Chapter 70
The Next Day
It was 6 in the morning. Jungkook was asleep in his room, sleeping somewhat peacefully, until… The door opened revealing Kim, he took the jar poured a jar of cold water onto Jungkook’s face, making him flinch and wake up completely, gasping for air, he flinched really hard and sitting up suddenly. Standing in front of him was Kim.
Jungkook blinked through the water, his breath shaky as he recognized who it was. He stood up hesitantly.
“You dare to still be sleeping, huh? Do you want me to fix that attitude again?” Kim snapped coldly. “It’s already 6 in the damn morning, you piece of trash.”
He slapped Jungkook hard on the shoulder, making him wince and whimper slightly. He was still breathing heavily, startled.
“What a pathetic waste,” Kim sneered.
“Don’t you dare show that pitiful side to me. Do you know how fucking annoying you are? Why were you even born? Just a weak, useless excuse for a person.”
Jungkook didn’t respond. His breathing had slowed slightly, but the pain both emotional and physical, was still clear in his eyes. He stood there, numb.
“I’m going abroad for a few days,” Kim continued, voice sharp. “Don’t you dare screw things up here. And especially don’t show your pathetic side to them. I don’t want them finding out what a mess you really are. Work on that project seriously. If you mess it up, you’re done. And don’t get close to them. Don’t curse them with your presence, too.”
Jungkook kept his eyes down, trying to hide the hurt in them.
Suddenly, Kim kicked him in the knee. Jungkook stumbled and whimpered in pain. “Ahh…”
“Can’t even open your fucking mouth, you bastard?” Kim shouted furiously.
Jungkook flinched but stayed silent. His silence only seemed to fuel Kim’s rage. Kim slapped him repeatedly on the arms and shoulders. Jungkook whimpered in pain but still didn’t speak.
“Just stay pathetic all the time. You’re nothing but a burden,” Kim spat before storming out of the room.
As soon as Kim left, Jungkook shut the door quietly behind him. He slowly slid down to the floor, his back leaning against the door. He whimpered as he rolled up his pant leg.
There it was again, a bruise on his knee, with a burn scar just above it. Older scars surrounded it. He sighed and sat there in silence, gripping his hair in frustration.
He didn’t cry. He just sat there, numb, hurt, and alone.
Time skips
Jimin had gone home to send off Hyunwoo, who was also leaving today. Kim had already left. Jin was in the kitchen cooking. Taehyung entered and sat on the counter.
“Hyung, is Jungkook really okay?” he asked. It was the nth time he had asked that question.
“Tae, how many times do I have to tell you? He’s fine. He said he was just tired yesterday. Don’t worry, bear. He’s really fine,” Jin gently assured him though he himself didn’t know the right answer.
His brain was saying everything is fine, you are just overthinking but his heart was saying something was wrong.
Taehyung nodded. He helped Jin, who tried to cheer him up with dad jokes, and it worked.
Together, they arranged everything on the table. It was the weekend. Just then, they saw Jungkook coming downstairs. He walked over and sat down, he was thinking wearing his hoodie and baggy jeans.
“Oh, Jungkook, how are you feeling, Kook?” Taehyung asked first.
Jungkook looked at him and replied softly, “I’m fine. And sorry about yesterday. I think I made everyone worry.”
“Ani, ani, it’s not like that. It’s not your fault, it just happened. We’re just glad you’re okay, Kook. You don’t need to apologize,” Taehyung said quickly.
Jungkook stayed silent. Sensing the quiet, Jin quickly tried to lift the mood.
“Come on, let’s eat. I made all our favorites. Let’s dig in!” Jin said, plating the food.
They started eating. Jungkook, as usual, had that same sad look in his eyes. He was eating slowly, almost unwillingly. Kim’s words were still echoing in his mind, hurting him deeply still.
“Kook, what happened?” Jin asked, noticing the shift in him.
Jungkook looked up, a bit confused. “Huh?”
“You seem lost. Eat properly,” Taehyung said, concern lining his voice.
Jungkook simply nodded and continued eating in silence. Jin and Taehyung exchanged a glance, both equally confused. They could tell Jungkook was lost in thought, but chose not to push him further for now.
“I have a meeting in an hour, so I should get going. You both take care, hmm?” Jin said as he stood up, already dressed and ready to leave.
Taehyung nodded. Jungkook, who was now sitting on the sofa beside Taehyung, nodded too without a word.
Jin bid them goodbye and left.
Taehyung looked over at Jungkook, who was still sitting quietly, lost in his own world. “Jungkook-ah, come with me,” Taehyung said, flashing a bright smile in an attempt to lift his brother’s spirits.
Jungkook looked at him, confused. “Where?” he asked softly.
“Just come, na,” Taehyung replied, already standing up.
Jungkook gave a small nod and got to his feet. Taehyung reached out, held his hand gently, and led him away, dragging him playfully toward another room on the ground floor.
Jungkook looked around curiously. He still hadn’t explored the entire mansion, there were just too many rooms. Of course, it made sense; a multi-billionaire’s house was bound to be like this.
Taehyung dragged him into a space that looked like an inner garden. There was a tall tree growing right inside the house, beautifully showcased under a glass ceiling. It looked magical, like something out of a dream. Jungkook’s eyes widened in amazement, seeing it for the first time.
Taehyung noticed his expression and smiled. “There’s so much in this house you haven’t seen yet. Come, let’s go there,” he said, pointing toward the far end of the room.
That area was open at the top but covered with transparent glass, letting sunlight pour in. A sleek, luxurious piano stood in the corner, glowing softly under the light.
Taehyung turned to look at Jungkook, who was staring at everything with awe in his eyes. “You like this place?” he asked softly.
Jungkook gave a small nod.
“It’s my favorite spot. Especially when it rains,” Taehyung said, looking around fondly. Jungkook nodded again, his gaze slowly shifting to the piano. His hands balled into fists at his sides as if trying to suppress something deep inside.
Taehyung noticed where he was looking. “Let me play a note for you,” he offered with a warm smile and walked over to the piano, sitting gracefully on the bench.
Jungkook remained still, watching him silently. Taehyung began playing a soft, gentle tune, the melody echoing through the glass room like whispers of old memories.
“Come on, you can play too,” Taehyung said, glancing at Jungkook and patting the space beside him.
Jungkook hesitated. His brain screamed no, but his heart, it was begging to play it. He had buried that part of himself so deeply that it almost hurt to reach for it again. But now, standing here, in the warmest corner of the mansion, something inside him stirred.
He wanted to feel it again. That old dream. That lost passion.
“Just come, Kook,” Taehyung said again, this time smiling softly, patiently.
Jungkook took a deep breath, his chest rising slowly, and for the first time in years, he followed his heart.
He walked over and sat beside Taehyung. The piano sat before him like an old friend, familiar, yet distant.
“Here you go,” Taehyung said gently. “Play any notes you want. Even if you don’t know how, I’ll teach you, hmm?”
Jungkook didn’t reply. Slowly, with slightly trembling fingers, he reached out and touched the keys. It had been so long.
He gulped and pressed a single key.
A quiet note rang out.
Then another.
And then, before he knew it, his fingers began to move with the rhythm his heart remembered. The melody flowed out of him as if it had always been there, buried under the pain.
He was playing his favorite tune, the one he had composed himself.
His breath caught. The sound wrapped around him like a memory he couldn’t shake.
Suho had been the one who introduced him to music, who had taught him how to play every instrument. After Suho died… Jungkook had never touched an instrument again.
Until now.
Taehyung didn’t interrupt. He just sat there, listening, a gentle smile tugging at his lips, and eyes full of quiet understanding.
And Jungkook… played on.
Note after note, memory after memory. He wasn’t just playing music, he was showing all his emotions in it. He was trying his best to not tear up yet still his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Taehyung was completely mesmerized by the way Jungkook played. His fingers danced over the keys with ease, every note flowing effortlessly, filled with emotion and control. It wasn’t just good, it was breathtaking.
As the final note faded, Taehyung turned to him with wide, sparkling eyes. “Woahhhh, that was sooooo amazing, Kook! You’re like a pro! Seriously, you’re so good at this!”
He kept showering him with praise, unable to hold back his admiration.
Jungkook didn’t know why, but something inside him warmed. It was small, like a flicker, but it was there. He smiled, just a little. A real smile, soft and faint, but it reached his eyes.
Taehyung noticed and his heart almost melted.
After a few more minutes, Taehyung grabbed his hand again. “Come on, let’s go to the gaming room! Let’s play”
Without protest, Jungkook followed him. They reached the high-tech gaming space, filled with LED lights, consoles, and bean bags. Taehyung tossed him a controller, and they started playing, racing, laughing, teasing.
For the first time in days, Jungkook felt just a little lighter.
Soon, Jimin joined them, his cheerful energy filling the room instantly. “What’s this? You guys started without me?” he teased as he flopped down next to them.
The trio started playing together, voices overlapping with playful shouts and laughter. Jungkook zoned out sometimes, but then he’d laugh at a silly comment or whine dramatically when he lost. It felt… familiar.
It felt like being with Eunwoo again.
He didn’t say it aloud, but something inside him relaxed. Being with Taehyung and Jimin, it calmed him.
Their presence made his world feel less heavy, less sharp. They made the air feel easier to breathe, the silence less lonely.
For once, his surroundings felt like how they should feel. Warm. Safe. Home.
With Jin
Jin was in the basement meeting room of BTS headquarters, the quiet hum of monitors and shifting files filling the space. The rest of the core members were present, their expressions serious and focused.
“Hyung, there isn’t any information about her personal life,” Hoseok reported, glancing up from the tablet in his hands.
Jin simply nodded, his eyes sharp but calm. “She was forced into the mafia. Kim threatened her by using her family’s safety against her. Samchoon said she’s just like us, not harmful. So I don’t think we need to worry about her,” Jin said quietly.
The trio nodded in agreement, absorbing his words.
“I did find something in Black Swan,” Yoongi spoke up. “There are two underground spies. They’re all-rounders, experts in almost everything. But they’re hidden well. No one’s seen their faces or knows their real names.”
Jin furrowed his brows. “Who are they?”
Yoongi glanced down at his notes. “They joined in 2018. Their codenames are ‘JJK’ and ‘Vinto’ (Jungkook and Eunwoo),” he said, voice steady but tense. “They’re rumored to be the best spies and assassins Black Swan has ever had.”
Jin leaned back, his face hardening. “Start digging into them. Every detail. And Namjoon-ah, start digging into Kim. I don’t trust what he’s been doing behind my back.”
Namjoon gave a short nod. “Got it. By the way… did you talk to noona?” he asked cautiously.
Jin sighed deeply, rubbing his temples. “Haa… I really pissed her off yesterday. She must be angry. I tried calling her this morning, but she didn’t pick up. What should I do? Ahhhh, I’m so fucked up” he groaned, frustration lacing every word.
Meanwhile, the trio exchanged glances, and then, smirks. Their amusement was too obvious to miss.
Jin looked up just in time to catch them grinning. “Yah! Why are you all smiling like that, huh?” he asked, clearly confused.
“Nothing,” they said in perfect unison, standing up as if they hadn’t been caught plotting something in their heads.
“Let’s go, hyung. The meeting is ready,” Yoongi said, brushing past with a small smile.
Jin gave them all a suspicious look but got up anyway. “Then you two handle things here,” he said to Hoseok and Namjoon.
Hoseok saluted playfully, and Namjoon just nodded, already typing away.
Jin followed Yoongi out, shaking his head and muttering under his breath, “I swear they’re planning something…”
In Bangtan
They were seated in the sleek, glass-walled meeting room, waiting for Haein to arrive. Jin tapped his fingers nervously against the table, stealing glances at the empty seat beside him.
“Do you think she’s still mad at me?” he whispered to Yoongi.
Yoongi leaned in, barely turning his head. “Am I a magician or a mind reader?” he muttered back.
Jin sighed and leaned away, lips pressed into a thin line. The tension in his shoulders was obvious.
A few minutes later, the door opened, and Haein walked in, her heels clicking against the floor with an air of authority. She wore a suit, crisp, and professional, but, she looked as breathtaking asuasal.
She was speaking quietly to her assistant, flipping through some documents. Without acknowledging Jin, she sat down in the chair beside him, her cold presence a sharp contrast to his nervous energy.
Jin swallowed hard. He glanced at her, trying to catch her eye, but she kept her gaze firmly on the materials in front of her.
Haein turned to Yoongi. “Everything’s ready?” she asked, her voice cold, clipped, and effortlessly bossy.
“Nae, noona,” Yoongi replied, slightly stiff.
The meeting started.
Throughout, Jin kept trying to catch her attention, his eyes wandering toward her every few seconds, lips parting as if to speak, but she didn’t even glance in his direction. Every time he shifted toward her, she shifted slightly away.
It was like being invisible.
Eventually, the meeting wrapped up. Haein stood, stacking her files neatly. She turned to Yoongi and said, “Make sure to send the copies to the Chois and arrange the project date accordingly.”
Yoongi nodded. “Got it.”
Without another word, without looking back, she left the room.
Jin opened his mouth to say something, anything, but the door clicked shut behind her.
He let out a long, frustrated sigh and slumped into his chair. “Why the hell is she acting like I’m the one at fault?” he muttered, dragging a hand through his hair. He stomped his foot against the polished floor like a toddler throwing a tantrum.
Yoongi stared at him, unimpressed. “Then go talk to her,” he said flatly.
Jin didn’t wait for more. He shot up from his seat and made a beeline toward Haein’s cabin.
He didn’t bother knocking.
He flung the door open and stormed in. “Yah! Haein-ah, why the hell are you ignoring me, huh? Why are you acting like I’m the one who messed up?” he spoke out, voice laced with frustration and a touch of desperation.
Haein didn’t even glance up. She calmly continued reviewing the document in her hand.
Without missing a beat, she said, “Can’t you even knock before entering someone’s office, Mr. Kim Seokjin?”
Her voice was level, icy calm, unshaken.
She finally looked up at him, expression unreadable, her gaze cool and distant.
Jin stared at her, flustered and wide-eyed. “It doesn’t matter! Why are you ignoring me, huh?” he said, raising his voice slightly, his tone breaking with raw emotion.
“Can you lower your freaking voice, Jin? I clearly said not to raise your voice at me. I hate that,” Haein snapped, glaring at him with sharp, fiery eyes. “And yeah, I was ignoring you. Any issue with that, Mr. Kim Seokjin?” she added with a pointed smirk.
Jin scoffed in disbelief, running a hand through his hair. “Ahh wae? Don’t put all the blame on me, Haein. I was just shocked and surprised,.and frustrated that you were in Blac–”
He was cut off mid-sentence.
“Ahhh, I was just kidding,” she said with a shrug, but her gaze didn’t soften. “But still, I am angry. How dare you raise your damn voice at me, huh?” she said, her tone sharp and biting.
Jin gulped under her intense glare and looked away sheepishly. “Ah, sorry… sorry,” he mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. “And… about yesterday, I’m sorry for mistaking you as a spy from my dad. I got angry, really angry, and just jumped to conclusions. That’s it.”
His voice softened as he continued. “Samchoon told me everything… how my dad threatened your family. That’s why you left your dream behind and joined Bangtan, and Black Swan. I’m sorry for misunderstanding you, Haein-ah.”
Haein stared at him, her expression unreadable. Jin held her gaze nervously.
Then, she finally said, “I’m sorry too.”
Jin blinked. “Huh? Why?”
“For mistaking you… as your father,” she said quietly. “I thought you’d be like him. Cold. Ruthless. And I hated you for that.”
Jin didn’t say anything at first, just nodded slowly, absorbing her words.
“It must’ve been tough, right?” Haein asked gently.
“For what?” Jin asked, raising an eyebrow, confused.
“For taking care of your brothers all by yourself. With so much on your plate.”
Jin let out a breath, his lips curling into a tired smile. “Sometimes,” he admitted with a soft chuckle. “But tae and Jungkook is my world. Without them i don’t know how will I be… Also yoongi joonie and hobi and jiminie. They care about us a lot just like us. We are brothers for some reasons we should be there for each and we are doing it. And for Jungkook… We missed the chance to show our love and care and support when he was young, as Jungkook came back we will make sure to piyr all the love and dcare on him.” jin said while having a soft smile
Haein looked at him, and the anger in her eyes had long vanished. Instead, there was something softer, understanding, maybe even admiration. Haein felt happy hearing how he cares for his younger.
Jin blinked, a little taken aback by the sudden shift. Haein let out a chuckle at his expression.
“How’s Jungkook?” she asked, her tone sincere.
“He’s fine… Wait, why are you even asking?” Jin asked, narrowing his eyes playfully.
“Yahhh, what do you mean why?” she scoffed. “Yesterday, uncle said he fainted because of a panic attack. That’s why I asked.”
Jin laughed at her expression, amused by how defensive she was acting. “Uncle said? So you both met?”
“Ani!” she said quickly. “We didn’t. He called me. That’s it.”
Her tone was firm, but the light blush on her face made Jin chuckle again. “Aww, look at you all flustered,” he teased.
“Yah, shut up!” she muttered, but there was no heat behind it.
They both laughed, genuinely this time
and the tension in the room melted just a little more.
“You were the senior in Black Swan?” Jin asked curiously, tilting his head.
Haein looked at him and nodded. “Nae. I am.”
“Then… why did you leave Black Swan?” she asked, narrowing her eyes slightly. “And those men who came yesterday when you ordered, who were they? I know you’re not in the mafia anymore… but how?”
Jin gave a tight-lipped smile and leaned back slightly, eyes flicking away. “I left after… an incident. It was messy. And Tae, he kept asking me to step away from it all, so I did.”
Haein kept staring, waiting for more, but Jin smoothly dodged further explanation. “As for those men… let’s just say I have my own backup now.”
He ended it there. No details. No names. No deeper truth.
Haein just nodded slowly, though her eyes remained on him, soft but searching, like she was trying to read between the lines he wasn’t saying.
She stayed quiet, lips slightly parted. Then, as she glanced down at her file again, a thought crossed her mind.
“How will you react when you find out about Jungkook’s past… and oppa’s death, Jin?”
She looked back up at him, her expression unreadable.
“You already seem like you’re carrying too much,” she thought silently.
But she said nothing.
She just watched him, Kim Seokjin, the man everyone thought had it all, but whose eyes carried a weight far heavier than most would ever realize.
