Chapter 75
With Tae
He dragged himself into the mansion; it was 8 PM. The first thing he did was to go and freshen up. After that, he called Jin, but Jin didn’t pick up.
“Why isn’t he picking up the call?” he mumbled, slipping the phone back into his pocket.
He made his way to Jungkook’s room to check on him. Slowly, he opened the door and softly turned on the light. That’s when he saw the heartwarming scene.
Jungkook was asleep in Jin’s embrace. Jin held him protectively, the two of them sleeping peacefully.
A small, unknown smile crept onto Taehyung’s face at the sight. He pulled out his phone and took a photo of the moment to keep it forever. He was about to leave when something made him stop.
His eyes widened in alarm. There were cuts on Jungkook’s face and lips.
Worry instantly replaced the smile. He stepped closer to get a better look. The cuts weren’t deep, but they looked fresh, like recent wounds.
Just then, Jin stirred at the sound. His eyes fluttered open, still heavy with sleep, and found Taehyung standing there, concern etched into every inch of his expression.
“Hyung… what happened to him?” Taehyung whispered, voice thick with worry.
“Shhh,” Jin hushed him softly.
Taehyung nodded and fell silent immediately.
Jin turned his attention to Jungkook, gently pressing the back of his hand against his forehead to check for a fever. He sighed in relief when he felt none.
Then, with practiced care, Jin lifted Jungkook’s hand and adjusted his position to help him sleep more comfortably. Jungkook whimpered slightly at the loss of warmth, but Jin was quick to soothe him, gently patting his chest and stroking his hair.
Jungkook relaxed again, slowly drifting back into a deeper sleep, his small fist curling like a child’s.
Jin pulled the duvet over him, tucking him in with care. His hand lingered on Jungkook’s head, softly brushing his hair.
Then he stood up and reached for Taehyung’s hand, silently pulling him out of the room. Once outside, he quietly shut the door behind them and turned off the light.
“Hyungie, what happened to him? What are those cuts?” Taehyung asked worriedly.
“Ah, don’t worry, Tae,” Jin replied softly. “Actually… his principal called me.” He took a deep breath and began explaining everything that had happened.
“Then he started getting a headache. I think… I think he’s starting to remember things. He asked me… if he used to call me ‘Jinnie hyung’… and you as ‘Tae Tae.’”
Tears welled up in Taehyung’s eyes at Jin’s words. “Is he really getting the memories? But… But it may affect his health right?” Jin nodded and said “don’t worry, tae. He will be fine” tae nodded and stayed silent.
“You should’ve killed those bastards,” Taehyung growled suddenly, his voice filled with anger. “How dare they say those harsh things to him?”
“Did he cry?” he asked after a moment of silence.
Jin shook his head. “No. He said he was fine… and I didn’t push him any further.”
Taehyung nodded, lips pressed into a tight line. What Jin didn’t tell him was how Jungkook had called him “hyung.” Jin had decided to wait, to let Taehyung hear it from Jungkook himself when the time came.
Trying to lighten the mood, Jin asked, “How was your day? You look a little tired, hmm?”
Taehyung let out a sigh. “Ah, just some project stuff,” he replied casually.
“You’re not overworking, are you?” Jin asked, brushing Taehyung’s hair gently.
Taehyung looked at him and shook his head quickly. “No, never.”
Jin chuckled at his response, patting his shoulder with warmth.
Time Skip
Tae and Jin were in the living room. Jin had already cooked dinner. They were watching TV, laughing and chatting together, they saw Jungkook coming downstairs.
“Hey, Kookie,” Tae smiled at him.
Jungkook quietly walked over and sat beside him. He still looked sleepy.
“Slept well?” Tae asked, gently caressing Jungkook’s hair.
Jungkook nodded. “Do you still have a headache, Kook?” Jin asked.
Jungkook shook his head, indicating no. Jin and Tae both let out a breath of relief.
“Come on, let’s go eat,” Jin said with a smile.
They both nodded and moved to the dining hall, sitting down to eat together.
Once they were done eating, Tae looked at Jungkook seriously.
“Jungkook-ah, if anyone messes with you, call me immediately. Or call hyung. We’ll make sure no one ever dares to hurt you again, hmm?” Tae said like a protective brother.
Jungkook nodded.
“And don’t take their words to heart, okay? They… they were just talking nonsense. There’s nothing wrong with you. Absolutely nothing,” Tae continued, his voice soft but firm. “We’ll always be here for you. Always. So promise me you won’t let their words get to you again, hmm?”
He held out his pinky finger.
Jungkook smiled a little and nodded. He could see how much Tae cared for him too. Jin, on the other hand, was silently admiring his brother’s protectiveness.
Jungkook intertwined his pinky finger with Tae’s and softly said, “Thanks, Taehyungie hyung.”
As soon as Jungkook finished his sentence,. “No need to thank—” he stopped abruptly, eyes widening as the words just got registered.
He stared at Jungkook, shocked. “What… what did you say? Did… did you just call me hyung?” Tae asked, trying to hold back the rush of emotions.
Jungkook gave a small nod with a soft smile.
And in the very next moment, Tae pulled him into a tight hug, holding him like he never wanted to let go. He didn’t say anything at first, he just hugged Jungkook, heart full, eyes brimming with tears.
After a while, he whispered, voice trembling, “Thank you so much for calling me hyung, Kook… I missed that. I really, really missed it.”
Jungkook was surprised by the intense reaction, but he let himself be hugged. Meanwhile, Jin stood nearby, smiling warmly at the sight of the his younger brothers.
Tae eventually broke the hug, cupping Jungkook’s face gently in his hands. “Hyungie loves you so much, bub. I’ll never let anything happen to you. You have me and Jin hyung, always. Just be yourself, be comfy with us, okay?”
Jungkook nodded, eyes slightly glistening. Jin watched his younger brothers, his heart full as he saw Jungkook smile again, a real, soft smile.
In that moment, he silently wished that everything would go smoothly from now on! no more pain, no more regrets, no more fear, no more secrets.
But little did he know, the storm he feared most… was already coming closer.
The very things he wished would never happen were coming.
And they would break him, more than he ever imagined.
Will he be able to survive the deadly storm that awaits?
On one random Saturday evening…
The weather was calm. The road echoed with the screeching sound of two bikes, Eunwoo and Jungkook were racing down the empty street. Neither of them spoke. No jokes. No arguments. Just racing in silence.
It had been a month since Hyunwoo and Kim left. Since then, Jungkook had taken to sneaking out of the mansion at night, losing sleep. Eunwoo would usually join him. Though they worked together, they rarely spoke, unless it was about work. And if they did talk, it usually ended in arguments, harsh words from each other carelessly, only to be regretted later. But they never showed that regret outwardly.
Meanwhile, Jin and Tae were the happiest. Jungkook had started to get comfortable around them. They heard him calling them “hyung” every day. They saw his smiles, his soft laughter, even his playful whining. To them, it felt like everything was finally falling into place.
Haein, on the other hand, was trying her best not to let anything slip in front of Jin. The more time she spent with him, the more she realized what a good person he was. She couldn’t quite explain it, but she felt like he was someone who could truly understand others. Deeply. Quietly. Fully.
But behind the doors, things weren’t so smooth.
Kim would call Jungkook now and then, never just to check in, but to throw orders at him, then hurt him with harsh words.. Those words stuck with Jungkook late into the night, looping in his head when he should’ve been resting.
To tell the truth, Jungkook hadn’t been sleeping well at all. He worked through the nights on the assignments Kim gave him, and then, in the morning, he studied. On average, he barely got four hours of sleep a day.
Jin and Tae noticed. They saw the dark circles forming under his eyes. Of course they cared, how could they not?
But every time they asked, Jungkook dodged their concern. “I’m getting enough sleep, don’t worry,” he’d say with a tired smile.
Jin, especially, had begun to grow confused. He started noticing the changes in Jungkook’s behavior. Every time Jungkook received a call, he would quietly excuse himself, shutting the door behind him before answering. And every morning, without fail, he wore the same gloomy expression until he saw them, and quickly plastered on a fake smile. “I’m fine,” he’d always say.
Yes, Jungkook called them “hyung.” Yes, he had gotten more comfortable.
But not fully.
He still only answered when they started a conversation. He laughed with them, but only a little. There was still a distance, still walls that hadn’t been fully broken down.
And worst of all, Jungkook had stopped taking his medicine regularly again.
He only took it when someone reminded him.
“Let me go and take some pics of their warehouse,” Eunwoo said coldly.
Jungkook just gave him a small nod while working on his laptop. He had noticed how gloomy Eunwoo was today. At school, he was completely silent. Something was definitely off. But Jungkook didn’t ask anything.
He was too tired.
Yesterday, he went for on a mission alone, choosing not to call Eunwoo, thinking his friend deserved some rest. But as usual, he didn’t care enough about himself to stop.
“Yah, there are some guards outside the warehouse. Better be careful, and use the underground entrance. I hacked it already,” Jungkook said through the earpiece.
He heard only a hum from the other side. “Is there any entrance inside? Or anything? Any guards?” Jungkook asked.
“No, there isn’t. It’s empty. I think they cleared this place,” Eunwoo replied.
Jungkook hummed. “Okay, come out.”
“I’ll go to the main room. Hack it,” Eunwoo said. Jungkook just hummed in response. “It’s hacked. There are five guards outside.”
Again, just a hum from Eunwoo. Meanwhile, Eunwoo was walking toward the entrance. He froze when he saw a man heading in his direction.
“Shit,” he cursed under his breath, hiding behind the wall.
He adjusted his cap and mask, picked up a box, and walked out, pretending to be one of their workers. He moved past the guards smoothly, they didn’t even notice him.
Eunwoo made his way to the main entrance. He typed in the password Jungkook had hackedm, then opened the door and quickly closed it behind him.
His eyes widened in shock at what he saw. He was in Manic’s base btw.
He turned to the wall, covered entirely in photos of Jungkook.
“Eunwoo, what’s going on?” Jungkook asked through the earpiece.
But there was no response.
Meanwhile, Eunwoo walked closer. His eyes widened as he took in the sight, it was Jungkook’s photos, all over the wall. Pictures of Jungkook in his school uniform, photos of him outside, walking, shopping… It was clear, they were chasing him, watching his every move.
He gasped when he saw even more familiar faces. There were photos of Haein, Jin, Yoongi, Hobi, Namjoon, Taehyung, and Jimin too.
They were spying on all of them.
Eunwoo’s eyes darted around the room until they landed on a stack of documents on a nearby table. He stepped closer and picked one up. The title read: “Unknown Mysteries: JJK and VINTO.”
He gulped, unease spreading through his chest. He opened the file. His breath hitched.
There were photos, blurred faces, but unmistakably them. Jungkook and him. Then he flipped the page, only to freeze at the sight of Suho’s picture. The note beside it read, “No information about Suho.”
Eunwoo clenched his fists, barely keeping his emotions in check. He swallowed hard and flipped to the next page. A tear rolled silently down his cheek seeing how much they have chase for Jungkook.
He closed the file with trembling hands, then turned toward the computer. Without hesitation, he hacked into it. Within seconds, he had everything, he copied the entire data onto his pendrive.
Once done, he shut the system down, erasing any trace of his presence.
And just like that, he left.
The same way he had entered. Without a sound.
He returned to the place where Jungkook was waiting. As soon as he arrived, Jungkook snapped.
“Can’t you even respond, huh?” he shouted, clearly shaken. He had been trying to reach Eunwoo for a while and got no response.
Eunwoo let out a sigh. “Wae? You thought I was dead, huh?” he said sarcastically while tossing his bag over his shoulder.
Jungkook gritted his teeth in anger but didn’t say more.
“Let’s go,” Eunwoo muttered.
Jungkook exhaled heavily and began packing up his things. They both moved quickly and silently, careful not to draw attention.
As they made their way out, they spotted guards nearby.
Jungkook gestured something with his hand, an unspoken plan.
Eunwoo nodded and, without hesitation, pulled out his gun and fired a single shot into the air.
Bang!
The sound echoed loudly. The guards immediately sprang into action, running toward the source of the gunfire.
But by the time they reached the spot, they found nothing.
No sign of who had been there.
“There they are!” a guard shouted as he spotted Eunwoo and Jungkook nearing the exit.
The guards immediately ran after them, but Jungkook and Eunwoo were fast enough to reach their bikes. Eunwoo gestured something silently to Jungkook, who nodded in response and quickly put on his helmet, speeding the bike.
Without wasting a second, they both sped off down the empty road, followed closely by their rivals.
Eunwoo swiftly pulled out his gun and aimed. With a sharp shot, he hit the tire of the rival car, sending it swerving.
Meanwhile, Jungkook pulled out a fog spreader, activating it and throwing it behind them. Thick fog erupted, blinding the view and throwing the chasing guards into chaos.
They used the moment to disappear. Soon enough, they reached a deserted area and stopped. The road was quiet. No one was around.
Eunwoo pulled out the pendrive and handed it to Jungkook. They both removed their caps and masks, their faces drenched in sweat and tension.
Jungkook took the pendrive and asked, “Any other files?”
Eunwoo hesitated for a moment, his expression tightening. “They’re spying on you,” he said, “and your brothers… also on my noona.”
Jungkook’s eyes widened slightly at that. But he gave a firm nod, lips pressed together.
Before either of them could say anything more, the sharp crack of bullets echoed in the air.
They gasped and turned, rivals were still coming, bullets and engines roaring.
“Shit,” they both muttered in unison, scrambling to put their masks back on.
They jumped onto their bikes again. Jungkook started the engine with a roar, Eunwoo close behind. They took off at high speed.
The streets ahead were no longer empty, cars and bikes filled the road.
But they didn’t slow down. They spef through traffic like professionals, dodging obstacles at full speed. Cars honked, people yelled, curses filled the air.
But none of it mattered. They had to escape.
They saw the rivals beginning to shoot again as they reached a stretch of road where no people were around.
Jungkook glanced at his side mirror and spotted the car tailing them.
Without hesitation, he pulled out his gun, aimed while still riding, and took a clean shot. The bullet hit its mark right into the enemy car’s tire.
Eunwoo threw another fog grenade behind them, filling the area with thick smoke.
But then…. Bang!
A bullet struck the ground dangerously close to Jungkook’s bike. The shock and sudden skid caused him to lose control.
“Jungkook!” Eunwoo yelled, panic flashing in his eyes as he saw his partner go down.
Jungkook hit the road, rolling a few times before coming to a hard stop. He let out a sharp whimper of pain, his palms scraped, heart pounding.
But he didn’t stay down. There was no time.
Jungkook stood up, quickly grabbed his fallen bike, and climbed back on. Without checking for injuries, he started the engine with trained precision and sped off again.
His chest burned. But he didn’t stop.
Jungkook took his gun once more and began firing at the rival cars’ tires while dodging the incoming bullets.
Eunwoo followed his lead, both of them shooting back in synchronized skill.
Soon, after a few more sharp turns and chaos behind them, they managed to escape from the enemies.
They finally pulled into a quiet, empty brdge. The area was silent, it was now crashing them down hard.
Jungkook came to a stop, pulled off his helmet, and let out a shaky, painful breath.
Eunwoo parked behind him and immediately rushed over, worry all over his face. He noticed the blood on Jungkook’s palm, and the way Jungkook clutched his chest while breathing heavily.
“Shit…” Eunwoo whispered, eyes darting over him. There didn’t seem to be any major injuries, but Jungkook looked drained.
Without a word, Eunwoo reached into his bag, pulled out a bottle of water, and handed it over.
Jungkook didn’t say anything.
He just took the bottle and drank silently, his breath still unsteady.
“You fine?” Eunwoo finally asked, ego forgotten, his tone quiet, almost soft.
Jungkook let out a sigh, his voice hoarse. “Why do you care?”
That sentence landed heavy. Eunwoo clenched his jaw. His brows furrowed, frustration boiling over.
“Why? do you think I wouldn’t ask?” he snapped. “I have feelings too. I have a fucking heart unlike others!”
Jungkook scoffed bitterly, turning his head away.
“Yeah? Well I guess I don’t have a fucking heart, right? I don’t care about anyone. So what? Got a problem with that?” he shot back coldly, voice sharp despite the exhaustion.
The air between them crackled with tension, pain, misunderstanding, and something neither of them could admit yet.
Eunwoo just stared at him and said coldly, “What a heartless monster. There’s no point in talking to you anyway,” gritting his teeth in frustration.
Jungkook scoffed. “Yeah, yeah. Then just get lost.”
He turned to leave, but stopped when Eunwoo’s quiet, hurt voice cut through the air. “You forgot about today… didn’t you?”
Jungkook paused, confused. His expression hardened. “What day?” he asked coldly, clearly annoyed. But as he looked at Eunwoo, who now had tears streaming down his face, something in him shifted.
The look on Eunwoo’s face wasn’t one of anger anymore. It was pain. Real pain.
A tear slipped from Eunwoo’s eye. His voice cracked with hurt “I thought you still had a piece of heart… some memory left. But it seems like you don’t have anything anymore.”
“What the fuck are you saying, huh?” Jungkook snapped, his frustration growing, but deep inside, something tugged at his chest.
Eunwoo paused. His voice, was low. Broken. “Today is the 17th… Eomma’s death anniversary.”
The moment those words left Eunwoo’s lips, Jungkook’s face dropped. His annoyance melted into shock, then guilt.
His heart sank.
Eunwoo’s eyes narrowed, filled with betrayal and sorrow. “I’ll never forgive you, Jungkook. You betrayed us. You left us behind and never looked back. And now… you can’t even remember her death anniversary?”
His voice rose with raw pain “Don’t you feel even a little shame, Jungkook? All you do is think about yourself isn’t it? following your father’s orders like a puppet. You forgot the woman who gave you everything.”
Eunwoo’s voice trembled, thick with emotion. “I really hate this version of you. I hate you to the core.”
And with that, he stormed off, leaving Jungkook frozen in place, standing there alone under the wide, empty sky.
Jungkook didn’t move. His mind had gone completely blank. He wasn’t in the present anymore. His thoughts were far, far away.
“…Eomma,” he whispered under his breath. “How… how could I forget this day?” His voice broke into a whisper laced with guilt and disbelief.
The silence around him grew louder.
He began to walk, aimlessly, down the empty road, his steps heavy and hollow. His face was clouded with regret, his chest burning with sorrow.
He looked utterly lost. Like a boy who forgot the most important part of his heart.
Meanwhile, with Jin.
He was in the meeting room, attending a briefing. Yoongi and Haein were there too, instructing their workers. Jin glanced at his phone when he saw an unknown number calling. Confused, he got up, excused himself politely, and walked to a corner of the room to take the call.
“Nae… yeoboseyo?” Jin answered.
“Ohhh, Seokjin-ah. Glad to hear your voice again,” said a familiar voice, it was the maniac.
Jin immediately gritted his teeth “What do you want, huh?” he asked, clearly frustrated and on edge.
“Ani… I just called to remind you… about your brother’s safety,” the maniac replied with a laugh.
Jin’s eyes widened in alarm. “What the fuck do you want, huh?” he growled, his voice rising enough to make the others in the room glance his way.
Yoongi, sensing something serious, gestured to the workers to step out of the room.
The maniac laughed again. “I’m just enjoying how much you care about your brother. He’s walking alone on the street… no guards, no protection. Should I ask my men to kill him right away?”
The next moment, Jin lost it. “If you dare, if you lay a finger on him, you’re gone. Don’t you dare touch him!” Jin roared in panic.
“Fine, fine…” the maniac said mockingly. “You have 20 minutes to protect your brother.”
And with that, he ended the call.
“YAHHHHHH!” Jin shouted at the now-ended call, his voice cracking with frustration as he clutched his head, heart pounding.
Yoongi rushed to him. “Hyung, what happened?” he asked, worry thick in his voice.
“J… Jungkook. He’s alone. They’re going after him…” Jin said breathlessly, panic overtaking him.
Both Haein and Yoongi gasped in shock. “We have only 20 minutes,” Jin added, his voice trembling.
Just then, a message notification popped up. Jin opened it and gasped it was photos of Jungkook walking alone.
“He’s alone,” Jin whispered, guilt and fear building up inside him.
“I’m hacking into their network. Don’t worry, we’ll track him,” Haein said, switching her laptop to the hacking interface immediately.
Jin began dialing Jungkook’s number again and again, desperation in every click. But Jungkook wasn’t picking up.
“Please… please, Jungkook. Just pick up the call,” Jin begged, his voice cracking as panic took over.
Meanwhile, Yoongi quickly sent messages to Hoseok and Namjoon, alerting them, and began instructing their men to start searching immediately.
Jin, still breathless, called Taehyung. “Nae, hyung?” came Tae’s casual voice. “Tae, where are you?” Jin asked urgently.
“In the library, hyung. Why? Is everything okay?” Taehyung replied, sensing something was wrong.
Jin didn’t answer his question directly. “Is Jimin with you?” he asked instead. “Nae… he is, but wha–” Tae was cut off as Jin spoke over him.
“Just stay there. I’ll call you again. Don’t go anywhere, okay?” Jin ordered, his tone sharp.
“Hyung, what—–” Tae began, but Jin hung up before he could finish.
“His last location was on Haedong Street,” Haein said.
Jin’s eyes widened in shock. “Why would he go there?” he mumbled, heart racing, and then he stormed out of the room.
Yoongi and Haein quickly followed him in their own car. Soon enough, Hoseok, Namjoon, and the others joined the search as well. They all began combing through Haedong Street, desperately looking for any sign of Jungkook.
Jin and Haein stopped their car at the last known location. They both stepped out, tension thick in the air.
Jin called Jungkook again, this time, he heard the phone ringing somewhere nearby.
His eyes darted around until he spotted it, Jungkook’s phone lying on the side of the road.
He gasped. “Jungkook’s phone…” he whispered, then looked around frantically. “H-Haeinah… he isn’t here either… where did he go?” Jin asked her, his voice trembling with fear for his younger brother’s safety.
Haein checked the time, they had less than 10 minutes left. Suddenly, something clicked in her mind. She quickly pulled out her phone and called Eunwoo.
He picked up almost instantly. “Nae, noona?” His voice was calm.
“Eunwoo, where are you right now?” she asked urgently.
“Me? Heading home. Wae?” he replied, a bit confused.
“Where’s Jungkook? Is he with you?” she asked, panic evident in her tone.
“He… I don’t know. I left early… We were lastly at Hansan Bridge. Wae? What happened?” Eunwoo asked, concerned.
“Rivals are after him, and he’s all alone. Please, check the area around there. Be careful,” Haein said quickly and ended the call.
“Let’s go to Hansan Bridge! He must be around there,” Haein told Jin.
Jin wanted to ask so many questions…. but now wasn’t the time. The only thing that mattered was finding Jungkook.
Haein sat on the passenger seat beside him, and Jin immediately sped off, his hands tight around the steering wheel. “Check the hansan street guys” jin said through he earpiece instructing everyone.
Meanwhile, with Jungkook.
He was still walking along the bridge, lost in a whirlwind of thoughts.
“You forgot her death anniversary.”
“Don’t you have any shame?”
“You’re a heartless monster.”
Every harsh words of Eunwoo’s echoed in his mind like knives cutting deeper with each repetition.
He gripped his chest tightly as a sharp pain stabbed through it. His breath hitched, and he gasped for air.
A sudden gunshot rang through the air. Jungkook flinched hard, heart pounding, breath caught in his throat.
