They heard a soft cough from Jungkook. Jin immediately stood up and walked to him, while the others followed close behind. Worry laced all over their faces.

Jin and the others saw the distress on Jungkook’s face flushed cheeks, furrowed brows, and his face scrunched in discomfort. Sweat on his forehead. Jin gulped, seeing his little brother like this. He held Jungkook’s hand, watching his chest rise and fall rapidly with uneven breaths.

Everyone was worried. Hobi, tears already welling in his eyes, immediately stepped forward shifting from brother mode to doctor mode in an instant. Cuz right now jungkook needed him.

He saw Jungkook’s state properly, and it made his heart wrench. Hobi took a deep breath to calm himself.

“Someone call the doctor,” Hobi said, his voice urgent. Namjoon immediately ran out to get help.

Hobi carefully removed Jungkook’s oxygen mask, as he saw jungkook’s breaths came uneven. His eyes were shut, brows furrowed. Hoseok gently tapped Jungkook’s cheek.

“Hey, Kookie… open your eyes. I’m here, we’re all here. You’re not alone, baby. Look at me… you’re fine… wake up, Kook,” Hobi whispered, his voice cracking with every word.

He kept softly tapping Jungkook’s cheek and chest, trying to wake him. And it worked, slowly, Jungkook opened his tired, bloodshot eyes. The moment he did, he winced in pain as a sharp ache surged through him. He whimpered, clutching his head.

The doctor rushed in just then. “Everyone, stay back. Leave some space for him,” Dr. Hwang instructed, and they all quickly stepped aside but haein and jin stood there beside Jungkook.

The doctor moved toward Jungkook. “Hey, hey, Kook… it’s me. You’ll be fine. Try to take deep breaths, come on,” Dr. Hwang said gently.

Jungkook continued to breathe heavily. His consciousness flickered, eyes half-open, tears welling in the corners and spilling over. He wasn’t fully aware. Haein, who was standing beside Jin, gripped Jungkook’s hand tightly, trying to comfort him.

“K-Kook…” she whispered. Jungkook squeezed her hand back faintly.

Jin gently rubbed circles on his chest, voice low and soothing. Then they heard him, Jungkook’s broken, weak voice, trembling with pain and fear:

“E…eo…eomma…”

Everyone froze. Tears streamed down their faces. Tae sobbed quietly in Namjoon’s arms, unable to be strong any longer. Jimin clung to Yoongi, crying uncontrollably. It was unbearable, watching their youngest like this, shattered and lost.

Hobi checked Jungkook’s pulse. “He’s getting a panic attack… Get the calming sedative in the inhaling oxygen mask, sedative level 3, gentle,” Hobi instructed firmly, switching into his doctor mode. The other doctor quickly moved in, checking Jungkook’s vitals. “Rub his hands. Keep them warm,” the doctor said.

Jin immediately took Jungkook’s hand from Haein and started rubbing it, eyes widening at how cold it was. It shattered him inside. Hobi rubbed soothing circles into Jungkook’s temples.

“Jungkook, your eomma is with you always,” he whispered softly yet firmly, trying to reach the panicking boy. “She’s right beside you, baby. Don’t worry, she’s not leaving. She’s always with you. She’s not happy seeing you suffer like this… So better be happy, okay? Make her happy, baby. You can do it. You have us. Don’t be scared… don’t panic, we’re here, always.”

His words came like a warm blanket, wrapping around the fragile boy. And it worked.

Jungkook’s trembling and mumbling slowly began to ease. His breaths still came in gasps, but not as sharp now.

Soon, the nurse brought the oxygen mask with the sedative. Hobi took it carefully and knelt beside Jungkook, gently placing it near his face. “Come on, baby. Take a breath, you can do this,” he said, voice tender.

Jungkook inhaled, shallow at first, but he did. Hobi gently pulled the mask back for a second to let him take in normal air, then placed it again. Bit by bit, Jungkook breathed in the calming sedative. And within minutes, his body eased. His lashes fluttered.

His tired eyes met Jin’s eyes. Jungkook’s fingers tightened around Jin’s hand, voice barely audible, soft and broken. “D…don’t… go…”

Jin’s chest ached. He leaned in and caressed Jungkook’s damp hair. “I won’t… I won’t leave you, Kook. I’m here. Hyungie’s right here with you,” he whispered, his voice steady but his eyes betraying the pain inside.

Jungkook finally let his heavy eyes close. A final tear slid down his cheek as he drifted off into sleep.

Everyone in the room sighed in relief.

Jin gently kept stroking his hair, refusing to let go of his brother’s hand. And even in sleep, Jungkook’s grip stayed firm, like he knew if he let go, everything might fall apart again.

They heard the doctor say, “He will wake up anytime now… be with him. Don’t let him panic,” the doctor instructed gently.

Jin didn’t say anything, his eyes were fixed on his brother as he softly caressed Jungkook’s hair.

“Um… I’ll be leaving for Canada tomorrow, so I won’t be here for the next few months,” the doctor added. “I’ve already informed Mr. Kim. Another doctor will take over starting tomorrow. If Jungkook stabilizes by then, he can be discharged. But if his condition stays the same or worsens, he’ll need to remain here. Please don’t let him stress or panic. Make sure he eats, even if he throws tantrums. He might not have an appetite due to the fever, but he must eat.”

Everyone nodded silently. Jin still didn’t speak. He remained quietly seated beside Jungkook, gently brushing his hair. His calmness was deceiving, his eyes were void of expression, but his grip on Jungkook’s hand never loosened.

Hobi and Haein spoke with the doctor about Jungkook’s condition and the upcoming care routines. Yoongi and Namjoon stood close, keeping a silent watch over their youngest. Jimin and Taehyung tried to keep themselves clam and steady, but their tears betrayed them, trailing silently down their cheeks.

After giving the instructions, the doctor quietly left.

Haein sighed, a small breath of relief escaping her. She looked at Jin, still wordless, still unmoving, as if frozen in his pain and fear. The way he stayed by Jungkook’s side, refusing to let go of his hand, broke her heart.

She turned her eyes toward the others. Seeing them all cry for their maknae, her chest tightened with guilt.

How could she have thought they were like Mr. Kim?

She realized now how wrong she had been from the beginning.

She stood there, looking at Jungkook. After a few minutes the door opened again, it was Eunwoo now, peeking in a little. Everyone’s attention shifted to him. His eyes tired and face red.

Eunwoo’s eyes met everyone else’s briefly, but quickly landed on Jungkook. The moment he saw Jungkook lying there, weak and vulnerable, his eyes welled up with tears. He bit his lip, trying to hold himself together.

Haein noticed immediately and walked over to him. “You woke up? Wanna go home, Eun?” she asked gently, caressing eunwoo’s hair back.

Eunwoo looked at Jungkook, then at Haein, and asked in a soft, cracking voice, “I… is he fine?”

Haein swallowed hard and replied, “Yes… he just needs some rest. The doctor said if he doesn’t stress or overexert himself, he’ll be completely fine. Don’t worry.”

Eunwoo didn’t say anything. He just stared quietly at Jungkook’s face. Then he looked at Jin, and the others too. Feeling their eyes on him, he softly said to Haein his voice still hoarse, “Let’s go.”

Haein nodded. “I’ll be there in a minute. Wait outside, hmm?” she said gently. Eunwoo gave one last look at Jungkook before silently stepping out of the room.

Once he left, Haein walked over to Jungkook and gently caressed his hair. She turned to Jin and said, “I’ll leave now. I’ll come tomorrow. Take care.”

Jin didn’t respond with words, he just gave a faint nod, still focused on Jungkook.

Haein bid the others too. Her eyes lingered on Taehyung, who was still crying quietly in Namjoon’s embrace. She softly whispered, “Take care,” to Namjoon and yoongi, and then walked out of the room.

They sat there in silence. Yoongi couldn’t hold it anymore and walked out of the room to leave to the base. Hobi followed him. Namjoon stood there, looking worried and overwhelmed.

Jin remained still, eyes locked on Jungkook. He hadn’t spoken a word, hadn’t moved from his side. He just stayed.

After a while, Jin finally let go of Jungkook’s hand. He leaned in and placed a soft kiss on the boy’s forehead before standing up and walking toward the others.

He noticed Taehyung still crying, with Namjoon trying to comfort him, but Tae kept sobbing. Jin sighed softly and spoke, “Tae.”

Tae looked at him, his eyes filled with tears. Jin immediately took the younger into his embrace. “Shhh, don’t cry. You’re exhausting yourself. Don’t cry, bear,” Jin said gently.

“J-Jungkook… he was suffering… and we didn’t even know… Why? Why did he have to go through all this? He’s too fragile for these things…” Tae cried harder.

Jin didn’t say anything, just continued caressing his back. “I hate Appa,” Tae mumbled.

“First, he blamed you and killed imo (Youngmi suho’s mom)… then made your life hell… made Suho hyungie leave us… and now he made Kook’s life hell as well…” Tae sobbed, voice shaking.

Jin rubbed his back and spoke firmly, “Don’t cry. I’ll make sure he regrets everything he did. Stay calm… Kook has us now. We’re here for him. He won’t be alone anymore. We’re here to protect him and love him. He’s safe with us. He’s going to be fine. He’ll live his life now, not Kim’s controlled one. We’ll make sure he never suffers again.”

Tae continued to sob, then looked up at Jin with teary eyes. “P-Promise?” he asked weakly. Jin smiled gently, nodded, and replied, “Promise.”

He placed a gentle kiss on Tae’s head. Tae just sat there silently, eyes watching Jungkook. Then, Jin turned his gaze to Jimin, who was crying silently in the corner. He sighed and walked over, pulling the boy into his arms. Jimin immediately clutched Jin’s chest and cried softly.

“Chim, don’t cry, baby. He’s fine. He has us now, baby. Don’t worry, hmm? Come on, don’t cry. Be strong,” Jin said, wiping Jimin’s tears.

Jimin didn’t say anything for a while.  Then he spoke in a soft, cracked voice,
“He lost his eomma right in front of his eyes… It must have been scary and traumatic, right? Whenever he sleeps, I have itself seen him mumbling something and then waking with a gasp… He suffered a lot, didn’t he? It must’ve been so hard for him to handle the pain of losing his mom, right? H-He was just sixteen…”

Jin didn’t let him finish. He pulled Jimin into a tighter hug. “Shhh, don’t think about that now. He has us. We’ll protect him. We’ll help him come out of the trauma. He’s going to be okay. Don’t worry, Chim… Don’t overthink anything,” Jin said softly, yet firmly.

He knew how Jimin broke down whenever the topic of a mother came up, because Jimin lost his own mom when he was just five. Then his aunt, yoona who was like a mom for him, when he was twelve. And then Youngmi, too… In front hsi eyes… Every one of their deaths had been too painful for everyone, especially for the tae and jimin.

After seeing tae and jimin calmed, Jin finally stood, “where is Yoongi and hobi?” he asked.

Namjoon sighed and said, “He went out. Probably to the base. He said he’ll handle things there. Hobi went with him.” Jin nodded and said, “Take them home. Make sure they eat and get some sleep.”

Namjoon nodded and looked at Tae and Jimin, “Tae, Jimin, go home. You can come tomorrow.” They both shook their heads, refusing to leave. “Jungkook will be fine. You guys should go,” Jin insisted. But still, they refused.
After much convincing, they finally left with Namjoon.

Jin sat there beside Jungkook. It was past 10 at night. He went to the restroom inside the room and came out with a bowl and towel, the bowl filled with cold water.

He sat beside Jungkook, soaked the towel in the cold water, and gently placed it on Jungkook’s burning forehead. Jungkook whimpered in his sleep, but Jin was quick to hush him by caressing his hair and patting his chest.

He kept wiping Jungkook’s head and neck with the towel trying to shoo away the fevere, he can’t see his brother suffer. Hours passed, and Jin still hadn’t left Jungkook’s side. He just sat there, staring at him.

It was past midnight. Jin had dozed off slightly, his arms folded on the edge of Jungkook’s bed.

He stirred in his sleep when he heard soft whimpers. Sitting up straight, he immediately noticed the distress on Jungkook’s face, his brows furrowed, sweat across his flushed skin.

Jin gulped and reached out, caressing the boy’s hair, patting his chest gently. “E… eomma…” Jungkook mumbled. His voice was so low that Jin could barely understand.

He realized Jungkook was having a nightmare. His heart ached. Jin gently wiped the sweat from Jungkook’s face. His body was still too warm from the fever.

Though Jin couldn’t clearly make out what Jungkook was murmuring in his sleep, it broke him. He saw tears falling from Jungkook’s shut eyes.

Jin gulped, eyes glistening with tears, but he didn’t break down. Instead, he gently patted Jungkook’s chest, holding his hand. Jungkook clutched Jin’s hand tightly, like he was scared to let go.

Jin kept patting him softly, humming a quiet lullaby, just like he used to do when Jungkook was younger. He still remembered how, without someone cuddling or singing to him, Jungkook could never fall asleep. He always needed someone beside him, patting him gently, calming his heart.

Just like that, Jungkook slowly calmed.
His eyes fluttered open, not fully conscious, just enough to look around. Jin gently brushed his fingers through Jungkook’s hair and said softly, “I’m here, baby… Hyungie’s here. Just sleep, hmm?”

Jungkook’s tired eyes shut again as exhaustion overtook him. Jin kept patting and caressing his hair, sitting there in silence, lost deep in thought.

Next morning.

Jin was in the hospital room. It was past 10 a.m. Jin barely slept all night. He had already freshened up and changed into a casual outfit. Now, he sat quietly, flipping through Jungkook’s reports with tired eyes.

Jungkook was still sleeping. His fever hadn’t gone completely, but it was a little better than yesterday. Jin heard the door open. It was the nurse. She entered and bowed politely.

“I’ll change his IV drip, sir. Please make sure he eats,” she said. Jin nodded. “His fever isn’t reducing… When will it go down?” he asked with concern.

The nurse checked Jungkook and replied, “He must have gotten it from the chest pain and the panic attack. If he’s taken care properly, it will go down within a day. Don’t worry, sir, he’ll be fine.”

She changed the IV drip carefully and continued, “Once he wakes up, please call me or any of the nurse. The doctor will check on him.”

Jin nodded again as the nurse left the room. He sighed deeply and sat on the couch. The silence hung heavy, broken only by the soft sound of Jungkook’s breathing and the slow beep of the monitor.

After a while, he heard the door open again. It was Yoongi.

Jin looked up immediately. Yoongi’s eyes were red, tired and puffy. It was clear he hadn’t slept. Jin straightened and asked with concern, “Yoongiya… where were you? Why weren’t you picking up the call?”

Yoongi walked toward him silently and sat down beside Jin. “I’m asking somet—” Jin began, but stopped when Yoongi suddenly leaned into him and hugged him tightly.

“Hyung…” Yoongi’s voice cracked. Jin’s eyes widened in surprise, but his face softened instantly. He wrapped his arms around Yoongi and held him just as tight. The silent pain between them said everything.

“Wae? You’re worried for Kook? He will be fine, Yoongs… He has us. We’re going to protect him,” Jin said softly, yet firmly. “And I swear, I’ll make sure Kim regrets every single thing he has done. So don’t worry… Jungkook will be okay. We’re here for him. He’s not alone. I’ll make that fucking Kim regre—-“

Jin stopped when Yoongi interrupted, gently pulling back from the hug, his voice cracking.

“I know…” Yoongi said quietly, eyes glossy. “I know you’ll do everything for him. You always do. But… what about you, hyung? Are you okay? I’m worried for you.”

Jin blinked, caught off guard. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. Before either of them could speak again, they heard a soft, strained cough.

Both their eyes landed on Jungkook. Jin immediately rushed to Jungkook’s side, heart beating fast in his chest. Jungkook’s face was scrunched in pain, his brows furrowed, and his skin still looked warm and pale because of the fever.

Jin gently patted his chest, whispering soothingly. Yoongi stood beside him, watching anxiously, fists clenched in worry. The cough subsided, and slowly, Jungkook’s eyes fluttered open.

He squinted his eyes, wincing at the brightness of the room. His eyes were bloodshot and heavy with exhaustion. “Jungkook-ah!” Jin called, holding his cold hand tightly. “Kookie-ya… it’s me, hyungie. Can you hear me, baby? You’re okay… we’re here.”

Jungkook opened his mouth to respond, but only ended up coughing again, his chest heaving. Yoongi quickly grabbed the glass of water nearby. Jin gently supported Jungkook’s back, helping him sit up carefully. Jungkook whimpered from the sudden wave of pain in his head, he leaned against jin.

Jin rubbed soothing circles on his back and chest, murmuring, “It’s okay… easy, baby… just breathe…” Once the coughing subsided, Yoongi held the glass near Jungkook’s lips. “Here, Kook… drink a little. Just a sip.”

Jungkook drank slowly, the water calming his throat. His eyes remained drowsy and glossy, almost distant. After he calmed a bit, Jin asked again, voice soft but full of concern, “Are you okay now? Is anything hurting, baby? Your chest? Head? Tell me, hmm?”

But Jungkook just stared at him. He didn’t answer. His eyes, still wide and innocent which were filled with exhaustion, like he was somewhere far away in his mind.

“I’ll go get the doctor,” Yoongi said, his voice low as he quickly turned to leave the room. Jin stayed, sitting close, wrapping an arm gently around Jungkook’s back, supporting his fragile frame.

“Kook… is it hurting anywhere, baby?” he asked again, voice barely above a whisper. Jungkook slowly shook his head, no words, no sound, just that quiet, tiny gesture.

Jin sighed softly in relief, eyes glistening, brushing Jungkook’s damp hair back gently. He didn’t say anything after that. And neither did Jungkook.

He just leaned against Jin, small and quiet, like the world had worn him out completely.

Soon, a doctor entered the room with Yoongi. He was the doctor assigned by Dr. Hwang. The doctor bowed to Jin and walked over to Jungkook.

Jungkook looked at the doctor with wide, bambi eyes nervous upon seeing someone new.

“He’s here to check you, Kook,” Jin said gently, trying to ease the younger’s confusion. Jungkook didn’t say anything.

The doctor checked his vitals and temperature, then asked, “Are you feeling any discomfort or pain in your chest, Jungkook-ssi?”

Jungkook shook his head, indicating no. “What about your head? On a scale of 1 to 10, how much does it hurt?” the doctor asked while adjusting the IV.

“8,” Jungkook whispered hoarsely, his voice tired, weak from exhaustion.

Jin and Yoongi’s eyes widened with worry. “Make sure he eats and takes his medicine. He’ll be fine then, he shouldn’t exhaust himself. It’s dangerous. Keep him calm and let him rest for the day.” The doctor instructed.

With that, the doctor bowed again and left the room. “I’ll go and get the food,” Yoongi said, standing up and quietly leaving the brothers alone.

Jin sighed and gently helped Jungkook sit up properly. He softly brushed back Jungkook’s hair. “Why aren’t you speaking, baby?? Is your head hurting a lot, hmm? Do you want anything?” Jin asked, his voice full of worry.

But Jungkook didn’t reply, just shook his head again. Jin sighed, heart aching at the boy’s silence. Without hesitation, he pulled Jungkook into a warm embrace, wrapping his arms tightly around his little brother.

Jungkook was startled at first. Jin didn’t say anything, simply pouring his warmth into the hug. He kept gently patting Jungkook’s back, holding him close. Jungkook didn’t hug back, nor did he push away. He just sat there, silent.

He didn’t know what to say. His mind was still a mess. He could clearly remember being chased by the rivals… what happened yesterday… what day yesterday was… how Jin and Haein showed up and fought for him… It was all too much. He was overwhelmed, confused… and not fully aware of the right time yet.

Still, the silence and warmth Jin offered comforted him, at least a little. After a while, Jungkook slowly broke the hug and looked away.

Jin sighed and whispered, “I’m sorry, baby… Hyungie wasn’t there earlier.” Jin said, Jungkook just nodded thinking he was talking about yesterday…

Jin decided to speak further tomorrow and let Jungkook rest for today. He didn’t want the boy to cry again and exhaust himself, so he gave him time.

Soon, Yoongi returned with food. He handed it to Jin, who opened and arranged it. Yoongi then sat beside Jungkook.

“Are you feeling better, Kook?” Yoongi asked gently. Jungkook just nodded. Yoongi silently sat there, caressing Jungkook’s hair.

The door opened again, revealing Haein. Everyone’s attention turned to her. Jungkook looked at her, his eyes void of emotion.

“Why is she here?” he thought to himself, quickly looking away, not wanting to face her.

“Oh, noona, you came!” Yoongi said with a small smile.

Jin looked at her quietly. Haein nodded and walked toward them. She looked at Jungkook, her heart aching, but she felt a bit relieved to see him awake.

“K…Kook, are you feeling okay?” Haein asked hesitantly.

Jungkook didn’t answer. He just sat there, trying his best to keep his tears from falling. Jin noticed Jungkook’s silence, and Haein’s face, full of pain and hurt, though she tried to mask it with a smile.

“You fainted yesterday and scared the hell out of all of us… I’m just glad you’re awake,” she continued, her voice soft.
“Do you feel any uneasiness? Any pain in your chest? Your head must be hurting a lot… But don’t worry, it will go away soon. Just rest today, hmm? Do you still have a fever, baby?”  Haein reached her hand out to check Jungkook’s temperature, but he turned his head away

She kept talking, trying to connect, but Jungkook didn’t even look at her. Jin and Yoongi both felt bad seeing her being ignored.
.

She bit her lip in hurt. Instead of saying anything, she turned to Jin and asked, “Did he eat? I cooked some food and brought it. He doesn’t like hospital food…” She began unpacking her bag beside Jin. Jin sighed and replied softly,

“Don’t worry. He’s fine. Just a bit of fever. He’ll be okay… Don’t worry.” He held her hand gently. Haein gulped and nodded.

“I’ll feed him some food. He must be hungry,” she said quietly, her eyes glistening with the tears she was trying to hold back after being ignored by Jungkook.

Jin sighed and gave a nod. She took the food tray and sat beside Jungkook.

“Here, Kookie. I made your favorite soup… Eat some,” she said, holding a spoon near his mouth. But Jungkook turned his head away, gritting his teeth, refusing.

“L…leave,” Jungkook said slowly, his voice cold and harsh. Haein bit her lip, deeply hurt.

“Eat, then I’ll leave,” she replied, trying to remain steady, but her voice trembled.

“I said leave… I don’t want anyone… Just leave me alone. I don’t need you or anyone, just… leave,” Jungkook said again, his voice shaky but cold. Every word shattered Haein. She just sat there, nodding.

“Eat t-then I’ll leave,” she said again, struggling to stay composed. But then Jungkook suddenly yelled,  “JUST LEAVE!!!” Jungkook turned to jin and said, “hyung, ask her to leave, please! Just leave me alone! Why does no one understand this? Just leave… please… just leave me fucking alone!”

His voice trembled as tears finally spilled down his cheeks. The room froze in shock. “S…sorry,” Haein whispered, swallowing the lump in her throat.

She stood up, placed the bowl aside, and grabbed her bag.

“J-Jin, here… feed him. I… I’ll go. T..take care,” she said, then quickly walked out of the room, her face turning away as she tried to hide her breaking heart. Jin and Yoongi both watched her leave, eyes filled with concern.

Jin turned to Jungkook and gently said, “I’ll be back in a minute. Please eat, hmm?” He stood up and gave Yoongi a small gesture to stay with Jungkook before walking out.

He rushed down the hallway, eyes darting until he spotted Haein walking swiftly toward the corridor. “Haein-ah!” Jin called out loudly, running toward her. She didn’t respond, just kept walking.

Jin caught up and grabbed her hand, making her flinch and look at him. “W…wae?” she asked, her voice trembling, eyes glossy.

Jin didn’t say anything at first. Instead, he gently pulled her along, guiding her toward the small balcony at the end of the floor. Haein looked at him in confusion.

Once they reached the balcony, Jin gently let go of her hand. Haein looked at him, eyes filled with tears.

“Why did you bring me here?” she asked, her voice still trembling. “I… I’m sorry about Jungkook… I’ll talk to him, don’t worry,” Jin tried to assure her softly.

“A… ani… my Kook is just a little angry with me. H..He’s just angry… he’ll speak to me… s..someday,” Haein said, her voice cracking, eyes welling up.

Jin saw her pain, the pain etched on her face. Without hesitation, he pulled her into a gentle embrace, wrapping his arms around her small frame, one hand cradling the back of her head, the other rubbing soothing circles into her back. Haien couldn’t process what happened. She was really small infront of jin right now.

“Don’t hold it in. I know it’s hurting… He’s just angry, Haein. He’ll speak with you very soon, I promise. Don’t take his words to heart. I’m sorry… I’m sorry for him,” Jin whispered, caressing her hair gently.

That was it.

Haein broke down. The dam she had been holding back finally gave way. She melted into Jin’s chest, clinging to him tightly, crying silently,  but crying hard.

“H…he never stopped talking to me before… It’s going to be t-three years already… Its been almost three years since he spoke to me properly” she choked out, sniffling as the sobs wracked her body. “H-he’s suffering alone… He isn’t angry at me… He never could be… I know him. He’s just trying to distance himself… to protect us. That’s what hurts the most.”

Jin’s chest tightened as he held her closer.

“He didn’t say those words from his heart. He was forced to say them. That… that man, Kim, he made him like this! My Kook… he’s hurting himself just to keep us safe… I know it… I know he still blames himself…” she whispered, her voice raw with pain.

“He’ll talk to me someday… b-but when? When, Jin? Why can’t he understand that I… or Eunwoo… we’re not angry at him? Why the h-hell is he still listening to his appa? Why? Ahh… wae?” she whimpered, burying her face deeper into Jin’s chest.

Jin’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. He didn’t say a word, he just hugged her tighter, his hand stroking her hair softly.

Letting her cry on his shoulder. Letting her know she wasn’t alone. Letting her know that she had him, someone who saw her pain and would carry it with her.

And… Haein cried.

After a while of crying, Haein broke the hug, wiping her tears as if she had just come back to her senses. “S..sorry,” she whispered, looking down.

Jin shook his head, and spoke “Don’t apologize, Haeinah… You don’t have to,” he said softly. “You have me… Jungkook has me now. I’ll make sure he talks to you again. I’ll make sure he’s safe… from now on. I promise.” His voice trembled, eyes glistening.

“From now on, no more pain for him. I’ll do everything I can to protect him… and Eunwoo… and you too. You all have me. I won’t let that bastard touch any of you again. Never.” Jin’s voice trembled, lyk he was trying his best to not break out .

He continued “I’m really sorry, and more than anything, thankful. Thankful for everything you did, for taking care of Jungkook, for sacrificing so much for him. I don’t even know how to put it into words, but I mean it with everything in me.”

He paused, clenching his jaw. “Thinking about Jungkook without you at his youngest… It kills me. If he had been left alone with Kim all these years… He wouldn’t have survived. I know that now.”

Jin turned away slightly, voice breaking. “I regret it. I regret everything. I’m not angry at you, or at Samchoon, or anyone for hiding things from me. I’m angry at myself. Angry for being such a fool… for believing all of Kim’s lies. For trusting him. For thinking he actually loved Jungkook… that he protected him and cared for him. How could I be so blind?”

Tears finally streamed down Jin’s face. “Why the hell did I agree to leave my baby brother with him, when I knew what kind of monster Kim was? Why did I let him go? I ruined his life with my own hands… My little bun… My Jungkook… I left him with that bastard thinking he’d be safe… And now…” His voice trailed off as he choked on his own sob, hands trembling.

Haein stood there in silence, her own tears falling, heart aching for the broken man in front of her. She wanted to say something, anything, to ease the weight he was carrying. But in that moment, she just stood there, listening to Jin’s pain.

Letting him finally fall apart. Letting him release everything he had held. Because that, too, was healing.

Jin continued after taking a deep breath, “You don’t even know what he did to all of us… by dragging us into that damn hell.” Jin’s voice trembled with rage and guilt.

“He dragged me first when I was just 17… right after my mom’s death. That was the first time I saw my father’s real side. His cruel side.”

He clenched his fists, voice tightening. “And then… the others. He dragged them in after they turned 18. For ten fucking years we lived in that hellhole. I fought my way through every dark corner, every order, every nightmare… and finally…f..finally, I pulled my brothers out. I protected Tae, I protected Jimin. I did everything I could… To keep tae and jimin out of that hell. I did it all to keep them safe from that monster.”

His breath hitched as his voice cracked further. “But I didn’t know… I didn’t fucking know… that he had already taken my baby. My Jungkook. He dragged my little brother into that same hell when he was just eleven. ELEVEN!”

Jin’s voice broke into a scream, his chest heaving with emotion. “He didn’t even get to be a teenager properly. What the hell did Jungkook ever do to deserve that? Born with a weak heart, suffering from the moment he came into this world… and still…still he is suffering. But why?! Why did he have to live through this?!”

His eyes filled with tears, voice breaking with each word, and his knees began to weaken. “Was it his fault? Was it his fucking fault that I… his elder brother, the one who was supposed to love him, protect him, left him in that hell?!”

His voice lowered into something more broken, more devastated. “Or was it the fault of his father, the man who should’ve held him, protected him, loved him, but instead, turned his life into a nightmare?” The tears finally fell uncontrollably, his breathing uneven.

“What did he do to deserve this…?” Jin whispered. “Every pain he’s gone through… is because of me. Because I wasn’t there. Because I believed in a man who never deserved that trust.”

He shook his head, his entire body trembling. “I hate myself. I hate myself for leaving my baby… with that monster.”

His voice cracked completely. “It’s my fucking… f-fault… t-that I… I left him alone… with my dad, i tr—“

Jin couldn’t finish the sentence. His knees buckled beneath him, and he collapsed to the cold hospital floor, hands covering his face as he broke down completely crying, shaking, letting out the buried guilt and pain.

And for once… He let himself fall apart that he had been holding it all in since yesterday, every word he heard, every truth that surfaced, every pain that resurfaced. Everything that happened was too much for him to bear. The weight of it all crushed him, and he could no longer hold back.

He blamed himself for everything.

Haein, with tears brimming in her eyes, crouched down beside him. Without a word, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pulling him close. Jin cried harder, his sobs muffled against her as he snuggled into her embrace like a broken child. And Haein, silently holding him, let him lean on her, just like he did.

She didn’t speak. She just held him. Because sometimes… words weren’t needed. Only warmth.
