Chapter 92

After a while.

All were changed to casual dress. They were at the dining table, it was like a feast. Jungkook was sitting between Yichan and Yoongi. He looked comfortable.

“Ahhh halmoni, you did all these?” Jin asked her, who was sitting beside him. “Nae, I did for my grandsons,” she said with a smile. All were touched by her love.

“But… you should not strain yourself this much, halmoni,” Hobi said. Chungha chuckled and then said, “There is no strain when I do it for you all,” Chungha said warmly.

All smiled at her. Jungkook just looked at her with a small little tiny smile.
“Ahhh halmoni, it’s soooo good,” Tae said while having a mouthful of food in his mouth, his face scrunching at the taste. Chungha smiled.

“Halmoni, you are the best,” Yoongi said, eating the food with pure happiness. Jungkook then finally took his spoon and took a bite, his eyes sparkled with the taste.

“Is it good? You like it?” Chungha asked. “Nae, it’s soo good,” Jungkook said with a small smile. They smiled at him.

They continued eating while chatting. Jungkook was also engaged. Jin, who was watching everyone, had a genuine smile. He looked at his brothers with his whole heart. He smiled seeing their smiles. When he looked at Jungkook’s smile, he felt relieved. “I hope we stay like this forever!” Jin thought.

“Here, Kook, eat,” Yichan said, putting some more meat on Jungkook’s bowl. Jungkook just gave a nod. He was already full, he couldn’t eat anymore. He looked at Yoongi with pleading eyes. Yoongi chuckled at him and whispered, “Just a little more.” Jungkook sighed and took another bite.

“Don’t play with food, Kook, come on, eat more,” Yichan said. Jungkook just gave a small hesitant nod, he took another bite.

Jin, who saw him, chuckled and asked, “You’re full?” Jungkook gave a quick nod, hoping he would save him. Jin and others chuckled at him, except for the grandparents.

“You just ate half a bowl and you are saying you are full?” Chungha asked, clearly surprised. Jungkook stared at her with doe eyes and just gave a small nod.

Before anyone could speak, Jin said, “Eat a little, hmm? Just a few more bites.” Jungkook then mumbled, “I am sooo full, hyung.” Jin sighed and said, “Okay, fine.” Jungkook smiled happily.

“But he should eat a lot, he barely ate,” Chungha said, worried. “Halmoni, he will eat. While coming we had so many snacks, and it’s dinner, so it’s fine. Don’t worry,” Tae, who was sitting beside Chungha, said. She nodded in understanding.

The weather was calm, the breeze gentle, and the waves rolled lazily onto the shore. A lone figure walked with headphones on, hands tucked into his pockets. It was Yoongi.

“Ahhh, what a peaceful bliss,” he mumbled, a rare bright smile tugging at his lips. Birds chirped above, the sea sparkled under the sun, and for once, there wasn’t a soul around to disturb him. Just him, his music, and his thoughts.

“I hope every day is like this. No work, no stress, no one dragging me out of bed. Just me and peace… ahhh, I love this peace, I hope it stays like this forever——“

“AHHHHH! SHIBALLL!” Yoongi shot up from the sand, water dripping down his face. He glared at the culprit. It wa shobi, near him was jimin who was giggling.

“Look at him, sleeping on the beach like a stray cat,” Hobi said nonchalantly, still holding the bucket he had used.

Yoongi blinked at him in disbelief. “Are you kidding me right now?!” “Hyunggg, you’re like a grandpa kitten, all lazy and grumpy,” Jimin laughed, nearly falling over from laughter.

“Ahhhh Waaaae! Jin hyungggggg!” Yoongi whined dramatically, dragging out his voice as if he had been wronged by the world itself.

Jin, sitting a little farther away with Jungkook, watching the sunset, didn’t even flinch. He let out a long sigh. “Here we go again,” he muttered, like this was his daily routine.

Beside him, Jungkook chuckled. “Sooo pity for you, hyung.” Jin gave a slow, dramatic nod. “Exactly. Raising these kids is harder than raising spem cows and pigs, even they listen to the owner.” Jungkook laughed.

Yoongi was still sulking, hair wet, while Jimin and Hobi were high-fiving each other like victorious pranksters

The next moment, they all heard a yell.

“Ahhhhh Hyunggggg! It’s stooooo chill! Ahhhh!” Hobi screeched dramatically after just dipping one toe into the water. Everyone burst out laughing.

“Come on guys, let’s play in the water!” Namjoon shouted, already splashing like an excited kid.

Jimin and Tae exchanged one mischievous look and then sprinted toward the waves, screaming at the top of their lungs. Jin glanced at Jungkook. “Let’s gooo, it’s going to be fun!” he said, his excitement contagious. Jungkook nodded eagerly, and together they dashed in, water spraying everywhere.

Last, of course, was Yoongi. He trudged over with the enthusiasm of a cat forced into a bath. The moment he reached the shoreline, Namjoon and Tae lifted him from both sides.

“AHHHHH! Don’t touch me! I swear I’ll sue!” Yoongi yelped, thrashing wildly as they dragged him straight and pushed into the water. His grumpy face had everyone to laugh.

And just like that, the fun exploded.

“Hyuuuung, ahhhh!” Jungkook whined helplessly while Jimin and Tae teamed up to splash him mercilessly. Water droplets sparkled in the air as Jungkook squealed, but the wide smile on his face said it all…. pure joy, no sadness, nothing weighing him down. He finally looked like himself.

Soon, it turned into a full-blown battle: hyung line versus maknae line. Sides were declared, war cries were shouted, and water was their weapon.

The maknaes teamed up on Hobi, of all people. “Noooo! Mercy! Save meeee!” he cried, arms flailing as they grabbed him and dunked him under. When he popped back up, his hair was plastered flat against his forehead, and everyone laughed so hard their stomachs hurt.

Meanwhile, Jin was yelling at Namjoon. “Stop splashing like that! You’re drowning me, not them!” But Namjoon just kept laughing, half-tripping over his own feet while trying to chase Jimin.

Even Yoongi, once he gave up resisting, started splashing weakly at Tae. “This is your punishment, brat!” he said, but Tae just giggled and splashed back harder, drenching him head to toe.

It was chaos, it was loud, and it was absolutely perfect.

And all were happy, they were at peace, the only thing on their face was big smile. On the other hand, Jungkook was finally feeling like a teenager again. All happy! Not streess, nothing just surrounded around by his hyungs and their warmth.

.

.

They were now sitting on the beach sand, having watermelon ice cream in their hands, watching the best sunset. As a family. All together.

“Woahhh, I wish it could be like this no university, no projects, no stress, no work, nothing! Ahhh this is the bestttt!” Jimin said. All chuckled at him.

Then Tae spoke, “I wish this never ends,” his voice calm and relaxed. All nodded.

Yoongi then said, “Then I would be free from Hyungie’s endless work he gives me, and those scoldings too,” he added nonchalantly, eating his ice cream. All laughed at him. Jin fake-glared at him but laughed too.

“Then I would be free from those headache cases!” Namjoon said. All chuckled.

Meanwhile, Jungkook, who was sitting beside Tae at the end, looked at the sunset while eating his ice cream. “I wish it stays like this every day, all peaceful,” Jungkook thought.

“Who wants to go for a race?” Jimin suddenly asked. Immediately, Jungkook and Tae raised their hands. That was it, the trio was on their running track.

“Be careful, guys!” Jin said, but they didn’t hear him. And just like that, they started the chase.

The hyung-line laughed seeing them.
“They look so happy,” Jin said. “Hmm, enthusiastic kids,” Hobi added, all nodding with small smiles.

“Jungkook had bright smiles today, right?” Yoongi asked. All nodded.

Jin looked at Jungkook, who was giggling and running. “He was so happy, he wasn’t stressed,” Jin said, smiling softly. “He was comfortable,” Namjoon added.

All nodded in agreement.

“I think he is slowly opening up,” Hobi said. Jin nodded. “I hope he shares all his problems with me and stays happy like this always.”

“He will, don’t worry hyung. He has us, and especially you,” Namjoon said. The other two also nodded. Jin sighed softly and nodded again.

“Ahhhh hyungieee, this is not fair!” Jungkook whined as Tae flopped down beside him, panting and sweaty.

“Ahhh, I’m tired, dude,” Tae said, wiping his face.

“But you’re the chaser now!” Jungkook whined again, making everyone chuckle at him.

“Yah, you loser, gave up already?” Jimin asked, panting as well. Tae fake-glared at him.

The hyung-line just shook their heads while Tae huffed dramatically. “Players gonna play and losers gonna lose,” he declared, then suddenly jumped up and started chasing again.

Jimin and Jungkook burst into laughter and scrambled up, running as Tae chased after them. Tae went straight for Jungkook, finally catching him.

Jungkook laughed heartfully when Tae grabbed him, the two collapsing onto the sand, breathless. “Got you!” Tae said, laughing while trying to catch his breath.

“Nae, nae… y-you caught me,” Jungkook admitted between panting and giggling, his big smile lighting up his face.

“Look at them! All drained out,” Hobi said, chuckling at the maknaes. All laughed softly. “They’re gonna be so tired tonight for sure,” Namjoon said, shaking his head with a smile.

They were back at the house, all freshened up. Jin, Yoongi, and Chungha were in the backyard cooking food. Night had already fallen. Hobi, Namjoon, and Jimin were crowded around the console, too focused on their game to notice anything else. Yichan and Tae were arranging the dinner table. Jungkook was in his room.

Meanwhile With Jungkook

He rubbed the towel against his damp hair, letting out a soft sigh. “Ahhh… I’m tired,” he mumbled, dropping onto the bed. His gaze fixed on the ceiling above him, unmoving.

For a long moment, he just lay there, staring blankly. The laughter from outside faintly reached his ears. He whispered to himself, “It was peaceful… after a long time.”

He laid for some moments and sat up, but a sharp wave of pain surged through his chest. His breath hitched, his body curling as his hand clutched at his heart. “Ahhh…” he whimpered, eyes squeezing shut. It was sharp like someone was driving a knife straight through him.

Seconds crawled by before the pain eased. Jungkook was breathing heavily, sweat forming on his brow. A single tear slipped down his cheek. He quickly wiped it away with the back of his hand, sighing shakily.

“What was that…?” he muttered under his breath. His voice was weak, and shook by the pain.

Just then, his phone rang. The sudden sound startled him. He looked at the screen it was Hyunwoo. Jungkook hesitated, thumb hovering, then finally picked up.

“Nae?” he answered, forcing his voice to sound normal.

“What are you doing, Kook?” Hyunwoo’s voice was soft, calm.

“Just… simply,” Jungkook replied, still ruffling his hair with the towel.

“Hmm. Do you like it there?” Hyunwoo asked. Jungkook only hummed quietly in response.

“Are you taking your medicines on time?” Hyunwoo asked”Nae, I’m taking them,” Jungkook said quickly.

“Good… By the way, we’re coming next week,” Hyunwoo said. “Oh… Kim too?” Jungkook asked, biting his lower lip.

“Hmm, yeah.” Hyunwoo said. Jungkook’s gaze dropped to the floor. “Okay,” he said softly, almost in a whisper.

There was silence for a moment. Then Hyunwoo’s voice, filled with concern: “Hmm… Are you having any uneasiness? Anything at all?”

“Ani… I’m doing good,” Jungkook answered, though his chest still throbbed faintly.

“Okay then. Take care and be careful, hmm? I’ll call you tomorrow. Don’t skip meals.” Jungkook only hummed, and the call ended.

He sat there, motionless, the silence pressing heavy around him. His phone slipped from his hand onto the bed. For a while, he just sat still, shoulders heavy, staring at nothing.

Finally, with a deep sigh, he forced himself to stand. His steps were slow as he left the room. At the far end of the hall, a door caught his eyes, one he hadn’t really noticed before. He paused, staring at it, before slowly walking toward it.

Jungkook hesitated, his hand trembling slightly as it rested on the handle. Slowly, carefully, he twisted it. The door creaked open. It wasn’t a guest room.

He stepped inside.

The room was clean, too clean. Everything was neatly arranged, untouched, as though no one had lived there for years. The air carried a faint stillness, like it was frozen in time.

“Whose room is this…?” Jungkook mumbled under his breath, his voice barely above a whisper.

He walked further in, leaving the door only half-shut behind him. His eyes scanned the walls and shelves. And then he saw them, photographs. It was many. Photos of Yoona.

Jungkook froze, his lips parting slightly. It hit him all at once. This was Yoona’s room.

He took a slow step forward, his gaze falling onto the desk. A photo frame sat there. He picked it up carefully, as though it might shatter in his hands.

It was a family picture. Their family. The Kim family.

Jungkook stared at it, his breath caught in his chest. He was in it, small, maybe six years old. His tiny hands clutched the corner of his father’s suit. Kim stood tall holding him with a bright smile, Tae and Jin were on either side, and Yoona… Yoona was smiling so brightly, her warmth almost spilling out of the frame.

They all looked so happy. Whole. Together.

Jungkook’s eyes softened. His small self in the photo wore a hesitant smile, but it was there, pure and real. He didn’t know why, but staring at it now, he felt something stir inside him. Something warm.

He carefully placed the frame back down and looked around again. More photos. All of Yoona, her smile, her wedding portrait, candid moments with Jin, Tae, himself, and Kim. She was everywhere.

The quiet broke suddenly with the soft sound of the door. Jungkook flinched, turning. It was Tae.

“Hey… K-Kook? What are you doing here?” Tae’s voice was hesitant as he stepped into the room.

“Ahh… just looking,” Jungkook murmured, his eyes still fixed on the pictures. “Is this Yoona-ssi’s room?”

“Nae, it is,” Tae replied softly, walking closer. His gaze swept over the photos, and a small, fond smile tugged at his lips.

“She looks pretty,” Jungkook said quietly. Tae looked at him, then back at the photos. “Hmm… she is. She was so beautiful. And kind.” His voice carried warmth and calm.

Jungkook turned his eyes toward Tae, watching the way he looked at the pictures, with softness, with memory.

Then Tae suddenly added, “Just like you,” and gently ruffled Jungkook’s hair.

Jungkook blinked at him, confused. “Why?”

Tae picked up the family photo frame, his fingers brushing over the glass as he pointed at Yoona. “Look… her eyes and yours. The same doe, bunny-like. Her smile and yours too. You resemble her so much.” His voice was steady but filled with affection.

Jungkook’s gaze shifted back to the picture. He stared at it silently, his throat tightening. He didn’t say anything, just let the words sink in.

After a moment, Tae set the frame down gently and patted Jungkook’s shoulder. “Okay… let’s go, hmm? The food’s ready.”

Jungkook nodded faintly. Tae reached out and held his hand, guiding him toward the door.

Just before stepping out, Jungkook turned his head, his eyes lingering on the photo one last time. That bright smile, the smile that mirrored his own, seemed to stay with him even as the door closed.

All were gathered in the backyard when Tae and Jungkook finally came.

“Here they are,” Jin said with a smile.

Jungkook smiled faintly and sat beside Jimin and Chungha. Tae took a seat next to Jin.

“Why late?” Jin asked. “He was in eomma’s room,” Tae whispered softly.

Jin’s eyes widened just a little. “Did he? Anything else happen?” he asked quietly.

Tae shook his head. “He just looked at the pictures… he said eomma looked pretty,” Tae said with a small smile.

Jin’s heart softened. He nodded and looked over at Jungkook, who was quietly eating while listening to Jimin chatter, his lips curved into a gentle smile. Jin reached out, patted Tae’s shoulder, and gestured for him to eat. Tae nodded and began eating, the moment settling into warmth.

After dinner, everyone retreated to their rooms. The elders and Jungkook shared one, while Hobi and Tae were in another, and Jimin with Namjoon in a other room..

Jungkook sat on the bed, his phone in hand, scrolling. His eyes searched for her, Yoona.

The page filled with her pictures and videos. His breath slowed as he stared at one photo, Yoona with him and Kim at a function, their family smiling together. His fingers trembled slightly as he hesitated, then tapped on a video.

It was an old program recording. The screen lit up with her smile, her voice echoing faintly. Jungkook’s chest tightened. Only a few seconds had passed when he suddenly heard the door open. Startled, he quickly paused the video.

It was Jin. He carried a glass of milk in his hand. “Hey, Kook. Here,” Jin said softly, handing it to him.

Jungkook nodded quickly and put his phone aside. But Jin’s sharp eyes caught a glimpse of the screen before it dimmed it had been Yoona’s picture. He didn’t say anything. Instead, he just watched quietly as Jungkook sipped the milk.

“You felt good here?” Jin asked gently. Jungkook nodded, his voice quiet but sincere. “It was… so good. And peaceful.”

Jin’s lips curved into a soft smile. He reached out, brushing Jungkook’s hair gently before pulling back.

Just then, Yoongi came out of the bathroom and collapsed onto the bed with a groan. “Ahhh, I’m tired,” he muttered.

“Yahh, dry your hair, pabo,” Jin scolded lightly, though his voice carried warmth.

Yoongi sighed, rolling his eyes, but obediently sat up and began drying his hair.

“Here, your medicines.” Jin handed Jungkook the pills. Jungkook nodded and took them with his milk. When he finished, he set the cup gently on the table.

“Okay, so, let’s sleep. We’re leaving tomorrow!” Jin said. Jungkook nodded and lay down.

He took the center of the bed; Jin was to his right and Yoongi to his left. Jin turned off the bright light; only the soft, warm glow of the lamp remained.

Yoongi scrolled through documents on his phone. Jungkook closed his eyes and slowly drifted toward sleep. Jin kept his hand resting lightly on Jungkook’s shoulder, patting him until his breathing evened out. After a while Jungkook was asleep. Jin kept watching him, attentive and quiet.

“He slept?” Yoongi asked, lowering his phone. Jin nodded.

“He must be exhausted after all the running and chasing,” Yoongi said with a small chuckle. Jin smiled softly in the lamplight. “He was such an enthusiastic little bunny today,” Jin added. Yoongi hummed agreement.

“He looked so happy today, right, hyung?” Yoongi asked again. Jin’s eyes stayed on Jungkook’s sleeping face. “It’s been a long time since I saw him like this,” he said, voice threaded with something like relief and grief at once. Yoongi simply listened.

Suddenly Jin spoke again, quieter. “He was looking into eomma’s information.” Yoongi turned to him, confused. “Huh?”

“He looked at eomma’s pictures,” Jin said. “Photos and videos. When I came in, he was watching them… like he wanted to know her.” Jin’s fingers tightened unconsciously on the blanket as he looked at Jungkook’s peaceful face.

“I’m worried about his health, what if something happens to him?” Jin admitted, the worry plain in his voice. “His heart is weak. If he pushes himself too far, medicine might not be enough. We might have to consider surgery. I don’t want that…. I want him to live like everyone else: normal, healthy, happy.” Jin’s words came out low, a promise and a plea all at once. Yoongi listened without interrupting.

The room fell into the weight of that silence, two men awake in the dark, each turning the same heavy thoughts over in their heads. Jin watched Jungkook breathing softly, the rise and fall of his chest a fragile rhythm. Yoongi stared up at the ceiling, slow and flat shadows moving across it.

“What about Kim?” Yoongi asked finally, voice rough with something like anger softened by exhaustion. “He’s coming next week.”

Jin’s jaw clenched. He turned his face to the ceiling as if the pale light could steel him. “I’ll make him answer for what he did. I’ll make sure he regrets forcing Jungkook into that hell,” Jin said, teeth grit audible in the quiet. His hand smoothed across his forehead, an attempt to push down the fury and fear. Yoongi said nothing; the silence was its own agreement.

They lay there together, two figures in the lamplight, each lost in the same heavy worry and fierce, protective love. Outside, the house breathed softly; inside, the world narrowed to the steady warmth of Jungkook’s sleep and the guarded hope that he could keep him safe.
