice each other. Silently, they returned to their seats.
The staff continued, “Now, let me announce the team divisions.”
“The first team will consist of Kang Jisu, Park Seojun, and Lee Hosu…”
The names were being called one after another.
“…And the fourth team will have, Kim Jimin, Kim Taehyung, and Yoon Jaein.”
Taehyung’s jaw clenched. He gritted his teeth, clearly struggling to contain his frustration. Jaein, meanwhile, literally fuming in anger. She was taking deep breaths to calm herself. “Ahh shiballll” she screamed under her breath.
Jimin, on the other hand, had both hands over his face.
“I’m cooked,” he mumbled under his breath. He peeked at Taehyung, who looked like he might explode at any moment, then glanced at Jaein sitting two rows ahead, calm on the outside, but clearly unsettled.
Jimin sighed dramatically.
“Well, Jimin… time to prepare for war” he whispered to himself, slumping in his seat.
