Chapter 93

It was dark. Silent. Empty.

A small boy walked alone, his tiny footsteps echoing against the cold ground. Each step was slow, hesitant, like he was afraid of what might be waiting ahead. He was only eight years old. It was Jungkook.

His face was pale, his eyes wide and trembling with fear. Tears streaked down his cheeks as he whispered through broken sobs, “Yoona… Yoona…”

“Jungkook, no!” a woman screamed.

Jungkook flinched, his whole body jerking at the sound., “Appaaaa!….. E-eomma! Appa, no! Eommaaa!” His cries tore through the darkness, raw and desperate.

“Jungkook, run!” Yoona’s voice echoed faintly, fading like smoke in the wind.

Jungkook was sleeping but not in peace, his body drenched in sweat. His body trembled as he turned restlessly. The nightmare clung to him like chains. His lips moved, mumbling incoherently.

“Jungkook… why? Why did you kill me?” it was Suho’s voice cold, haunting, cut through the darkness. Jungkook spun around, eyes wide, but no one was there.

“Eomma… Noona… Hyungie… Eun?” His voice cracked, calling into the emptiness. No one answered.

“Appa… Appa, I’m scared… Appa!” His words came in trembling bursts, his voice breaking.

Then, A sharp gunshot. He turned. Suho stood there, covered in blood.

“Hyungie…” Jungkook whispered, tears spilling freely. “Appa… Appa, where are you?!” He screamed again and again, voice hoarse and trembling.

More gunshots. One after another.

Jungkook flinched with each one, his small frame shaking violently as the echoes swallowed him whole.

“APPA!” Jungkook jolted upright, his body trembled with terror. His face was pale, his eyes wide, and tears poured down his cheeks. He stared at his trembling hands. It was covered with blood.

His breath hitched. He shook his head trying to come out of his hallucinations. And just like that… the blood was gone.

The voices still lingered. Whispering. Screaming. Crying. Shouting. Yelling. A chaos at his mind.

Jungkook clamped his hands over his ears, curling in on himself. “Don’t… please…” he whispered, his voice cracking. But the voices only grew louder, heavier, more unbearable.

“No…… stop…. stop…..” he mumbled through clenched teeth, tears streaming from his shut eyes. he was trembling alot.

Seconds stretched like an eternity in hell. And then, slowly, the voices began to fade.

Still, Jungkook kept his palms pressed tight to his ears. He was trembling, barely breathing. His eyes fluttered open slowly. His hands dropped, shaking as they lowered. His chest heaved with heavy, ragged breaths.

The room was quiet. Just his gasps and the low hum of the air conditioner.

He looked around, it was his room. With unsteady hands, Jungkook reached for the bottle on his nightstand. He gulped it down in desperate swallows, the cool liquid sliding down his dry throat. Then his eyes shifted to the drawer.

He opened the last drawer slowly. His trembling fingers reached under the stack of books and pulled out a tiny bottle hidden beneath.

He stared at it through blurry, tear-stained eyes. The bottle shook in his grip. He hesitated, his breath hitching, before unscrewing the cap.

It was the same pills. The same pills he’d been warned not to touch. The same pills hyunwoo begged him to leave behind. The same pills he promised he’d never use again.

He took a pill again. Swallowed it down with the water.

He looked at the time it was 12:38 a.m. Only an hour since he’d gone to bed… and the nightmare had dragged him back into its darkness once more. And yet no one was around him to comfort him. He was again stuck alone in his darkness.

Jungkook lay down again, staring blankly at the ceiling. The tears had stopped, leaving faint stains on his cheeks. His breathing slowly steadied, though his chest still ached with exhaustion.

“Why… why am I like this?” he whispered to the quiet room. There was no answer, only the low hum of the air conditioner and the sound of his own heartbeat.

He turned to the side, grabbed his phone, and took his headphones with trembling fingers. He put them on, he pressed play.

Music filled his ears. Music is the only thing that makes him calm. Music was the only thing that calmed him. The only things that was with him all this time.

He exhaled softly. The panic slowly eased. His eyelids grew heavy, the pills helped him.

Still wearing his headphones, Jungkook drifted back into sleep.

Meanwhile, with Jin

Jin sat in his study, surrounded by scattered documents and the soft hum of his desk lamp. He wore a plain shirt and loose night pants, his reading glasses perched low on his nose as he flipped through yet another file.

It was past 1 a.m., and he was still working.

“Ahhh, there’s so much to do,” he sighed, shaking his head as he leaned back in his chair.

He heard the rain pouring. “It’s raining now,” he mumbled absently, eyes still on the papers.

Then came the thunder. Jin froze. His mind instantly went to Jungkook.

Without a second thought, he pushed back his chair and hurried to Jungkook’s room.

He opened Jungkook’s door carefully. Inside, the room was dim, bathed in the soft glow of the nightlight. Jungkook was asleep, headphones still over his ears.

Jin sighed in relief and walked closer. He crouched beside the bed, studying Jungkook’s sleeping face. Peaceful, but faint traces of dried tears were on his cheeks.

Did he cry? Jin wondered silently. “And why is he sleeping with his headphones on?”

He brushed a gentle hand through Jungkook’s hair, smoothing it back.
“Sleep well, kook,” he whispered under his breath.

A loud crack of thunder shook the room. Jungkook flinched in his sleep, his body tensing. Jin immediately hushed him, softly patting his shoulder. He adjusted the headphones back in place and tucked the duvet securely around him.

He stayed there for a moment, watching Jungkook, then stood and walked toward the large window. Pulling the curtains aside, he stared out at the rain.

The garden glistened under the storm, and for a moment he was lost in thought, until movement caught his eye.

His expression hardened instantly. His posture straightened, sharp and alert.
Through the rain, he could see the rivals. He was sure it was not his guards .

His jaw clenched. He reached for his phone and dialed quickly. “Check the garden,” he ordered in a low, steady voice. “Rivals. Keep it quiet. No scene.”

He hung up, then immediately called another number. After a few rings, a groggy voice answered, “Yeoboseyo?”

“Tae, come to Jungkook’s room. Now.” There was a pause, then a short hum before the line went dead. Moments later, Taehyung appeared at the door, hair messy, pajamas rumpled, but his eyes now sharp with awareness.

“What happened?” Tae asked, his voice louder than intended. Jin raised a finger to his lips and gestured for silence.

Jin walked up to Taehyung and spoke in a low, firm voice. “Take care of him. Don’t come out, no matter what. Not until I return. The rivals are here. Don’t worry, okay?”

Tae’s eyes widened in shock. “What? Hyung… rivals? How are they——-“

Jin quickly hushed him, placing a finger to his lips. His tone softened, but his eyes stayed sharp. “Don’t worry. I’ll be back in a few minutes, okay?”

With that, Jin turned and left. Tae gritted his teeth, anger flashing in his eyes.
“Ahhh, shiball…” he muttered under his breath, locking the door tight.

He turned back toward Jungkook, crouching beside the bed. His gaze softened seeing his face, he noticed the faint trails of dried tears on Jungkook’s cheeks. “Did you cry again? Another nightmare?” Tae thought silently, brushing Jungkook’s hair back with gentle fingers. “I should have been with you!”

He sat there quietly, watching Jungkook’s sleeping face. The rain beat against the windows; thunder cracked again, shaking the walls. Jungkook flinched in his sleep, body tensing. Tae instinctively placed a hand on his chest, patting softly in comfort.

But his mind wasn’t calm. He was worried, about Jin. About what was happening outside. He wanted to go. To help. But he couldn’t. Not when Jungkook needed him here.

Meanwhile, with Jin

He went to his room and grabbed his gun. “You guys are fucking dead today,” Jin muttered, gritting his teeth, then stepped out into the night.

In the backyard, figures crouched behind the bushes. Pathetic, he thought. They don’t even know how to hide. He moved to a pillar, took careful aim, and fired, two precise shots into knees and calves, meant to stop, not kill. The men collapsed with pained cries, clutching their wounded legs as blood soaked into the grass.

Jin took out his phone. “Everything clear?” “Yes, sir. They ran off, no one left,” the guard replied. Jin hummed, ending the call.

He walked to the rivals, rain slashing down on them. Blood poured from ragged wounds. Jin crouched and looked them in the face. “Who the hell are you guys?” he asked, voice dangerously cold.

They made no reply. Jin kicked one of them in the wound, then grabbed the man by the collar and hauled him upright. “You want me to hand you to JH(hobi)?” he asked coldly, leaning in. “He’ll rip you apart. He’ll torture you to the core. You want that?” His hand tightened on the man’s neck.

“I… I can’t tell you,” the man gasped, breath shallow and ragged.

Jin slammed the butt of the gun against his forehead, hard. “Tell me who sent you and what they want. Tell me now, if you don’t want the cruelest way to die.”

The rival howled in pain, then broke. “Okay, okay… I’ll tell. I’ll tell you.” He coughed, blood on his lip. “L-Lee Minjoon. He sent us. To… to bring your brother Jungkook to him.”

Jin’s jaw clenched so hard his knuckles whitened. He shoved the man away and stood, rain soaking through his clothes. He turned to his guards, eyes blazing. “Is this how you guard the place?” he growled.

The men avoided his stare, ashamed and drenched. Jin’s voice cut cold. “Clear the area. Take one to the base and send the other to Minjoon dead”

The guards moved without another word. Jin watched them trying to move, rain washing the blood into the lawn, then walked back to the house, mind already racing with the name he’d been given.

Meanwhile, with Tae

Tae was still restless. Worry gnawed at him. He walked over to the big window and carefully pulled the curtain aside just a little. Through the rain, he saw Jin outside, talking to the captured rivals. Tae sighed in relief, at least Jin was safe.

A loud crack of thunder tore through the sky. Tae flinched hard. He quickly turned toward the bed, Jungkook had jolted awake, breathing fast and shallow. Tears welled up in his eyes as panic took over.

“Hey, hey, Kook, it’s okay! It’s okay, I’m here!” Tae rushed to his side, his voice gentle but urgent. Jungkook looked up at him, trembling, tears spilling freely as he pulled off his headphones.

“It’s okay, Kook… it’s just thunder. I’m here, hmm?” Tae said softly, patting his chest to calm him. Jungkook didn’t respond, his breath came in short, uneven gasps, his eyes darting around in confusion at Tae’s sudden presence.

Another thunderclap boomed through the room. Jungkook flinched violently, shutting his eyes tight and covering his ears. Tears streamed down his face.

“Hey, hey, it’s fine, bun. I’m here, hyungie’s here,” Tae murmured, holding him close. “It’s just thunder, it’ll go away soon, okay? You’re safe. I’m here.” His voice was soft, but his eyes betrayed his worry.

Jungkook was trembling uncontrollably when the door suddenly opened. Jin stepped in, completely drenched, rainwater dripping from his hair and clothes. Tae looked up at him, still holding Jungkook.

“What happened?” Jin asked, voice low but sharp with concern. “Thunder,” Tae mouthed silently.

Jin walked over quickly. He took the earphones from the bed and gestured for Tae to move aside. Tae did, watching as Jin knelt beside Jungkook.

“Hey, Kook,” Jin said softly, voice calm and steady. “I’m here. Nothing’s happening. You’re fine, okay? Don’t be scared, it’s just thunder.”

Jungkook’s breathing slowed a little, but his vision was still hazy. Jin’s voice came to him muffled, distant. And suddenly, he didn’t see Jin anymore.

He saw Suho. “Hyungie…” Jungkook whispered, tears spilling down his cheeks.

“Nae, nae, I’m here, Kook,” Jin said gently, not realizing what Jungkook was seeing.

Jungkook slowly lowered his hands from his ears, his eyes dazed and glassy. He stared at Jin or rather, at the person he thought he saw.

“Suho hyungie… mianhae…” he mumbled lowly, voice cracking as tears streamed down his face. And Jin heard it, his soft eyes immediately turned alarmed and confused.
