Chapter 76
Jungkook flinched hard at the sudden gunshot. His body jolted in panic. He looked around, panicked, but saw no one.
Another shot rang out.
He flinched again, even harder, his heart pounding in his chest. His breaths were sharp and heavy as his eyes darted in every direction. He reached for his phone, only to realize it wasn’t with him.
To make things worse, a sharp pain flared in his chest. It was bearable… but just barely. His breathing quickened.
Then, he saw two men approaching him, each holding metal rods.
Jungkook let out a shaky breath and quickly pulled out his gun, his hand trembling slightly, jaw clenched in pain.
Without hesitation, he aimed and fired, hitting both men in the legs. They collapsed with groans, dropping their weapons.
Still alert, Jungkook scanned the area. No one else was in sight.
He tucked his gun back into the waistband of his jeans and slowly walked toward the railing, using it for support. His hand clutched his chest tightly, his expression contorted in pain. He gritted his teeth, sweat sliding down his temples.
He stood there for a moment, trying to breathe through it.
Gradually, the pain eased. He exhaled in relief and let go of his chest.
But before he could take another breath, he was suddenly pulled back, just as a bullet struck the spot he had been standing seconds earlier.
He gasped and stumbled, shocked.
When he looked up, he saw the person who had pulled him, it was Eunwoo.
“YAH! Are you mad or what?!” Eunwoo shouted, furious and terrified. “Why the hell are you even here?!”
He dragged Jungkook to the side, hiding them both behind a nearby tree.
Jungkook jerked Eunwoo’s hand off and let out a shaky breath, his chest still burning. Before either could speak, more gunshots exploded in the distance.
“Ahhh, shibal,” Jungkook cursed under his breath and immediately took his gun out again.
“There are two men on the rooftop,” Jungkook gritted out, clutching his side again as another wave of pain shot through him.
Eunwoo nodded sharply and began firing toward the distant snipers.
Without wasting a second, Eunwoo connected a call to Haein.
“Noona! He’s here. The rivals are attacking, we need backup now!” Eunwoo’s voice cracked, a mix of desperation and panic bleeding through.
“Be careful. We’ll be there in a minute. Just hold on, both of you,” Haein responded from the other end, her voice tight with worry.
Jungkook kept shooting, his hands steady but his breaths ragged. His pain was evident, and Eunwoo could see it.
Eunwoo pulled Jungkook down gently, pressing him behind the thick tree bark to shield him better.
“Stay behind. Let me take care of this,” he said, taking position with his gun aimed forward.
A few minutes later, they heard the sound of a car speeding toward them.
A black car came to a sudden halt nearby, and then Jin and Haein jumped out.
Without a moment’s hesitation, both pulled out their guns and joined the fight, shooting at the rivals with precision.
Soon enough, more backup arrived. The rest of their team joined in, and the gunfight turned full-on.
Meanwhile, Eunwoo glanced over at Jungkook again, seeing him hunched over slightly, still clutching his side, barely keeping himself together.
Seeing everyone was now engaged in the fight, Eunwoo made a quick decision, he left the front line and turned his full attention to Jungkook.
He knew where he was needed most.
He saw Jungkook clutching his chest tightly, pain evident in every line of his face. He was sweating a lot, his teeth gritted as he tried to endure it. His breathing was labored, deep, uneven, desperate attempts to calm himself down.
Eunwoo rushed to his side and crouched down. “jungkook… try to take deep breaths. Come on, just breathe,” he said gently, voice laced with concern.
He reached forward, unbuttoning the top of Jungkook’s shirt to help him breathe easier.
But Jungkook jerked his hand away, his eyes sharp with a flicker of warning.
Eunwoo’s hands froze in midair. He bit down on his bottom lip, swallowing his emotions silently. He was hurt by jungkook’s actions.
But there was no time to dwell on it. More rivals were closing in.
Meanwhile, Jungkook forced himself to breathe deeper, one shaky inhale, then another. His jaw clenched, fingers tightening on the grip of his gun.
He composed himself, steadied his posture, and then charged back into the fight, dodging bullets, firing back with terrifying accuracy, each move swift and calculated. He moved like a ghost between the shadows.
Yoongi’s eyes widened in absolute shock. He’d just caught sight of Jungkook through the chaos, and the way he handled the gun… the way he moved…
He wasn’t just defending himself. He was fighting like a trained professional.
Yoongi’s eyes shifted to Eunwoo behind the tree, the suspicion rising in his chest, but there was no time to process it now.
Jin, meanwhile, was still at the front, fighting with rivals. He hadn’t seen Jungkook yet. Not even a glimpse.
Suddenly, Namjoon’s voice crackled through the earpiece.
“Hyung, find Jungkook. You and noona take him home, we’ll handle the rest and chase down the remaining enemies.”
“…Nae,” Jin replied, but his voice was shaking.
His heart pounded in his chest. Where is he? he thought. What if he’s hurt? What if something already happened?
Before his thoughts could spiral further, Yoongi’s calm voice came through the earpiece.
“Hyung… Jungkook is behind the bushes. He’s fighting. Take care of him.”
The moment Jin heard Yoongi, he didn’t wait another second.
He ran.
He ran through the field, past fallen bodies and lingering smoke, past the smell of gunpowder that clung heavy in the air, until he reached the place behind the bushes.
There were no more rivals in sight.
And there, Jungkook was standing, breathing heavily, sweat clinging to his pale skin,
The second Jungkook saw Jin, he
immediately shoved the gun back into the waistband of his pants. His hand trembled slightly as he did so, and his jaw was clenched tight as he fought to steady his breath.
“Jungkook,” Jin finally exhaled in relief.
He rushed forward and wrapped his arms tightly around him, pulling him into a hug. The weight in his chest eased just a little. His brother was safe. That’s all that mattered right now.
Jungkook stood frozen, startled by the sudden contact. He grit his teeth, trying to suppress the pain, pretending to be okay.
Jin pulled back just enough to look at him, both hands gripping his shoulders.
“Are you fine? Are you hurt anywhere, huh?” he asked frantically, his voice laced with panic.
Jungkook didn’t speak, he only gave a tiny nod.
But the next second, Jin yelled sharply. “Why the hell are you even here, huh?! Where are the guards? Why are you alone?! Why didn’t you inform me?!”
His voice was loud, angry, worried, confused, protective. A storm of emotions he could no longer control.
Jin didn’t even realize it, but it was the first time he’d ever raised his voice at Jungkook.
Jungkook flinched slightly, gulping. He didn’t know what to say.
Just then, Eunwoo came running toward them, panting. Behind him was Haein, dressed in a white, elegant formal gown, but her face showed nothing but pure panic and fear.
The moment Jungkook’s eyes met Haein’s, he let out a shaky breath. He looked away immediately.
“Kook…” Haein called softly, standing infront of him.
Jungkook didn’t answer. He tried to take a breath, just one deep breath, but he couldn’t. His chest felt like it was on fire. The pain was sharp, and suddenly everything felt too tight. Too heavy.
He couldn’t breathe.
His body trembled as he clutched his chest, then fell to his knees.
“Jungkook!” Jin shouted in panic, rushing to him.
Eunwoo’s eyes widened in alarm. Haein crouched quickly.
Jin knelt beside Jungkook and grabbed him, holding him gently. “Hey, hey! What’s happening, Kook?! Are you in pain? What’s going on?” he asked, his voice breaking.
Jungkook shook his head helplessly, still trying to breathe, but the air wouldn’t come. He was suffocating.
“Eunwoo! Bring water from the car, quickly!” Haein said urgently.
Eunwoo nodded and immediately ran to the vehicle. Haein knelt beside Jungkook, her hands trembling.
“Kookie… baby, look at me,” she whispered, trying to steady her voice. “Look at me, please.”
Jungkook didn’t respond. His breathing was shallow and rapid.
“Breathe… try to breathe, Kook. I’m here. I’m right here. You’ll be okay. Nothing will happen to you,” she said, tears streaming down her face now. “You’re scaring me, baby. Please… just breathe. Please look at me.”
Jin continued rubbing circles on Jungkook’s chest with one hand and cradled the back of his head with the other.
“Kook… breathe for me. Come on. In… out… just like that, baby. Just follow me, okay?” Jin whispered, trying to stay calm.
The boy they both loved so much, the one who always said he was fine… was now barely holding on, and they could see it.
“H…hurts…” Jungkook whispered, barely audible, his lips trembling.
“I’ll shoo the pain away, hmm? Just breathe for me… please,” Jin said softly, holding Jungkook’s trembling hand tighter, his own voice cracking.
Within seconds, Eunwoo returned, panting, the water bottle clenched tightly in his hand. Haein glt it gently.
“Kook, here… drink a little,” she said softly, holding the bottle to his lips.
Jungkook obeyed, sipping the water slowly, he choked, coughing harshly.
“Slow, slow… take it slow,” Jin said quickly, rubbing his back, worry etched all over his face.
Jungkook shook his head weakly, signaling he’d had enough. He was still breathing heavily, but at least he had calmed slightly. His eyes slowly lifted and found Haein.
“Noona… Eomma… I…” his voice was cravked and broken. Before he could say more, Haein pulled him into a tight, trembling hug.
“no, no, don’t cry. It’s okay, hmm? She’s always with you. Noona’s here with you, baby. You’re not alone,” she whispered, her voice breaking as her hand cradled the back of his head.
Jin stood frozen, his eyes wide in disbelief at the words they had just spoken.
“A.. ani… I killed her,” Jungkook cried, voice shaking as he gasped for breath. “She died… because of me. She… is dead… b-because of me…”
“No! Ani, ani! Kook, please calm down, please!” Haein teared ip, breaking the hug as tears rolled down her cheeks. “You’re scaring us, baby… please. Your noona is here, okay? And your Hyungie, he’s right here, look at him… look how scared he is. We are scared baby… Please, be okay…”
Jungkook clutched his chest again, the pain slicing through him like a knife.
“I-It… hurts…” he whispered faintly.
Jin quickly dropped to his knees beside him, taking his hand and rubbing it, his other hand still on his back.
“You’ll be fine, Kookie… Hyungie’s here. Nothing will happen to you. I got you. Just stay with me, okay?” Jin pleaded, his voice shaking, barely holding his tears back.
Eunwoo stood still, crying silently, completely broken. The sight of Jungkook like this shattered him.
Then, Jungkook’s lips began to turn slightly blue. His eyes fluttered. And suddenly… he collapsed.
“JUNGKOOK?! Jungkook! Hey, look at me, baby, please, no, no… please stay with me!” Jin screamed, catching him before he could hit the ground.
Haein and Eunwoo both gasped in horror.
Haein immediately placed her fingers on Jungkook’s neck, checking his pulse.
“His pulse is weak, we need to take him to the hospital, right now!” she said urgently, her voice tight with panic.
Jin didn’t hesitate.
Without a second thought, he lifted Jungkook into his arms and ran toward the car like his life depended on it.
“Nothing will happen to you. Not today,” Jin whispered fiercely, voice choked with emotion.
Haein turned to Eunwoo, who was now trembling, crying like a child.
“Eunwoo… nothing will happen to him. Come on. Let’s go. Don’t cry, please,” she said, grabbing his hand and dragging him to the car.
When jin made Jungkook to sit on the passenger sit, something fell down, his eyes widened in shock. It was gun. He took it and kept it in his. Not having to time to think about that. Haein sat in the backseat, holding Jungkook in her lap.
Jin got in the driver’s seat and slammed the door, the engine roaring as he drove at full speed.
Eunwoo took his bike, following closely behind them. In the back, Haein never stopped trying to bring Jungkook back.
She was constantly rubbing his hands, trying to warm his cold skin.
“Jungkookie… baby, noona’s sorry… I’m here now… look at me, please… I’m so sorry,” she cried, gently patting his pale, unconscious face. “You’re scaring me… please, don’t leave me…”
Jin kept glancing at them through the rearview mirror. He was driving fast, too fast, but every second felt like an eternity. His vision was blurry with unshed tears.
He heard the raw pain in Haein’s voice. He heard the fear.
His heart shattered He knew there were things they hadn’t been told. He knew… Haein knew something.
His grip on the steering wheel tightened.
He saw Haein pull out her phone with shaking hands and quickly call someone. It was Dr. Hwang.
“Uncle…, j…jungkook fainted,” she cried. “He’s had a cardiac arrest and a severe panic attack. He’s unconscious, cold, not responding, please, we’re on the way to Bangtan Hospital. Arrange everything. Please!”
She hung up with trembling fingers, tears spilling freely down her face as she hugged Jungkook closer.
Jin pressed harder on the gas. He had to get his brother fine. Before it was too late.
Jin hit the brakes hard as he reached the hospital.
He came out of the car, not wasting even a second. His heart was racing faster than the vehicle had.
He flung open Jungkook’s door.
“Kookie… hold on, baby,” he whispered desperately, lifting his brother’s limp body into his arms.
People turned to stare the moment he rushed through the hospital entrance, some gasping, others recognizing the well-known CEO carrying someone pale and unconscious. But Jin didn’t care. None of it mattered.
All that mattered was Jungkook.
“Move! Clear the way!” he yelled as the hospital staff rushed toward him. A stretcher rolled forward.
Jin gently placed Jungkook down on it, his body still cold and unresponsive. Dr hwang was there already.
“His lips are blue. Pulse is low. Cardiac trauma,” Dr. Hwang assessed quickly, already lutting the oxygen mask.
“Keep the mask steady, one of you! Let’s move him, now!” he ordered to the nurses.
As the stretcher disappeared through the ER doors, Jin’s feet refused to move.
His eyes never left Jungkook’s face, not even as they wheeled him away. Not even as the doors slammed shut behind him.
“Jungkook-ah… stay with me, baby,” Jin whispered, voice cracking as the tears fell. “You’ll be fine… you must be fine… don’t scare me like this… please…”
The silence that followed was unbearable.
Jin stood still for a moment, until he slowly turned and walked back into the waiting area.
There, Haein sat at the edge of the desk, her head buried in her hands, sobbing uncontrollably.
“I’m sorry, Kook… please be okay…” she cried softly, barely breathing between sobs. “Please… I can’t see you in pain again and again…”
Her body shook as she cried, consumed by helplessness.
Jin’s eyes were hollow, but there was something else. Something darker.
He slipped his hand into his coat and pulled out Jungkook’s gun still heavy in his palm.
He stared at it silently. It felt wrong in his hand. Too wrong. It didn’t belong with Jungkook.
And yet… it had been there.
The weight of the possibility he didn’t want to accept sat in his mind. He didn’t want to believe it.
But what kind of life had Jungkook been living? What kind of pain had he been hiding from them? Why did his baby brother know how to use this… so well?
Jin clenched his jaw and looked up toward the ER door again.
Tears shimmered in his eyes, but something inside him began to harden. He didn’t want to jump to conclusions!.
But he knew..He knew there was more to this than they had been told. And he was going to find out.
No matter what it costs.
