The Next Morning

It was the weekend. Tae was in the living room, scrolling through his mobile. Jin had just come out, wearing a black shirt with pants, a simple yet formal outfit.

“Woah, hyung, are you going for work today as well?” Tae asked.

“Yep. Got so much work in the office. I’ll finish it quickly and come back, alright?” Jin said, ruffling his hair as he walked to the dining room.

“Where is Kook?” Jin asked.

“He’s in his room. He looks kinda dull today,” Tae said.

“Huh? Did you call him for breakfast?” Jin asked.

“Hmm, I did. He said he didn’t have an appetite. I asked him to come down, but he’s still not here,” Tae replied.

“Hmm, I’ll go and get him then,” Jin said, walking toward the stairs. He stopped when he saw Kim coming down, with Jungkook behind him.

It was true, Jungkook looked dull. His eyes were numb, holding no emotion. Jin couldn’t help but feel angry when he saw Kim.

I will find my hyung, Kim. I really will, Jin thought. He felt a strong persistence to find his hyung.

Kim went straight to the dining table. “Come for breakfast, sons,” he said, his voice normal.

Jungkook noticed his hyungs’ eyes on him. He was scared, scared that they might find out about his scars, about his pathetic condition. He clenched his fists in anger that he was scared and felt pathetic.

“Hey, Kook!” Jin smiled at him.

Jungkook didn’t respond. He just nodded and walked out. Jin looked at him, confused. “Jungkook,” Kim called.

Jungkook froze. His hands trembled. “Where are you going?” Kim asked.

“Just going out,” Jungkook said, his voice cold despite the sadness.

“Eat and go,” Kim said.

“I don’t have an appetite,” Jungkook replied, looking at Kim.

Kim gritted his teeth. “I said come and eat,” he said, his voice cold.

Jungkook sighed, feeling overwhelmed by the pressure. He then walked to the dining table and sat on the chair.

Jin and Tae watched the father-and-son duo, confused. Jin sighed and sat beside Jungkook.

“You okay?” Jin asked. He knew something was wrong for sure. Something was off.

“I am good,” Jungkook said coldly. He took the spoon and started eating. Tae also sat beside him.

“Today we are going for an event, Kook, so come home before five, alright?” Kim said, drinking his wine.

Jungkook paused. He felt tired of this shit. Hearing this, Jin became frustrated with his dad. “I already said he will not be coming!” Jin said, his voice cold.

“Jin, I don’t know why you are so worried. See, it’s nothing. He will be coming with us after all. I’ll be there, you’ll be there, others will also be there. And there isn’t going to be any media, no cameras, nothing. Just some businessmen and partners. And Seonah really missed him all these years, so I think you will understand it. Nothing will happen to him. After all, I’ll be with him,” Kim said.

Jin sighed in disbelief. “I don’t trust you, and I can’t,” Jin said low enough for Kim to hear.

“Jungkook you will come right?” Kim asked. Eyes Fixated at him, “I’ll come,” Jungkook said quietly with no choice..

Kim smirked in victory.

Jin sighed in disbelief. “Kook, it’s better for you to not come there,” Jin tried to say, but he was cut off by Jungkook.

“It’s just a personal meeting after all. Nothing will happen, though. As he said, you all will be there, right?” Jungkook said, even though he didn’t want to go. He didn’t want to make Kim angry again. Not again.

Jin couldn’t say anything anymore. He just nodded and stayed silent, glaring at his smirking father.

Jungkook continued eating silently. Tae just observed the surroundings quietly.

The tension between Jin and Kim was so obvious. Once Jungkook felt full, he stood up and turned to leave.

“Jungkook, finish the food and go,” Jin said, his voice calm as usual.

“I’m full. I’ll grab a shake later. I’ll be home before five,” Jungkook said, already walking away.

“Did you do something to him?” Jin asked suddenly, which made Kim pause for a moment. The tone Jin used made him gulp.

“No. Why?” Kim asked.

“Since you came, I haven’t seen a single smile on my brother’s face. The moment you came, his smile vanished,” Jin said bitterly.

Kim clicked his tongue in frustration. “I don’t know! All I know is that he is always silent. Maybe you mistook his silence for something wrong,” Kim said.

Jin stared at his father. Their eyes met. The tension between them was intense.

“Lying with a straight face, woah,” Jin snapped, scoffing. He turned away and started to eat.

Kim was confused. He didn’t ask anything and just continued eating.

“Eat the peas, Tae,” Jin said, his voice soft.

Tae nodded, not arguing. Jin sensed the silence in him.

Soon, Kim was done with his breakfast. He then said, “Jin, arrange everything for the evening. I don’t want any mess in it.”

Jin gritted his teeth in anger and just nodded.

Kim sighed and walked away.

“Hyung, what meeting is this actually?” Tae asked.

“Seon-ah aunt’s. She’s leaving next week, so it’s a farewell party,” Jin explained.

“Oh…” Tae hummed. “Tae… don’t worry about anything, hmm? I’ll handle everything,” Jin said.

“Nae… b-but I don’t know, hyung. Something is really off. This morning, Jungkook, he was way too pale. Did you notice his eyes? They were red. It’s like he cried. His face was so sad. I know he’s acting fine, but his eyes tell me, hyung. It’s really sad,” Tae said, his voice filled with concern.

“I’ll look into it. Don’t worry,” Jin said. Tae just nodded.

Meanwhile, with Jungkook

He went straight to a gaming center. Wearing his mask, sitting on his chair he started playing. Headphones on, no expression on his face, just fingers moving, eyes shifting back and forth. He looked focused on the game, but in reality, he was just trying his best to escape the fucking hell he was in right now.

He didn’t want to remember anything or overthink. He just wanted to be free. He didn’t want stress, cries, or pain, just rest, and nothing else.

Hours passed, and he stayed there, playing, playing, playing. Not caring about the faint headache forming in his head.

He was playing peacefully until someone sat beside him. He didn’t bother to look at who it was and continued playing.

“Hey, Jungkook!” It was Taehoon, one of Eunwoo’s friends.

Jungkook glanced toward the source of the voice. Taehoon was there with two other boys, and Eunwoo was also standing with them.

Jungkook didn’t smile, greet, or react. He just focused on the game.

“He is so cold, bro,” Taehoon said, sitting on the next chair.

“Yeah, such an emotionless guy, think he doesn’t have a voice or just thinking he is soooo rich and showing the attitude” the other boy commented.

Jungkook heard that. He paused for a moment.

Then he heard Eunwoo speak. “Can you all just shut up and play? I’m so bored. We came here to play, not to backbite,” Eunwoo snapped, not looking at anyone.

Everyone made annoyed faces and continued their games.

“An orphan protector for a bastard like him, who was the reason for his own mother’s death,” the boy nearby jungkook muttered. Jungkook heard it. So did Eunwoo.

Jungkook, who heard everything, stayed silent. His hands stopped moving as he stared at the game, unmoving. His eyes glistened with tears, but he held them back. How much blames and hates will he get?

Meanwhile, Eunwoo, who heard it too, grew angrier. He immediately stood up, walked to that boy, and landed the hardest punch he could. The boy yelped in pain. The others stared at them with widened eyes.

“What did you say?” Eunwoo asked.

“Nothing, I was just……. ahhh!” Another punch landed, and the boy cried out in pain.

“It doesn’t matter if I’m friends with you. You can’t say whatever you want, about me or anyone,” Eunwoo spat.

Meanwhile, Jungkook, who heard everything, took off his headphones. He grabbed his coat and phone and stood up. His eyes met Eunwoo’s, and Eunwoo saw the hurt in them.

“You know what? I don’t know why the fuck you do this, but I just fucking hate this,” Jungkook said quietly. His voice wasn’t angry, just calm and hurt. Eunwoo saw the tears, the sadness in his eyes.

With that, Jungkook walked away, fast.

Eunwoo watched him disappear and glared at the boy last time and then followed him.

When Eunwoo came outside, he saw Jungkook walking into an alley. It wasn’t scary, just a normal alley.

“Yah, Kim Jungkook!” Eunwoo yelled.

Jungkook stopped and turned around. He saw Eunwoo standing there.

“I also don’t like this!” Eunwoo said, walking closer.

“What?” Jungkook asked.

“The way you act. You’re not the same!” Eunwoo said.

Jungkook chuckled bitterly. “I don’t know why the fuck everyone says I’m not the same, that I changed. I really fucking don’t know. All I know is that I’m the fucking same every day,” Jungkook said.

“No, you’re not. You’re not the Jungkook I know, or the one everyone knows. Not that energetic, happy Jungkook. You just look numb and emotionless,” Eunwoo said.

Jungkook rolled his eyes. “I’m like that from the start,” he said. Maybe Eunwoo thought it was a lie, but it was the actual truth.

“And Mr. Park Eunwoo, I don’t fucking need you to protect me, or anyone. Don’t try to act like you care,” Jungkook spat.

“Acting? Mister… I have done nothing but care for you from the day we met. It’s true that I hated you for leaving us, but I still have a heart that knows the meaning of care and love,” Eunwoo said.

Jungkook scoffed. “You may have those, but I don’t fucking care about you or anyone. I don’t have that heart like you! So don’t waste your time acting like you care for me,” he said, and started walking away.

“When will you open up, Jungkook? I know you’re not saying this from your heart. You’re forced to. I know you care. You are breaking. You are hurt,” Eunwoo said from behind.

Jungkook heard every word. Everything was true. With eyes filled with hurt, guilt, and tears, he walked toward his bike.

Eunwoo, who had been holding back his tears, finally let them fall. “What happened to you?” he mumbled.

Meanwhile, Jungkook reached his bike. Tears fell freely now, his breathing heavy.

“He is a killer…” “The reason for his own mother’s death…”

The voices echoed in his head.

“No, I am not……. I’m sorry,” he mumbled, tears flowing.

Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his chest. He gasped and clutched it, whimpering. The pain was unbearable.

“Ahhh….” he whimpered as another wave hit. His breathing grew heavier, tears slipping from his tightly shut eyes.

His knees weakened, and dizziness washed over him.

When he about to fell, he felt someone supporting him. He looked up,it was Eunwoo. Eunwoo saw the pain etched on his face.

“Yah! What happened?” Eunwoo asked, but the words sounded muffled to Jungkook.

Jungkook clutched his chest again as another sharp pain tore through him.

“Yah… is it…. does it hurt?” Eunwoo asked, voice filled with nothing but worry and concern and panic for his friend… For his brother…

Jungkook didn’t reply. Eunwoo kept calling him but it only came muffled to Jungkook’s ears. He just stood there. After a minute filled with pain, he finally breathed out. The pain faded, though the tightness remained. The dizziness went away.

“Yah, Jungkook,” Eunwoo called.

Jungkook jerked his arm away. “Fucking leave me alone,” he mumbled lowly, taking his water bottle from his bag and drinking it in one go.

Meanwhile, Eunwoo just stood there, his eyes full of hurt and worry.

Jungkook sighed, took his bike, and rode away, without sparing Eunwoo a glance. Eunwoo’s tears didn’t stop.

Meanwhile, with Kim

He was in his car, sitting comfortably. He was looking at his tablet, then took his phone and called someone. It was Jungkook.

After a few rings, Jungkook picked up.

“Where are you?” Kim asked, his voice calm.

“Going home,” Jungkook replied from the other side, his voice cold.

“Come to the Dior store. I’ve already sent the location,” Kim said.

“For what?” Jungkook asked. “Just do it,” Kim said and hung up.

He shook his head and continued his work.

Soon, the driver parked the car at the Dior store. Kim stepped out, no hesitation, only domination. As he entered the store, everyone bowed in respect. Kim simply nodded.

The manager came running toward him. “Oh my God! Sir! Please… welcome,” the manager stuttered in pure excitement.

Korea’s, I mean, Asia’s biggest businessman was here now, right in front of their eyes.

“I came to buy a suit for my youngest son,” Kim said with a smile, a slightly proud one.

“Oh, that sounds wonderful. Didn’t your son come with you, sir?” the manager asked.

“He’s on the way,” Kim replied.

The manager nodded and called his staff, whispering the orders.

Soon, the door opened again. It was Jungkook.

Wearing his mask, bangs falling over his eyes, no emotion visible.

As he entered, all eyes turned to him. Customers, staff, everyone stared. It felt suffocating, like he had done something wrong. His eyes landed on Kim, who was sitting on the couch like a boss.

“Here he comes, my son,” Kim said, standing up.

Jungkook mentally rolled his eyes, his fists clenching.

“Oh, Kim Jungkook-ssi, the youngest Kim. Welcome, sir,” the manager and staff bowed respectfully, even though he was younger.

Jungkook bowed back and walked toward Kim.

“Remove your mask, Kook,” Kim said, patting his shoulder affectionately.

Jungkook clenched his jaw and removed the mask.

“Oh, he’s so handsome, just like you and your other sons, sir,” the manager said in amusement.

“He is,” Kim said, wrapping an arm around Jungkook.

Jungkook felt like a puppet, standing there and listening to everything.

“Let’s go, sir. Everything is ready,” the manager said.

Kim nodded and held Jungkook’s hand. Jungkook looked at it with anger and pulled away.

“Can you just be quiet for a while, Jungkook?” Kim whispered, his voice tight.

“Don’t touch me,” Jungkook spat.

Kim sighed. “Just obey. Forget about yesterday already. Want something more?” Kim asked.

Jungkook clenched his teeth.

“Drop this attitude and just obey,” Kim said, grabbing Jungkook’s hand again, taking control of him.

And Jungkook… he just went along with Kim.

Kim looked through the best suits for his son, while Jungkook stood there like a doll. Kim picked up a suit, placed it against Jungkook to check the fit, then did the same with another.

“You like this?” Kim asked. Voice soft and calm.

Jungkook looked at the suit, uninterested. “Just buy whatever you want,” he whispered calmly.

Kim sighed and picked another suit, holding it up against Jungkook. “This is really good, isn’t it?” Kim asked.

Jungkook looked at it. It was good, but he didn’t say anything, just nodded.

“It’s really perfect for him, sir. He’ll look like a prince in this. It’s so good,” the manager added.

Everyone watching only saw a loving father with his son, nothing else. Pure fatherly love.

But what they didn’t know was that this wasn’t something that happened every day. It was rare. And sometimes… even fake.

Kim moved toward the watches and picked up a diamond one.

“You like this?” Kim asked, voice gentle.

Jungkook nodded again.

“Alright then. Pack all of these. And make sure the suits for Jimin and Tae are packed as well,” Kim said.

“Yes, sir. Everything is already prepared, just as you asked,” the manager replied. Kim nodded.

In the car

Jungkook finally spoke. “Why did you buy all of these?”

“For the evening,” Kim said, still on the phone.

“What function is it, actually?” Jungkook asked.

“Your imo, Jeon Seonah, is going to the US next week. So it’s a farewell party,” Kim replied.

Jungkook heard the name. “Isn’t she your enemy?” he asked. “She is, but she doesn’t know that she’s my enemy,” Kim said still not looking from the phone.

“Then why are you going for this?” Jungkook asked.

“What do you think?” Kim asked, finally looking at Jungkook, his eyes dark.

Jungkook understood immediately. Kim wasn’t going for a farewell. Not for a function. But for his own purpose. For his own use.

Jungkook shook his head and looked out the window. Kim sighed and continued his work. The ride fell silent again.

With Jin

He was in his cabin, looking at his tablet. The door opened, revealing Yoongi.

“Hyung, you called?” Yoongi asked. “Sit down,” Jin said calmly.

Yoongi sensed the tension and sat beside Jin. “What is it, hyung?” Yoongi asked.

“It’s about… Suho hyung,” Jin said. Yoongi’s calm eyes widened with curiosity. “What?” he asked.

“Haein knows him. Remember the day I told you Jungkook called me as Suho hyung in his sleep, when hewas getting nightmares?” Jin asked.

Yoongi nodded slowly. “Jungkook and hyung were close. He was in the mafia. He was in Italy for a few years, but now he’s not there anymore, he’s somewhere else. Neither Haein nor Kook knows about it. Kim kept him somewhere else,” Jin said.

“What? But hyung… Suho hyung went to New Zealand, right?” Yoongi asked.

“That was a lie. Kim is playing a game… and we need to find everything,” Jin said, standing up and walking toward the giant window.

“Something is off… it’s really off. Not just Jungkook being involved in the mafia, but everything. I don’t know why Jungkook and Haein aren’t speaking, nor why Jungkook hates her, or Kim. And what’s the reason behind his restless nights filled with nightmares…” Jin said.

For all his questions, he needed answers. Yoongi just listened.

“When I asked Hobi about his nightmares, h-he said maybe it’s due to past trauma. I know Jungkook is traumatized by Aunt Hyesuk’s death… but…. but I’ve seen him. I’ve heard him calling for Kim and one time he called for suho hyung. He always says ‘hyung’ in his sleep. I’ve heard that. He’ll suddenly start to panic, like something is haunting him. Like he’s trapped… I want to know what happened to him,” Jin said, holding back his emotions.

Yoongi’s eyes glistened. Jin sat back down.

“And… Kim’s bond with Jungkook isn’t good. All he’s shown all this time is fake. I saw the real him this morning. I saw how polite Kook is with Kim, how Kim controls him just with his eyes. And… seeing their bond reminds me of ours. And…. and I feel scared that Kim might have done something terrible to him… or even…” Jin stopped, rubbing his temples.

“I just can’t think. After what he did to us… after what we’ve been through… I can’t trust him. I don’t know why the fuck I trusted Kim for the past twelve years. I’m such an idiot,” Jin said, angry at himself.

“Hyung… it’s not your fault. Don’t jump into conclusions. Don’t worry. Everything will be alright. Let’s dig into Kim’s information and do whatever we can, okay? Don’t blame yourself… please,” Yoongi said. Jin just sighed.

“And I don’t know why the fuck he’s volunteering himself to attend imo’s event. You know how much he hates her. I don’t know what his plan is, or why the fuck he’s involving Jungkook in it. Nor why the fuck he hates her,” Jin said.

“Maybe because she supported Lee Minjoon by saying Jungkook was the reason for Aunt’s death?” Yoongi asked. “I hope that’s the reason,” Jin said.

They stayed silent for a few minutes. Then Jin spoke.

“I want our team to look into Suho hyung’s details. I don’t care how much it costs or how difficult it gets. Put our best team on it. I want every piece of information within a week. And I want to know who the fuck the black sheep in our team is, the one leaking information to others. Understood?” Jin asked.

“Nae,” Yoongi replied.

The two eldest made a mental note to uncover everything. And Jin…. he was more determined than ever.

This time, he wouldn’t just protect Jungkook. He would expose every lie, drag every secret into the light, and make Kim pay for everything he had done. No matter what.
