Chapter 38
Jin stepped out of the bathroom, feeling refreshed, and his eyes immediately landed on Jungkook, who was sitting on the bed, scrolling through his phone absentmindedly. A small smile formed on Jin’s lips before he turned toward the full-length mirror..
He adjusted the cuffs of his crisp white dress shirt before reaching for his tie. Wrapping it around his neck with practiced ease, he secured the knot neatly and smoothed it out with a flick of his fingers. Jungkook, who had been aimlessly scrolling, found his eyes drifting toward Jin.
He watched as Jin picked up his tailored black suit jacket, slipping it on effortlessly. The way the fabric hugged his broad shoulders and fit him perfectly made him look nothing short of a runway model. Jin then buttoned the jacket with precision, rolling his shoulders slightly to ensure a comfortable fit.
Jungkook continued to observe him, fascinated by how effortlessly polished he looked. The finishing touches came next—Jin reached for a sleek silver watch, clasping it onto his wrist before running his fingers through his neatly styled hair, making sure every strand was in place. Finally, he picked up a bottle of cologne, spritzing a small amount onto his wrists before dabbing it onto his neck.
Just as he turned around, he met Jungkook’s gaze.
“Kook… umm, is this outfit okay, or should I change?” Jin asked, tilting his head slightly.
Jungkook, still mesmerized by how effortlessly breathtaking Jin looked, was momentarily speechless. He absently gave a thumbs-up. “You look good… I mean, more than good.”
Jin’s eyebrows lifted slightly in surprise. It wasn’t often that Jungkook gave compliments so freely. But instead of making a big deal out of it, Jin simply smiled, nodding in appreciation before turning back to the mirror to make a few last-minute adjustments.
BANG!
The door burst open, making both Jin and Jungkook flinch.
Jin turned swiftly, only to see Taehyung.
And, oh boy, did he look like an absolute mess.
Taehyung had managed to put on his shirt, but it wasn’t tucked in properly—one side was hanging lower than the other. His tie was an absolute disaster, hanging around his neck in a twisted, chaotic mess. His suit jacket? Still in his hand, draped over his arm like he had no idea what to do with it.
Jin stared at him, deadpan.
Jungkook blinked.
Taehyung, completely unbothered by his own appearance, pouted dramatically.
“Hyungiee… help me, please.” He whined like a child, dragging out the last word.
Jin sighed so deeply it looked like he aged ten years on the spot. “Taehyung,” he started, his voice laced with pure disbelief. “What in the world—why do you look like you were attacked by your own clothes?”
Jungkook chuckled under his breath, amused.
Jin shook his head and made his way toward Taehyung. “Come here, you absolute mess.”
He started by tucking in Taehyung’s shirt properly, making sure it wasn’t lopsided. Then, he grabbed the tie and loosened it completely before retying it neatly.
“Seriously, can’t you even wear a shirt properly?” Jin scolded, his hands moving skillfully. “And look at your tie! What were you even trying to do? Summon a demon with this knot?”
Taehyung just grinned sheepishly. “Why should I bother when I have a lovely, sweet hyungie like you?”
Jin shot him a glare but couldn’t stop the small chuckle that escaped. Once he was done with the tie, he grabbed Taehyung’s suit jacket and helped him put it on properly.
Jin then paused, eyes narrowing.
“…Did you even dry your hair properly?”
Taehyung blinked. “Huh?”
Jin exhaled sharply before grabbing a towel from the nearby dresser. “Unbelievable,” he muttered under his breath before rubbing the towel over Taehyung’s damp hair.
“Ow, ow, hyung! My precious curls—”
“Be quiet. You brought this upon yourself.”
Jungkook watched the scene unfold, something warm settling in his chest. It was chaotic, loud, and slightly ridiculous, but it was also… comforting. The way Jin fussed over Taehyung, the way Taehyung whined but let himself be taken care of—it was something so normal.
Something he had never experienced in a while.
He swallowed thickly, looking away before the ache in his chest could grow any stronger.
Meanwhile, Jungkook sat there, quietly watching them.
He saw how effortlessly natural their bond was—filled with teasing, laughter, care, and unspoken love. There wasn’t even a single gap in their connection. They were real brothers, bickering one second and taking care of each other the next.
And suddenly, memories flooded his mind.
He thought about Eunwoo. How they would bicker like kids over the smallest things. How he and Suho would gang up to tease Eunwoo, making him pout like a child. How Haein would fuss over him, dressing him up in different outfits while playfully scolding him for not taking care of himself.
How his Eomma would feed him with her own hands, brushing his hair gently as she whispered words of comfort.
How his Noona, Hyungie, and Eomma always cared for him in ways he never even realized back then.
And how Eunwoo—his best friend, his confidant—was always there, making sure Jungkook was okay.
God, he missed them so much.
His eyes glistened with unshed tears, the longing in his chest growing unbearable.
Taehyung noticed and smiled warmly. “How do I look, Kook?” he asked, breaking Jungkook out of his thoughts.
Jungkook blinked a few times before nodding and giving him a thumbs-up. “You look… so good.”
For the first time in a while, his answer wasn’t fake. It wasn’t forced. It was real.
Taehyung blushed slightly at the compliment and turned to Jin, who was still fixing his hair in the mirror. “Hyungie, you better be ready for proposals from boys too,” he said casually.
Jin paused, confused. “Huh?”
Taehyung smirked. “I mean, all the girls are already chasing after you. But if you keep dressing up this handsomely, even all the men will turn gay for you.”
Jungkook chuckled at that.
Jin rolled his eyes before turning to Taehyung, his expression playful yet dangerous. He cracked his knuckles and gestured for Taehyung to come closer. “Come here.”
Taehyung immediately sensed danger. “Ani! Uhh— I have work! Yeah, lots of important work—”
Before he could escape, Jin grabbed him and started tickling him mercilessly.
“AHHH! HYUNGIE—HAHAHAHA! STOP IT—!” Taehyung burst into laughter, trying to wriggle out of Jin’s grasp.
Jungkook watched them, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
Jin finally let go after a while, smirking. “Don’t you dare pull any nonsense again. If I hear you did another idiotic trend, I swear I will break your legs.”
Taehyung, still catching his breath, grinned. “I’ll… think about it.” He tapped his chin as if seriously considering it.
Jin sighed. “You brat.”
He took a step forward to smack Taehyung, but Taehyung immediately jumped onto the bed and sat beside Jungkook for protection.
Jin narrowed his eyes before shaking his head in defeat. “I’ll deal with you later, idiot.”
Just then, his phone rang.
With one last glance at the two, Jin sighed, grabbed his phone, and walked away to take the call.
Meanwhile, Jungkook turned to Taehyung, curiosity evident in his eyes.
“What trend?” he asked.
Taehyung scratched his head awkwardly. “Umm… hehe,” he chuckled nervously.
Jungkook raised an eyebrow. “What did you do?”
Taehyung leaned in and whispered, “I… uh… I made a fake account and started posting about marrying Jin-hyung.”
Jungkook blinked.
Taehyung grinned mischievously. “It was all about Jin-hyung. Like, trending hashtags, memes, edits—everything. And guess what? His fans actually went crazy with it. ‘Marry Me Jin’ became a whole movement.”
Jungkook smiled lightly, amused.
“But,” Taehyung sighed dramatically, “Yoongi-hyung ruined everything. Somehow, the trend changed from ‘Marry Me Jin’ to ‘Marry Me Yoongi.’” He shook his head. “That grumpy grandpa stole all the attention.”
Jungkook let out a genuine laugh. “That’s hilarious.”
“Right? And guess what? Even boys started saying it. And,” Taehyung sighed, “some even used my name.”
Jungkook snickered.
Taehyung continued, “Not just mine—Hobi-hyung’s, Namjoon-hyung’s, even Jimin’s!”
Jungkook laughed, shaking his head. “You’re seriously something else.”
Taehyung scratched his head sheepishly, grinning.
Just then, Jin’s voice interrupted them.
“What’s going on?” Jin asked suspiciously.
“Nothing,” Taehyung replied quickly.
Jin sighed, not buying it but letting it go. “Dad will be here in five minutes.”
Jungkook’s smile faded instantly.
Taehyung noticed his expression change. “So… are we going with him?” he asked Jin.
Jin nodded. “Yeah, everything is ready.”
Taehyung hummed in response but kept his eyes on Jungkook, who was now silent. His fingers fidgeted slightly, and his posture had stiffened.
Before Taehyung could ask anything, the sound of the door opening made all three of them look up.
It was Kim.
Jungkook gulped. His body tensed.
Jin and Taehyung bowed slightly out of respect. Jungkook followed, but his bow was stiff—formal, forced.
Kim didn’t acknowledge Jin or Taehyung much. He walked straight to Jungkook.
“Are you feeling better now, Kookie?” Kim asked, his voice dripping with fake concern.
Jungkook nodded hesitantly, swallowing the lump in his throat. He was disgusted. He clenched his fists in anger.
Kim reached out and placed his hand on Jungkook’s forehead.
Jungkook flinched badly.
Kim’s lips curled into a smile. “My baby… Appa came, hmm? You’ll be fine soon.”
Jungkook just nodded, not trusting his voice.
“Did you eat?” Kim asked.
Jungkook nodded again.
Meanwhile, Jin and Taehyung weren’t blind. They noticed everything. The way Jungkook’s body tensed. The way his hands trembled ever so slightly. The way his eyes held nothing but discomfort around Kim.
Kim finally turned to Jin. “Are you guys ready? Can we leave now?”
“Yes, Dad. Everything is ready,” Jin replied.
Kim hummed in approval. “Okay, Kookie. We’re leaving now. Stay here, hmm?”
Jungkook nodded, his fingers curling into fists under the table.
Kim smirked.
“I’ll message you later,” he added, his voice carrying a hidden meaning.
Jungkook understood exactly what he meant. He nodded quickly.
Kim sighed and stood up. He turned to Taehyung, wrapping an arm around his shoulder. “You look so good, Bear.”
Taehyung smiled. “Thanks, Appa.”
“Are you ready for this massive event?” Kim asked.
“Nae… I’m excited, but a little nervous too,” Taehyung admitted.
Kim chuckled. “Don’t worry. Just do whatever I say.”
Taehyung nodded, not noticing how Jungkook’s fists tightened at those words.
Kim glanced at Jungkook one last time. “Take care, Kookie. I’ll message you later.”
Jungkook forced a nod.
Kim left the room.
Jin let out a deep sigh and turned to Jungkook. “Kook, take care, okay? We’ll try to come back as soon as possible. If you need anything, just ask the maid or the nurse. And if you feel any uneasiness, call the nurse immediately.”
Jungkook nodded, keeping his voice low. “I’ll take care of myself.”
Jin didn’t seem convinced but hummed in response.
Taehyung, still watching Jungkook carefully, spoke up. “We’ll leave now, Kook.”
Jin ruffled Jungkook’s hair before walking toward the door. “Bye, Kookie.”
“Bye, Kookie~” Taehyung said with a bright smile.
Jungkook just nodded.
Finally, they left.
The room was silent again.
Jungkook sighed deeply and collapsed onto the bed.
He stared at the ceiling, the weight on his chest feeling heavier than before.
His voice was barely a whisper.
“Are you fine, Kook? …Appa came.”
He let out a bitter chuckle, closing his eyes.
“Why the fuck does he act like he cares?”
His chest ached. He never ever wanted fake care and love. He hated them to the core.
Jungkook turned onto his side and grabbed his phone, trying to distract himself.
Trying to forget the feeling of Kim’s hand on his forehead. He was disgusted
Trying to forget everything.
With Jin
Jin sat in the car, staring out the window, his fingers gripping his phone tightly. His heart felt unusually heavy.
“I hope this event goes well. Please, God, don’t let anything go wrong.” He prayed silently.
A strange sense of unease settled in his chest.
With Taehyung
Taehyung adjusted his cufflinks, a frown creasing his forehead.
“Why do I feel like something is off?” he thought, shifting uncomfortably in his seat.
There was no reason for him to feel this way, yet the anxiety gnawed at him like a warning he couldn’t quite understand.
With Kim
Kim Yoonseong smirked to himself, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction as he glanced at his reflection in the tinted window.
“This event is going to be on the headlines. The secret I’m going to reveal today will change everything. The Kims will be on top.”
But he knew.
He knew the consequences of what he was about to do.
And he didn’t care.
“The chaos that follows? That’s not my problem.”
With Yoongi
Yoongi leaned against the balcony railing of the venue, his arms crossed as he scanned the crowd below. His sharp eyes held an intensity that could cut through steel.
“If that bastard Kim Yoonseong does something reckless, I swear, I won’t let him walk away from it.”
His patience was thin. His instincts screamed at him—something wasn’t right.
And Yoongi always trusted his instincts.
With Jimin
Jimin fiddled with the hem of his suit jacket, glancing nervously at the stage being set up.
“Nothing will happen, right? Hyungs and Appa will handle everything… Just follow their lead, Jimin. Just follow their rules.”
But deep down, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this night may change everything.
With Hyunwoo
Hyunwoo tightened his grip on his glass, his knuckles turning white. His mind was racing.
“I don’t know what you’re planning, Hyung… but if this is about your sons—”
He exhaled sharply.
“Jin will go to any lengths to stop you.”
He could only hope things wouldn’t go that far.
With Namjoon and Hoseok
“Joonie… why am I getting such bad vibes?” Hoseok murmured, rubbing his hands together.
Namjoon sighed, shaking his head. “Yah, don’t overthink it, idiot. Everything will be fine.”
But he wasn’t convinced.
Hoseok noticed it—the way Namjoon’s fingers tapped anxiously against his knee, the way his jaw clenched.
Namjoon exhaled. “Still… I can’t shake this feeling. Something’s wrong.”
“If that bastard Kim does something stupid…” Hoseok muttered under his breath, his usual bright demeanor nowhere to be seen.
“Jin-hyung and Yoongi-hyung won’t leave him alive.”
Namjoon looked at him.
“Especially if it’s about the maknaes.”
With Haein
Haein tapped her fingers against the window of her car, frustrated. She was speaking to herself.
“Why the hell am I so nervous? Ugh… Calm down, Haein. Just do whatever they ask. Don’t get angry. Don’t react.”
She inhaled sharply.
“But if something fishy happens at this event, I swear I’ll—”
She felt a pair of eyes on her. Turning, she found the driver staring at her through the rearview mirror, as if she were some lunatic.
Her eyes narrowed.
“What are you looking at? Some kind of damn show happening here?” she snapped.
The driver gulped. “S-Sorry, ma’am.”
Haein huffed, crossing her arms.
“Let’s see what happens.”
